Sylvester James

Sylvester James (Los Angeles, 6 settembre 1948 – Oakland, 16 dicembre 1988) è stato un musicista statunitense "disco" e "soul". Muove i primi passi artistici con il gruppo "The Cockettes". Con la sua classica voce in falsetto diventa un primattore nell'era della "discomusic" con un poker di brani che spopolano in discoteca: "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", "Dance (Disco Heat)", "I Who Have Nothing" e "Stars". Al suo fianco come coriste vengono scelte le "Weather Girls".
Quattro anni dopo il primo successo arriva, nel 1982, "Do You Wanna Funk" l'ultimo prodotto in stile Patrick Cowley. Con la scomparsa di quest'ultimo, la sua musica cambierà registro pur rimanendo nel gruppo della "Megatone Records" fino al 1985.
Si è sempre esibito avendo come nome d'arte esclusivamente il suo nome di battesimo, ossia "Sylvester". È deceduto il 16 dicembre 1988 di AIDS.
