Paul of Tarsus, also known as Saint Paul the Apostle, (CE 9–67) was a Christian writer and teacher. He wrote the Pauline Epistles in the New Testament. It is believed that he wrote 13 books of the Bible, all of which are letters to churches and Christians, instructing them on the basis of Christianity. His name was originally known as Saul. He grew up learning Jewish law, and when the Christian movement began he opposed (went against) it vigorously (strongly). He leaded the arrests and slaughtering (killing) of Christians in Israel and the surrounding area. His name was changed to Paul when he had a vision in which Jesus Christ spoke to him and told Paul to follow him. Paul was blinded by the vision and regained his site when God sent Barnabus to heal him. After this he was baptised as a follower (believer) of Christ, and dedicated the rest of his life (used his life willingly) in service to Jesus.
Paul was killed by the Emperor Nero in Rome in 67 AD.
