[edit] History
KMLE's first owners got a permit in 1979, under the KLRG call sign. It was never used, and eventually, it acquired the KMLE call letters on 18 June of that year. KMLE is one of two Country music outlets in the Phoenix market, since it is locked into a long time battle with Clear Channel-owned KNIX, which began in 1988. The battle could be ground down to the conglomerates that own the two stations: Clear Channel (KNIX) and CBS Radio (KMLE).
[edit] Misc.
Though the station's ID may sound like "Camel Country", it is spelled with the station's call letters. The same goes for the KMLE in KMLE Nation.
[edit] KMLE Nation
The station runs a major listening club known as the KMLE Nation. It has its own website, [1]. This program not only is the front-end for such promotions as a concert rewards shirt, "KMLEflage" and as a front-end for station miscellaneous items and community support, it is used frequently on air: so much that one of the big programs has Nation in its title: Jeff West's weekday nighttime show, the Nighttime Nation.
