Jason "Jay" Hogart, played by Mike Lobel, is a fictional character on Degrassi: The Next Generation. He is usually portrayed as the school bully and bad boy, although he has rare flashes of conscience (e.g., persuading Spinner not to burn down Degrassi school and when J.T. tried to kill himself he rushed over when nobody bother to move.), which would make him an anti-hero. Jay first appeared as a recurring character in 2003 with Alex Nuñez as his girlfriend. Now in Season Six, it is noticed that Jay has a job with Sean at an auto shop.

[edit] Feud with Dylan
His first appearance is in the first part of the episode "Pride". He confronts Marco Del Rossi and tells him he should stay away from "Homochuck", or Dylan. It is concluded that the two hate each other, or that Jay is homophobic. Ironically, Lobel first audtitioned for the part of Dylan.
[edit] Bad Boy
Jay Hogart was well-known around Degrassi for being bad, sucking ass in fighting, and he even had a mini-gang which included his friend Towerz, his girlfriend Alex and Alex's friend Amy and later Sean Cameron. They stole candy, a laptop, a DVD player, broke into the school, and got into fights.

[edit] The Shooting
When Rick returns to Degrassi (he had left after hitting Terri and putting her in a coma), Jay, along with the entire school, bullies him. Rick later spray paints Jay's and Spinner's cars. Jay and Spinner want to get back at Rick, so they form a plan with Alex. Just as Rick won an academic competition for the school, Jay, Spinner, and Alex devised a prank to dump paint and feathers on him. This is the final straw for Rick. Completely blinded by his own hurt and rage, he brings a gun to school. Jay and Spinner, unaware of the extent of Rick's rage, find a way to convince him that it was Jimmy (who has recently befriended Rick) who set up the prank. With this false information, Rick shoots Jimmy, paralyzing him, and then he tries to shoot Emma Nelson.
But Sean stops him by trying to take the gun away, and in the process, ends up accidentally killing Rick.
Jay doesn't want Spinner or Alex to confess to their part in the shooting. Spinner later admits the truth, and both he and Jay are expelled from school. In his anger, Spinner wants to burn down the school, but Jay talks him out of it.
[edit] Gonorrhea
Before his expulsion, Jay spends most of the time at the ravine, where many kids of a "bad" sort hang out to get drunk, party, do drugs, and have sex. He is one of the many who participate in oral sex with girls, and gives out bracelets as a "prize". Emma later becomes one of those girls, but quickly learns that she isn't the only one. Emma later finds out that she has gonorrhea after a doctor's visit ends her "relationship" with Jay.
[edit] Season 5
[edit] Drug Dealing
When J.T needed more to support Liberty and her upcoming baby, he got a job at a drugstore but he still needed more money which Jay suggested he start to sell some drugs to some guys he knew. Eventually the situation got out of hand for J.T and he tried to kill himself but was, luckily, unsuccessful.
[edit] No Friends
With Sean in Wasaga Beach, Towerz moved away, Amy gone, and broken up with Alex, Jay only had one friend, Spinner. This friendship didn't last as Jay told Darcy she needed to let Spinner have sex with her or she would lose him. Darcy later told Spinner who got into a fight with Jay. Jay then said that he changed since becoming a Christian and their friendship was broken. Finally at the end of school, he got Alex back after she broke up with Paige, but only as friends since he figured out that she was a lesbian. Also in a Degrassi Mini when Sean Cameron returns he says that all his friends are drug dealers whose names he doesn't even know.
[edit] Season 6
[edit] Sean and Peter
Unlike his former friend Spinner, Jay makes the decision not to return to school and finish his education. He works as a mechanic, and will later use his connections to find Sean a job. But at the opening of Season Six, he is apparently playing host to Sean, who is now back from Wasaga and enrolled in Degrassi. It is Jay and Sean who spark Peter Stone's interest in cars and street racing.
After one race between Peter and Sean ends up going terribly wrong -- Sean hits an innocent man out for a nighttime jog -- it is Jay who advises Sean to run away from the scene of the crime. Sean takes his friend's advice, but later gives himself up to the police out of guilt and persuasion on Emma's part. Although Jay is not one to wear his emotions on his sleeve, it is clear that he cares about Sean when he returns to Degrassi to tell Mr. Simpson and Emma that someone should be there to morally support Sean during his hearing, as Jay is unable to attend due to work.
Jay and Alex are friends again, after Jay comforted Alex regarding her break-up with Paige at the end of Season 5.
[edit] Sean Finds Out
Sean soon finds out about Emma giving Jay oral sex while he was away. When Jay tells Sean that Emma "Damn near begged me to let her do it," Sean gets angry and almost punches Jay. Jay dodges Sean's fist and Sean looks stupid by punching a wall.
[edit] Feelings For Emma?
In the episode Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Jay shoots Emma longing glances and tries to talk to her about their past. Emma blows him off and with her rudeness comes a very disappointed Jay. But there have been hints that Jay has feelings for Emma and thought there is no valid information, there is speculation..... Jay was the first of his gang to call Emma names and even stood up to Rick for her, when Emma tripped Rick at the Dot one day.
