Carmine (color)

Carmine is the general term for a particularly deep red colour. Some Rubies are carmine. The deep red colour shown below as carmine is the colour of the raw unprocessed pigment, but lighter, richer, or brighter colors are produced when the raw pigment is processed, some of which are shown below.

- The name is often applied to descriptions of blood, because it is the color of dried blood.
- Carmines is occasionally used as a nickname for the Boston Red Sox.
- The color of the Redshirt (stock character) of Star Trek's shirts is Carmine.
- The national flag of Latvia is colored carmine with a horizontal white stripe.
