Ian Buruma

Ian Buruma (* 1951) ist ein anglo-niederländischer Schriftsteller, Journalist und Kommentator mit Spezialgebiet Asien.
Er wurde in den Niederlanden geboren, hat einen niederländischen Vater und eine englische Mutter. Buruma studierte chinesische Literatur und japanischen Film an der Nihon-Universität in Tokio. Er hatte dann verschiedene Positionen als Redakteur und Dozent inne.
Er hielt Stipendien am Woodrow Wilson Institut für Geisteswissenschaften, Washington D.C. und am St. Antony's College, Oxford.
2003 wurde Buruma Professor für Demokratie, Menschenrechte und Journalismus am Bard College in New York.
Buruma hat derzeit (2006) seinen Wohnsitz in New York.
