[edit] Welcome
Hello Mxn, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you ever need editing help, see Wikipedia:How to edit a page. You can also see how to format pages at Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you need pointers on how we title pages visit Wikipedia:Naming conventions. If you have any other questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or post a question in my talk page. Cheers, Muriel Gottrop 20:34, 9 Nov 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Hosting
Hi Minh, your site seems to be constantly down. You might want to migrate it elsewhere (try 1and1, they have a free offer for three years right now with all the features you'd expect from a paid service, and the uptime is much better). It's nice to see somebody working on Vietnamese-language articles. Nguyễn Hữu Dụng 128.195.100.178 05:35, 10 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Hi, I've actually been looking at Freedom to Operate for awhile. I would move my site somewhere else, but I just don't have the time. I don't even have time to work on more articles for the site. But I'll see what I can do. - Minh Nguyen, 22:19:56 (UTC-05:00) 11 November 2003
[edit] Vietnamese Wikipedia
Hello Mr. Minh Nguyễn! I see that you started to edit on the Vietnames Wikipedia. I hope that you have some Vietnamese speaking friend that could make something of it. I do not speak Vietnamese but I have been working with IT related issues in Vietnam (http://www.isoc-vn.org). I have asked the Wikipedia people to change it in order to write in Unicode but I have not got any response. Do you think that you could "take the lead" and try again? [edit] Vietnamese Wikisource
Hi, and thanks for your interest in the Vietnamese Wikisource. Because the trend on Wikisource is to put all languages on one project, language co-ordination will be important there. I've been trying to develop a consistent Master contents list that can be applied with simple translation in any language in the left purple box for every main page. I believe that the right green box should be developed by speakers of that language in a way that suits their purposes. To that end (since the Vietnamese Main Page purple box was not yet translated) I have revised that material to conform with the English main page. If you have any questions or comments please reply on my Wikisource user talk page. I look forward to your continuing future interest. ☮ Eclecticology 08:47, 2003 Dec 9 (UTC)
- There was a little bit of translated content (some headings, and a link), but I'll retranslate the purple box. The new version seems a little choppy, as there's only one line after each section heading. Wouldn't it work better as a definition list, with boldfaced definition terms (the questions)? – Minh Nguyen 02:11, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Viet Cong and Learning Project
Hi there, Cdang told me you knew Vietnamese, so I thought you might help out at the My Lai massacre article, which is protected because people disagree over whether the term "Viet Cong" is appropriate or not. Furthermore, would you be interested in a project about learning I have started, for vocabulary in particular? If so, please check my user page and let me know at my talk page where the project is discussed. Get-back-world-respect 13:46, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- First of all, I'm not an expert regarding the Vietnam War. I can tell you that the term Việt Cộng literally means "Vietnamese Communist," but that was already discussed on the Talk page. In my (Midwestern US) experience, the term VC is indeed mildly derogatory. But that's because many (if not all) of the older Vietnamese-Americans in my experience are (to some extent) anti-Communist. There are some Vietnamese and some other Vietnamese-American contributors here; they may be able to help more.
As for your project, I'll take a look at it when I have time. There already is some useful vocabulary at Wikibooks:Vietnamese, Common phrases in different languages, and Wiktionary. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs, blog) 18:06, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I started a new article about the ao dai. I'd appreciate it if you could read it over and fix any errors. Also, will you please add the way it's written in Vietnamese? If you have questions/comments please reply to my talk page. — J3ff 03:04, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] To the Commons !
Hello Mxn:
I found your note at Lee Lawrie and thanks, the Wired was a bit of a thrill. even for an old codger such as myself. I don't quite understand how the Commons works, and am not likely to spend the time learning, but I do have a lot of pictures spread around elsewhere, like Lawrie, mostly of sculpture. Oh yes, Cincinnati, right? You might consider taking and posting aphoto of the "Standing Lincoln" there by George Grey Barnard, which was a very controversal work in its day. Carptrash 03:05, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Barnard's Lincoln statue is located in Lytle Park, near the entrance. By your pig remark I assume that you are referring to the Monument to the Souls of the Pigs that were released to heaven while Cincinnati served as Porkopolis ? Yes, do that one, for sure. While wandering through the WPA Guide To Ohio [1940] i discovered this gem, "Eden Park. Among the statuary of the Park is the Capitoline Wolf Statue, presented by Benito Mussolini to the local Italian community." I wonder if it is still there? So, where are you bound for college? Carptrash 18:29, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
-
- Hello Minh - you sure know how to hurt a guy.
