[edit] Request regarding dialect differention
Hi. I'm guessing that you are the one who provided a standard romanization for my freehand version of Taibei Taiwanese. I was going to digitize the sentence I tried to write out, which I have on an old phono disk, but then I wouldn't know how to romanize it correctly. If you are a native speaker of S. Min, could you please make a WAV file or equivalent and link it to that point? I think I can get a Mandarin speaker to do the same thing for the other sentence. Thanks. P0M
- I am a native speaker for both, but most likely I will not have enough incentive to actually make the voice files for the article Chinese dialect. Sorry. --Kaihsu Tai 10:08, 2004 Jan 8 (UTC)
[edit] Blanking
Please don't just blank pages. It is considered vandalism unless the page itself is vandalism (in which case you should also list it on WP:VFD or WP:CU or add to the page so that someone can delete it). When it's not vandalism, it should be listed on VFD and voted upon by others. Dori | Talk 06:23, Jan 21, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Photographs of Oxford
Today was a good day (emphasis on was -- English weather!), so I went into town (Oxford) and took lots of photos of the colleges and other significant places. --Kaihsu Tai 15:42, 2004 Jan 24 (UTC)
Have you got one of the King's Arms? Stewart Adcock 19:42, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC) (BTW: The weather is still great here ;-) )
- Mate, how can you use 'weather' and 'great' in the same sentence without also using 'not'?? You Californians, get a proper governor! :) And sorry, no photograph for King's Arms, but one for Blackwell's. Neither of these places have an article yet, though (and probably should not). --Kaihsu 11:56, 2004 Feb 6 (UTC)
Thanks for your vote of support, Kaihsu. I'm sure that I will go and accept, but I'm in lurk-mode at the moment. "Our" governor could beat-up "your" prime minister any day ;). I spotted at least two clouds here yesterday ;) Stewart Adcock 22:07, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Ni Ni
Hi Kaihsu, I notice you just changed "not not" back to "neither nor" in the translation of Ni Putes Ni Soumises... I wasn't sure about that myself. I know that's the dictionary translation of "ni... ni" I just wasn't sure if it really represented the catchiness and power of the phrase in French; neither... nor is awfully formal in English, in spoken language people would be more likely to say "not.. or". To me, the phrase "nous sommes ni putes ni soumises" is a more direct and powerful than "we are neither whores nor submissives". :) fabiform | talk 11:15, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Sorry, I did not check the history of the article Ni Putes Ni Soumises. Feel free to change it back. Even better, please make an entry in fr: if it does not exist there already!! Cheers. -- Kaihsu 11:18, 2004 Feb 11 (UTC)
[edit] KLM/Air France
Hi, sorry, but I removed the listing of KLM/Air France from Main page. The guidelines on Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page state that articles on current events should only be added if the article is updated with the relevant context (logical I think). Perhaps if either of those articles is updated we can readd the link -- Viajero 13:59, 12 Feb 2004 (UTC)

[edit] nomination for adminship
Hey, thanks for the nomination!
One of the reasons I didn't accept it yet is that I'm still not sure if I want to become involved in time-consuming wikipedia even deeper ;-/. Of course, being an admin doesn't necessarily mean to become involved deeper -- but I'm not sure about two things. One is "morality" (or something); with an adminship maybe I'll feel I need to meedle even further with our bureaucracy and decision making processes etc. The other thing is "usefulness" -- if with an adminship I'll behave mostly like a standard non-admin contributor, I'm not sure if there is any use in that (besides of this being a sort of honor). So I'll wait a bit (maybe until tomorrow) before I accept the nomination process or not. -- till we *) 21:33, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The way I understand it, Natural Resources Canada's "non-commericial use" condition is not compatible with the GFDL, so I don't think "Image:Canada eng.jpg" complies with the Wikipedia:Image use policy. [edit] Sealand
Please note that Sealand is protected. You may have edited it by mistake. --Wik 20:42, Apr 25, 2004 (UTC)

