29 avril : La production musicale Hair est présentée pour la première fois à Broadway; Elle tiendra l'affiche à 1 742 reprises jusqu'au premier juillet 1972. On y retrouve notamment les chansons Aquarius, Let The Sunshine In et Good Morning Starshine.
avril : Simon and Gartfunkel, Bookends. Les chansons parlent du désespoir et de l’anxiété des gens, de la vie américaine à la fin des années 60. L’album qui est plus ou moins conceptuel contient l’un des plus gros succès du duo, “Mrs Robinson”, une composition de Paul Simon pour le film Le Lauréat, (en anglais, The Graduate).
Mai 1968 : Renaud écrit sa première chanson dans la Sorbonne occupé.

26 octobre : Premier concert de Frank Zappa à Paris sur la scène de l'Olympia.
22 novembre : Sortie de l'Album Blanc des Beatles
5 décembre : Sortie de Beggars Banquet des Rolling Stones.
décembre : Serge Gainsbourg, 69 Année érotique.

Robert Charlebois présente à Montréal le spectacle L'Osstidcho avec Louise Forestier, Yvon Deschamps et Mouffe, mêlant musique, comédie et monologues. Par la suite, avec Louise Forestier, il enregistre un disque qui révolutionne la musique populaire québécoise en mariant des expressions québécoises avec la musique rock psychédélique américaine. Sa chanson Lindbergh est en tête des palmarès francophones, tant au Québec qu'en France.
