[edit] Re: rv of my changes to template:MTGsets
I standardized the names so that all of them would look alike and searchers would not be confused. What is the conflict with Wikipedia naming conventions? Ryan Prior 17:59, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Your sig
Please refrain from oversizing the font in your signature. It's likely to lead to more sig wars, where editors compete with each other over who has the biggest and most noticable sig. The white on black is already very noticable by itself. There's no need to oversize it.
Of course, this isn't anything more than a polite (I hope) request. But because we don't have any firm authority figures policing such things, we have to rely on the good will and good faith of others to keep things running smoothly. Please reconsider so we don't see the equivalent of "sig spamming" here. Thanks. --Unfocused 01:05, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I made it smaller. It didn't look oversized in my browser before, but I'll better leave out the size attribute. Grue 04:09, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mirandom
No, I'm not an impostor. My roommate wrote that article about me as a joke and greatly exaggerated most of what my film club has done at New College, to a degree that borders on the fictitious. For instance, I remember no gala fundraisers by my film club. This means that either A) They were incredibly successful and so gala that I do not, in fact, remember them or B) This did not occur. I just don't think it's appropriate for Wikipedia to have a joke vanity article full of exaggerations on someone whose life accomplishments include only writing an essay without verbs, starting a film club at a minor school, and winning a Fulbright. If everyone who won a Fulbright had an article on here, there would be over 365,000 articles on Fulbrighters alone, and, I imagine, an amazing bandwidth cost, as most of these 365,000+ people are much more accomplished than myself. I don't know what proof you require, but please don't accuse me of being someone I'm not, or of not being someone I am. Trust me, I am much too boring of a person to inspire that sort of controversy. Even on the Internet. Please forgive me if I'm editing the talk page incorrectly; I'm sort of new to this wiki thing and am learning slowly. Feel free to fix (but then, see, you'd be impersonating me!). Sincerely, Miranda Tedholm--Mirandom 10:42 PM EST 2005 JUN 8

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. you recently voted to delete at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Matthew 1:verses
however, that VfD concerned only the verses from Matthew 1, wheras Uncle G's proposal covered a much larger group of verses.

[edit] thanks for supporting me
Hello, just a quick note to express my gratitude for your support of my RfA. I'm sure I'll become a familiar face on places like the Administrator's Noticeboard and Requests for Adminship, as well as the murkier parts of my new job. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48, NIV) Never was a truer word spoken. I feel empowered, yes, but not in the "oooh cool delete button!" way I was kind of expecting. Already I feel the weight of the responsibility I have now been entrusted with, a weight that will no doubt reduce given time. Thank you for believing in me. :) GarrettTalk 10:33, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki-elitism
Hi, thanks for the support on Hen that lays golden eggs - I have a question though. Why is it that there are so many arrogant elitists on Wikipedia who are determined to delete everything they believe is not within the limitations of what they deem to be right for this site? I always believed Wikipedia was a free, open source medium for people to share information and knowledge in a combined effort to create decent articles that would contribute to this online encyclopedia. It seems to me, having been a registered user for a bit now that many users are too stubborn to be open-minded and allow room for evolution or progression. There have been several other articles I've noticed that have either been deleted or put up for deletion without a valid reason other than some user saying it's "nonsense", "not encyclopedic" or apparently "wrong". I find it sad to think that such a mentality is what runs this project, because it is very intimidating and I really see no progress. I think some people are far too obsessed with their own opinions to be open for new articles, even if they aren't written too well or require more work - heck I thought that was parrt of the beauty of the project, to incur change and contribute, not to simply delete every thing because it doesn't apply to some ridiculous strict code of rules!
Anyway thanks again for helping me support that article, hopefully it'll stay but it seems the user who put it up for deletion is hell-bent on having it deleted and doesn't even come to reason. Piecraft 05:15, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for supporting my RfA
Dear Grue: Even though you did not support my candidacy, I would like to thank you for taking the time to vote on my RfA. In some respects, Oppose votes are as useful to me as Support votes, since they serve to highlight areas in which I can improve myself and become a better administrator. Since my RfA was successful, I would be exceptionally grateful if you might tell me how you would like to see me improve, and what areas you think I should work on to ensure that I am successful as an administrator - I am always looking for feedback. I am most grateful for your assistance, and I look forward to working with you in the future. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 05:04, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#Template: Album infobox 2
I wonder if you'd reconsider your vote? I'm certainly not suggesting that all fair use images be removed from Wikipedia, only that they should be used within the definition of "fair use". In the case of album covers, that means that they can be used to illustrate an article on the album in question; this template, though, uses them to illustrate links to articles. The template looks attractive (if now somewhat bloated and slow to load with a slow dial-up connection), but I don't think that that's enough to justify the misuse of these images. If you still feel the same way about the vote, then fair enough. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:37, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Alphax RfA
On the Alphax RFA you wrote - "the oppose votes are ridiculous (no offence intended :))". I actually take offence. I normally support a candidate. This time I didn't. I went to some pains to explain why not and it was on the basis of the answers Alphax had given about AfD closure. Others felt the same way and also bothered to explain. If Alphax reviews the AfD answer and clarifies in some way, I will be happy to reconsider my position. Because I (and others) explained why Alphax's candidacy is not supported with valid reasons that address issues raised by the candidate, your comment on our votes is offensive.--User:AYArktos | Talk 22:13, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fahrenheit 9/11½
I do agree that Moore's "stuff", as you called it, might show a strong opinion, but propaganda is not the right term for it, as it implies a judgment. I'd rather use "information" because it's more generic (you can have good or bad information), and sticks to Wikipedia's policy of NOT giving an opinion. Hiding "propaganda" into "opinionated commentary" might also sound tricky. For these reasons I did reverted - again - your edit to Fahrenheit 9/11½. Nova77 23:21, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] harassment
Stop harassing people. There are other opinions in this world besides yours. Besides, I'm no longer contributing to WP precisely because of comments like yours. Wikipedians are not supposed to 'own' pages, but too many of them think they do to be worth my time. JohnSankey 15:10, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
- I won't reply on your talk page because you'll delete it anyway. I just checked my dictionary for "harass" and it says "to disturb persistently". Since I interacted with you only once, I doubt that constitutes "harassment". Regarding people who revert your edits, it's probably because you are doing something wrong, not them "owning the pages". [edit] Flaming Milka
Hello Grue, I was curious as to the Flaming Milka undeletion. It was originally deleted (granted, with only two votes) because there were no references except for a personal website and the page creator's insistence that credible references did, in fact, exist. I had previously stated that both the notability and the verifiability of the article were questionable, although if both could be established, then I would change my stand on deleting it.
Also, if it is indeed kept, the article's title should be moved as nicknames generally should not be included in a page title.
Thanks Paul 19:34, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
