Fishing Party (Australia)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fishing Party is a minor political party in Australia. To date it has not achieved parliamentary representation. The party has branches in several states. It is headquarted in Singleton NSW.
The party is known for the motto I FISH & I VOTE
The party has protectionist leanings, in that it wishes to control risk to flora and fauna from infections carried by imports. It is an 'environmentalist' group with a priority on management and access rather than preservation. The party sees its role as being the promotion of sustainable recreational fishing, with an emphasis on humans as being part of the eco-system, not apart from it.
The Fishing Party (Queensland) (TFPQ) achieved party registration in 2006, but not until after the 2006 Queensland State election. Nevertheless the TFPQ ran 4 candidates as independants, and they averaged 8% of the vote, within their respective electorates.