You wrote, "Just west of the lakes is the bronze replica of the Capitoline Wolf which was a gift from the Italian government and presented by the Order of the Sons of Italy in 1931. I wonder what happened to the original?" In 1978 I went looking through Rome for the original. i finally discovered it in the Capitoline Museum [the Capitoline was one of the Seven Hills of Rome]. However, I discovered later that when I took a picture of it the flash didn't go off. i still have a black slide in my Rome binder. It's a sore spot. Thanks for the porcine tiour of Cincinnati. The pigs i remember were standing on top of simulated riverboat smoke stacks. Anyway, perhaps a wikipedia piece about the Capitoline Wolf [without my sad story] is in order. Carptrash 15:47, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] IPA template
The IPA template is not just for IPA. All it does is invoke certain fonts (specifically, Arial Unicode MS). When you removed the IPA template from the Chuvash language page, you turned the Chuvash-specific Cyrillic letters into blank boxes for me. The only way I can read that page is with the IPA template. If you don’t like the template’s name, you can create a new template that calls those fonts and then add that one to the page. Otherwise, we need to have the IPA template put back as it was. —Stephen 12:09, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Zhuang Wikipedia
What can you tell me about Mark Williamson (en:user:node_ue)'s recent assertion in Wikipedia-l that the purportedly Zhuang content of the Zhuang Wikipedia (which I see you have contributed to in the past; that's how I came to write you here) is not in Zhuang? [edit] Klingon Wikipedia
You say on the multilingual monthly statistics page that Klingon has been closed. I didn't know that. Can you fill me in on the details? Was that last month, or this month? In the meantime, I'm reverting the edit because the statistics are for the first day of the month, when, as far as I know, the project was still running. [edit] Khmer Wikipedia
Hi there! You mention that the Khmer Wikipedia has, in fact, around 15 articles. Is there any way, then, to check up on the counter, which appears to be broken? [edit] Direction on MediaWiki templating
Howdy. I commented on your blog about XHTML and MT 3.2.... Thought you might be able to direct me to some easier Template tutorials. m:Help:Template is pretty confusing, even for a programmer and web designer such as myself. What's the best way to format templates on the page they're being used on? For example, I decided to put a Wikipedia:Babel key on my page, but noticed that you have yours left-aligned. What's the easiest way that I can edit templates like this? Does it require all the code listed in the edit box:
… or is it something easier like {{Babel-3|en|fr-1|es-1}-align:left}
(I totally made that up, by the way)? --J. J. 19:02, 2005 August 29 (UTC)
[edit] Listing of subpages?
While I'm asking, do you happen to know how to list all of a user's subpages? Also, I noticed your User:Mxn/Main_Page_logos page and am curious what the point was; I assume the Wikimedia projects have stopped linking to the images and now go straight to the home page, right? Oh yeah, how'd you come up with "Mxn"?

