A Train: thanks for the tips on editing the pages I added (RobotFest et al). I'll keep on tweaking them - but it will take quite awhile to get up to your G8 Summit page goodness!!!! --CarlosFlys 14:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Editing my page one last time

I tried to format my final statement so it appears in four lines, with the "-" mark in front of each line. Instead as you can see, it's showing all in line.

If you know how to fix this, please inform me. One Elephant went out to play... 18:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Fixed it for you. Good luck in your future endeavors. A Train take the 18:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help. I am sorry I cannot stay, and hope you never run into the abusive and evil administrators that it was my misfortune to encounter. One Elephant went out to play... 18:28, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mea culpa

Sorry about that - I went looking for the last edit by Jimbo on his talk page but forgot it was not the last edit on the talk page. As a result, I inadvertently edited the wrong version. Mea culpa. Metamagician3000 00:56, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I went to your talk page to leave a warning, and saw that it was highly unlikely that you had lost your marbles and decided to start on a vandalism binge. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, and I'm glad to see that I was right to do so. :) A Train take the 01:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :) I'm glad that I assumed good faith with you, too, and worked out that it was actually my error that caused the problem. All the best! Metamagician3000 01:27, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GNAA

No, I didn't see the RFP request (I should have checked there first, my fault). There was a comment at AN/I about it, that's all I saw. Feel free to revert the protection; I'm not planning to wheel war nor was I attempting to start one. · j e r s y k o talk · 14:46, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, yes, but it seems to me that not closing an AFD is not an action. >Radiant< 15:08, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

  • (edconf) That wasn't intended as snarky. It seems to me that quite often, some admin is unsure what action to take in response to a debate, and therefore either hesitates or doesn't take action, and another admin is not unsure over the same debate and does take action. If that were not the case, all deletion-related backlogs would simply be cleared top-to-bottom. I have no way of knowing how many admins saw that deletion debate after it "timed out" and decided not to take action on it, and that's not really important; what matters is that it (eventually) gets closed after timing out. >Radiant< 15:29, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, just coming here to say thanks a bunch for you congrats, the new tools are taking a bit of getting used to - I now understand the pressures of being an admin! [edit] My RFA

As you may or may not be aware, my RFA passed today with approximately 99% support. While I will be distributing my blanket thank-you to everyone else later with AWB (I'm not on a computer that has it), I wanted to take the time to thank you for your input. It takes a lot of guts to stand up and be the sole holder of an opinion in a group that is against you nearly unanimously. I am especially impressed that you managed to keep your cool and stand by your decision, in light of people disagreeing with you. While you did not support me, I do hope that I will not disappoint you as an admin. If you ever have an issue with my actions, please don't hesitate to bring it to my attention so I can hopefully remedy them before they are out of control. All the best, ^demon[omg plz] 20:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I wish you nothing but the best of luck, and I am glad that you did not take my opposition for a personal slight. I hope that you do well as an admin and bring credit to our project. A Train take the 16:29, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks like SCEhardt got them already. Thanks for your concern. Although there's nothing wrong with going straight to an admin, I might not have been around. To ensure a response, next time try posting at WP:AIV. Cheers, A Traintake the 18:06, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recreation of Smiley Central

You speedied Smiley Central (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) this morning, but it looks like it got recreated this afternoon. Is it the same content as before, with the same non-notable website? You might want to check into it. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 20:50, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of image

You have apparently deleted an image that I posted earlier today, Image:Sonning cutting map.png. I find it grossly insulting that you should have done this without explanation. I am, I believe, a reasonably level and responsible contributor to Wikipedia and I take your failure to provide an explanation for the deletion as calculated contempt. Nick 21:29, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Nick, I'm truly sorry that I caused you any grief. I generally make a point of ensuring that the original author or uploader of the subject of a speedy deletion is informed, and I'm afraid that I made the mistake of assuming that you had already been contacted. For my part, I was simply going through Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and following through with the deletions themselves. Someone else, hours earlier, had tagged your image for deletion, and quite rightly, as the copyright status of the image precluded it from being used here at Wikipedia.
Given that I do not recall any previous interactions with you, I hope that you realize that the odds of my action being calculated contempt are rather small. I am in the habit of leaving talk page messages, but I'm not perfect, and doing so is a courtesy and not required by policy.
Once again, I'm sorry for your aggravation, and regret not ensuring that you had been informed.
Cheers, A Traintalk 00:51, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
And one more thing: deletions are not exactly cloak-and-dagger stuff; if you ever find yourself in a similar predicament in the future, just search the deletion log for the title of your image. A Traintalk 00:54, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ADERANT

I would like to ask you to reconsider your deletion decision on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ADERANT. I made a process objection to taking an article from Speedy-A7 directly to AfD, based on no claim of notability when such a claim could be made, making A7 moot. I also objected to the focus of the deletion debate moving from A7 to WP:N in mid-stream. From a process standpoint, I think this sets a bad precedent. If an A7 is contested, then that issue should be settled, separate and apart from WP:N. If a sourced article is challenged for the sources not satisfying WP:N, the article should be tagged first to allow a reasonable period of time to find better sources. A7 should not be a shortcut to AfD, particularly when the article is not a good A7 candidate in the first place.

Aside from this, the consensus for or against deletion was not that clear, and you gave no explanation on which arguments you found convincing, which you discounted, and why. So I would also ask that you add these comments to the archive, whatever you decide.

Full disclosure: personally, I have no vested interest in this article, other than the time I spent Googling for references and adding them during the deletion debate. And I don't approve of the original author's behavior, though I do sympathize with his frustration. My primary interest was related to what I perceive as an anti-commercial bias that I commented on in Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Anti-commercial bias?, which is where I became aware of this AfD. Dhaluza 01:00, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review if there's a problem with it and explain all your issues their Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 01:02, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
As the good Mr. Postlethwaite points out if you really feel that I was out of process, by all means head over to DRV. Just off the top of my head, I seem to recall a lot of the sources being cited by "keep" !voters were company press releases, and thus not independent, reliable sources. I'm more than happy to pop over to the archived debate and reconstruct my logic for you later on this evening, though; I'll leave a summary on the AfD's talk page. A Traintalk 01:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pimpin ?

A explanation as to the deletion of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pimpin please A Train, and assistance to remedy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Purplex (talk • contribs) 01:55, 29 March 2007 (UTC).

Pimpin was tagged for speedy deletion because the article very neatly fit into Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, section G11; because it basically read like an advertisement. Two hours after it was tagged for speedy deletion by an editor, I deleted it. If you plan on recreating speedy, I suggest that you:
  1. Read through WP:Notability.
  2. Cite several independent, reliable, non-trivial sources in the article.
  3. Get another editor (or two or three) to give you some objective input on the article.
Otherwise, it's just going to get deleted again. If there aren't independent sources that will help demonstrate the subject's notability, then Wikipedia isn't the place for it. Cheers, A Traintalk 02:04, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
