Wikipedia:WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology/Worklist

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Contents

This worklist for the Molecular and Cellular Biology WikiProject provides structure and organization to all the work going on. The progress statistics from this worklist will be posted monthly on the project discussion page.

This list is updated approximately every day using the information automatically generated by Mathbot based on the characteristics specified in the {{Wikiproject MCB}} template on each article's talk page. A second application written by ClockworkSoul takes the information on the Mathbot-generated page and merges it with this page as follows:

  • Newly tagged article are automatically added. The default section is "Uncategorized".
  • The status, importance, and comments for all existing listings are copied directly from Mathbot's page. Any manual changes to this page are lost.
  • Each entry's "section" is preserved, so you can freely move listings from, for example the "Fundamentals" section to "Cell Biology".
  • Any listing that is not in Mathbot's page is automatically labelled in its comments section as not having a {{Wikiproject MCB}} template.

[edit] Grading

Each article is assigned two grades: one for "importance" and another for "completeness". As mentioned above, these grades as assigned to articles by adding and/or updating the {{Wikiproject MCB}} template on that article's talk page. If you have improved an article, you may adjust the entry in the template yourself, or you may simply put a remark in the talk page that improvements have been done.

[edit] Completeness

The system used by this project is the one proposed by the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team for assessing how close an article is to "complete". The system is based on a letter scheme that reflects the status of completion for each article (article style and language quality carry just as much weight as the completeness of information). Once an article reaches the A-Class, it is considered "complete", although obviously edits will continue to be made.

MCB
articles
Importance
Top High Mid Low None Total
Quality
Featured article FA 5 3 8 1 17
A 1 1 2
Good article GA 14 3 4 3 24
B 38 47 51 12 148
Start 65 124 154 86 1 430
Stub 27 70 103 281 5 486
Assessed 150 247 321 383 6 1107
Unassessed 0 0 0 0 2865 2865
Total 150 247 321 383 2871 3972

The completeness of the article may be adjusted by updating the class attribute in the {{Wikiproject MCB}} template in the article's talk page. The six valid arguments for this attribute are:

  • FA — Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status after peer review, and meet the current criteria for featured articles.
  • A — Excellent articles of a length suitable for the subject that provide a well-written, reasonably clear and complete description of the topic. If an article is good enough to be an FA, it is an A article.
  • GA — Articles that have passed through the Good article nomination process and been granted GA status, meeting the good article standards.
  • B — Articles that contain a majority of the material needed for a completed article but nonetheless have significant gaps or missing elements or references.
  • Start — Articles that have a meaningful amount of good content, but are still weak in many areas, possibly lacking a key element such as a standard infobox.
  • Stub — Articles that are either very short or rough collections of information that will need much work to bring it to A-Class level.

[edit] Importance

This attribute declares how important the article in question is to this wikiproject. It is based loosely on how aware the general population is, and therefore how likely they are to consult the Wikipedia on the subject.

The importance of an article may be adjusted by updating the importance attribute in the {{Wikiproject MCB}} template in the article's talk page. The four valid arguments for this attribute are:

  • Top — Subjects that are first closely examined by the average person in high school or earlier (bacteria, amino acid), or that general public has a minimal awareness of and that receive significant attention in the media (stem cell).
  • High — Subjects that are generally examined at the lower-division college level (RNA polymerase) or are only very briefly mentioned at the high school level (endoplasmic reticulum).
  • Mid — Subjects that are examined at the graduate or upper-division level (chaperonin, complement system) or are first closely examined at this level (RuBisCO).
  • Low — Obscure subjects that are known only to researchers in the specific field (UvrABC endonuclease).

[edit] Fundamentals of molecular and cellular biology

This category is designated for articles about basic topics in molecular and cellular biology that form the very foundations of the subject. While there may be a degree of crossover between this category and the more specific categories below, this is designated for topics that are generally introduced to the average person at the high school level or lower.

Firstly, I feel that wikipedians would benifit from a PDB derived image of a connexin (maybe connexin 43), as well as some information about where it is found on the genome, its mass, etc.

Also, lets try to find most of the known functions of the various connexin molecules and add function not yet known. to those that are unknown at the time (Careful of OR though :)

A short little description, like: made from, how big, etc.. should suffice) Also, I have added a diagram that I came across that seemed to be particularly helpful. (edit comment)
