In the late 20th century he moved to Paris, living under the alias of Bob Parnel. He worked as a programmer for a software company "Handlink Software", being observed by Watcher Annie Raphaella, who was one of his co-workers. He lived a quiet life, not participating much in The Game. He had many mortal friends and, in nine years, his Watcher didn't see him once with a sword. Instead, he liked to play Rugby, see American horror films and eat chocolate. On the night of May 29, 1995, Immortal Kalas escaped jail, after being arrested for the murder of two men, who were, in reality, Watchers. In need of a sword and a Quickening, he stole a car and drove through the city searching for an Immortal to run over. The first he found turned out to be Auberon, who was on the way to a friend's birthday after a long day of work. Auberon had no chance of defending himself. After being run over, while lying on the floor, he pleaded Kalas to face him by the rules of The Game. Kalas, however, ignored him and beheaded Auberon with his own sword. It was with Auberon's sword that Kalas fought with Duncan MacLeod a few days later.