[edit] Reverted Template:if
Hi Mxn
Sorry for having reverted your edits to Template:if. if is very hairy stuff and is used in a lot of heavy duty templates. I'm also tracking some very strange bugs at the moment. I would be glad, if we could keep away any overhead as far as possible from if which is not absolutely needed. Thanks for your understanding! Maybe you could include your addition somewhere on the talk page? – Adrian | Talk 09:26, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations
For the "star" you all got in Ghandi's article (vietnamese wiki). I first saw it due to your vietnamese language robot addition in the Catalan viquipèdia.(Recent changes). I have read your external blog,(nice and eclectic) and if you want somebody to practise Spanish, I would like to have the opportunity to practise English with somebody that could use Spanish as guidance in a given case. On the other hand I could use Spanish when my lack of an English synonimous would require it. Just in case you are interested: Mi name is Toni (although i am not a girl...), I am 36, married, almost father of my first son, Pharmacy graduated. I work in a pharmaceutical lab in Barcelona, Catalonia (currently Spain)...Milky way...Universe, ;-) and live in a northern town 30 kmts (~17 miles) far from the city, called Mataró. I mainly contribute in the Catalan WIkipedia, in a lesser degree in the Spanish one, and just from time to time in the English version. Well I think it is enough for now. Congrutalations again. ca:User:Tonipares.

[edit] Source for Paraguay flag information
Way back in 2004 in your revision of the Flag of Paraguay page, you indicated that the obverse and reverse of the flag no longer differ. Do you have a source for this? According to the CIA World Fact Book, and the Flags of the World website, the flag still is unique amoung national flags in having two two differing sides. (It seems like simplified versions of the flag sometimes leave this out, but have the official specifications really changed?) ScottMainwaring 06:52, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for taking this out -- not a big deal, but it was causing confusion on the Flag of Oregon page (about another rare two-sided flag) which references the Paraguay flag in the respect. Hi, I didn't want to mean that it was not worth to have this article. What I wanted to say is that it sounds quite strange to have a so long part of (some irrellevant) statistics (tant per cent of families with a femenine head of family, etc). It's true that at the late time of night when I wrote it, I was not in the best cleverness moment and my comment could sound rude, so I'm sorry. I will not ask to delete it because it has also much interessant information. However, if you want to use more this method to create articles, we could discuss before about some changes so that later less corrections are required. Hi. I've just created Telex (IME) and VNI; could you take a look at those? I know nothing about the Vietnamese language, so the information there is 100% guesswork from looking at the Vietnamese WP and trying out the search box (which is really cool, BTW). — LazyEditor (talk|contribs) 11:10, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Wow, hats off to the person who wrote all that code. I also find it really weird (or sad) that English Windows does not include any Vietnamese IME (there's a bunch for CJK and Cyrillic, but nothing for Vietnamese). [edit] Whatredirectshere
Wow, thanks for your interest in the tool, and thank you for the translation! I've internationalised and localised the interface now, and the Vietnamese UI can be seen by appending ?lang=vi to the url. (http://tools.wikimedia.org/~tangotango/whatredirectshere.php?lang=vi) It can also be selected by using the small selector box in the top right hand corner of the page. (I will set up cookies or browser language detection when I have more time so the tool can remember/auto-detect the language to be used.)
I changed a couple of strings for the UI - can you translate them as well, please? They are:
- Could not connect to database server (Zedler may be down); Error was: <the error message goes here>
- Could not select database (The database you selected may be non-existent); Error was: <the error message goes here>
Zedler is the name of one of the toolservers. These errors rarely, if ever, happen, but it's nice to have complete coverage :)
Please note that the hemlock.knams.wikimedia.org URL is a temporary one, used while we migrate from the old toolserver to the new one. The URL will return to tools.wikimedia.org in a few weeks, so please link to the tools address from the wiki interface (it provides a temporary redirect at the moment).
Cheers, and thanks once again, Tangotango 17:13, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- See User talk:Tangotango.
-
- Thank you for the extra translations. I've updated the database error messages. I'm sorry, I can't translate the header and footer easily at the moment, as the interface is shared across all my tools and the code is in a bit of a mess at the moment. I'll use your translations when I internationalize the whole interface. By the way, in the English interface, do you prefer your name to be displayed as Minh Nguyễn or Nguyễn Xuân Minh? Cheers, Tangotango 08:28, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. Sorry, I must have been half-asleep yesterday. The correct URL is tools.wikimedia.de, not .org. (The latter is a redirect to the former). - Tangotango 17:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

It's rather ironic to get an award -here, the Nobel- for your novels that are in accordance with your political opinions. At this rate, though, they'll be the first person I've ever had to block in my nearly three years of being a sysop at various wikis. It really puzzles me that they'd make many productive edits at Wikipedia yet treat Meta the way they do. Anyways, thanks for keeping an eye on things, and I'll be checking back on them periodically. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 07:14, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed, I was surprised to see that this person is a good-faith contributor to Wikipedia. Hopefully, your warning will persuade him/her to treat Meta with the same level of respect. Thanks very much. —David Levy 12:08, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] wikEd
Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.
wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus:• syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • morefixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages• convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjustthe font size • and much, much more.
Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Usually it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

[edit] Nepali wikipedia
Thanks for your interest and suggestions in Nepali wikipedia. I have changed the page to include the .js file in Nepal Bhasa edition. If you are interested in helping us more, please list yourself in Nepal Bhasa Wikipedia so that we can contact you easily. Plus, I wanted to know the "code" for entry in multiple script like the one present in Vietnamese wikipedia as it can be of much value to wikipediae like Kashmiri and Romani.--Eukesh 01:00, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for revert
Thanks for your quick revert of the vandalism (back in March) to my Cree user page. I just noticed that. - dcljr (talk) 23:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Change to Common.css
Per recent discussions, the way in which Persondata is viewed by Wikipedia editors has changed. In order to continue viewing Persondata in Wikipedia articles, please edit your user CSS file to display table.persondata rather than table.metadata. More specific instructions can be found on the Persondata page. --ShakingSpirittalk on behalf of Kaldari 01:34, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wiktionary logos
I was waiting for conclusion to the debates, but none seem to be going anywhere, and the logo seems to have ~95% support in its current form. The Vietnamese logo is Image:WiktionaryViet.svg, and the favicon is Image:Wiktfavicon en.svg. I tried your suggestion of removing tilt from the tiles, but it them loses perspective and just looks like a brown square. I hope to try to upload must of the rest tommorow; I've got English, French, Korean and Japanese ready to roll. Laïka 22:16, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

- Oops, thanks for pointing that out; I had updated the Korean language version, but forgot to update the English one. As the English one is used as a template for the others, all the other versions had the same error. I'm uploading the fixed versions now. Laïka 15:38, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] ONN
OK, your summary is fine, but the PR Watch material is copyrighted under an Open Source license too. So I don't see how I was pilfering anything (and obviously I linked right to it).
I reverted "has been accused of running" to "has run" because the Dispatch article below cites this VNR use has having happened, not as some off-the-wall accusation. That's pretty rock-solid since, of course, the Dispatch owns ONN. Pretty much an admission that this is the case, I'd say.
I appreciate your greater experience in editing than mine. Thanks for noticing the post. -John 16:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Greeting
Nguyen, I appreciated your contributions on wiki and I believe anyone on wiki feel the same. You can change the pages I created all you like and anyway you feel suitable. But don't negate the my meaning and put words in my mouth again. Other than that have a good one. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Maitran.us (talk • contribs) 18:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC).
Hi. I noticed your article on VNI, and I'd like to thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive article. I've made a lot of changes to your article, mostly to fix grammar or spelling issues. Wikipedia has a rather lengthy set of style guidelines for articles, but I realize you might not have had the time to read through it yet, so I tried to make the article conform to those standards. (The links to VNI's website, for example, go in the "External links" section at the bottom.) I also added links to Wikipedia's many articles on computing throughout the article text. There are a lot of things for new contributors to learn at Wikipedia, so if you have any questions about why I changed a certain part of the article, or any questions about Wikipedia in general, feel free to leave a note on my talk page, and I'll try to help you out. Have a good day! – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 04:40, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need help with article United Dairy Farmers
Hi,
I noticed you as the last non-anonymous contributor to the article United_Dairy_Farmers. I marked the current version as NPOV and disputable, for what I consider obvious reasons. As I do not know about the truth of the assertions which I mentioned on the corresponding talk page, a "correction" was, IMHO, not possible for me. Maybe you could have a look? --217.91.92.94 12:59, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