- Hello Kaihsu, It would make sense if the nonsense on the Sealand page is moved back to the existing Principality of Sealand page where it belongs and the redirect removed from that page and placed instead on Sealand to point to Sealand (disambiguation).
- This silly "Principality of Sealand" page makes Wiki look really stupid because the facts are not addressed. The UN and nations of the world, especially US and USA have stated on the legal record in a court of law (1990 and reaffirmed in 1991) that the claims by Bates are silly and untrue. The Cabinet of the UK essentially called Bates a "nut" back in 1967. Ryan Lackey who founded Havenco has admitted to the truth of the ship court case of 1990-1991 which he claims to have been unaware of and also claims on his web site that Bates deceived him. He also laments that he has no place to sue because "Sealand" is essentially a hoax and a fraud. Yet this stupid site starts out by claiming that it is a "micronation", which is silly because it is sunken Royal Navy barge - a military wreck which has always been marked by UK taxpayer's buoys put there by the UK Ministry of Defence. The UK has slapped down EVERY claim that Bates ever made about starting a radio, TV or data transfer station on the old military wreck. They even forbade him from putting his own buoys in the water! What more does anyone want? The HM Solicitor for the Treasury stated that all UK courts have jurisdiction and Essex Police who did board the wreck once, have also admitted to having jurisdiction. The fact is that the squatters are not doing anything and staying within UK law so the UK doesn't care. The only people who do care and who are inventing this silly story are fans on Wiki!
- I suggest that the topic is stuck back on its own page to begin with and that "Sealand" is redirected to the disambiguation page. MPLX/MH 22:46, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I think my only career advice is not to pursue a career in academia in the United Kingdom... too much work and not enough pay. But then, I'm guessing you've spotted that by now! :) Not that I'm recommending local government much more... Still, at least Oxford's a nice city to study in, particularly in the Summer, with the punting and all... - Thanks. No, they do not allow people on the bridge anymore. -- Kaihsu 09:31, 2004 Apr 27 (UTC)

- Is nothing sacred? Gah, I have fond memories of staying up all night drinking, to go and stand on the bridge and watch the surreal sight of a choir on a rooftop singing at the sun... Presumably this means there's no more students throwing themselves in the Cherwell either. My first year there was the first year that a female student jumped naked into the river on May Day, earning her a place on Page 3 of the Sun! - MykReeve 21:19, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Star on England 2004 football strip
During Euro 2004, the England national football team's uniform has a yellow 5-pointed star in front, under the team coat-of-arms. What does this mean? A championship they have won? Or just decorative? -- Kaihsu 09:43, 2004 Jun 23 (UTC)
It shows they have won 1 major football tournament (the 1966 World Cup Final). It is not unique to England, several other countries have followed this trend recently, although there is not a standard. It was started by Brazil as a celebration of the fact that they have won more World Cups than any other nation1. Some countries include regional tournament wins such as the UEFA European Championship or the African Nations Cup in their star count. akaDruid 11:14, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I'm not particularly familiar with the intricacies of church denominations, but I noticed that you established the original redirects for the Presbyterian Church in England and Congregational Church in England. - No, it is not correct. It is at best misleading, and at worst malevolent. I have changed it back. Thanks for pointing it out. – Kaihsu 17:52, 2004 Nov 7 (UTC)
[edit] Category: Calvinists
Hi Kaihsu. I see that you added a "Calvinists" category. How would you distinguish that group from those labeled "Reformed Theologians"? --Flex 19:26, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...
- ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
- ...all articles...
using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.
- Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 17:56, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Your copyright on pictures
You have Copyright 2004 © Kaihsu Tai on multiple photographs from article The Guardian, yet also list them as GFDL. Please clarify. 119 07:16, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I cannot license them under GFDL without asserting copyright. Please read the licence. – Kaihsu 11:43, 2004 Dec 8 (UTC)
[edit] Docent Ångström
I reverted your change on Ångström regarding his title. Neither the docent nor the Privatdozent articles really reflect what the Swedish docent title denotes (and this has changed over time). When I get time, I'll look into the history of the title and write a paragraph in the docent article (perhaps the two articles should actually be merged). / up◦land 16:46, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
