Northsound 2 is a commercial local radio station serving Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland, though it can be heard further afield in Orkney and the Highlands.

Northsound Radio launched at 6am on 27 July 1981. The first presenter on air was Bobby Hain, and the first record played was "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. Nicky Campbell is probably the best-known broadcaster to have started his career at Northsound, which he joined after graduating from the University of Aberdeen. He is now on BBC Radio 5 Live.

In 1995 the station split its services to become Northsound 1 on 96.9FM, and Northsound 2 on 1035MW. Both stations now also broadcast on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting – i.e. Digital Radio).

Northsound 2 is one of the most popular stations in North East Scotland. Providing adult comtemporary music and classic hits, with chat, competitions, local, national and international news and sport including local weather. Northsound 2 also broadcasts a weekly segment of Scottish Traditional music.

Northsound News currently has 5 broadcasting journalists at present with Neil Meitcalf as Head of News. Bulletins are broadcast every hour during the daytime hours. After 7pm, bulletins are taken from Radio Clyde's Scottish News Servive. Showbiz and weather are also regular parts of the output.

David Ridd is head of sport at Northsound. Sport bulletins are broadcast throughout the week at 8am, 1pm and 5:30pm during the week. During the 11am New Bulletin at weekends.

Travel news is also an integral part of Northsound 1's output. Updates are read out regularly throughout the daytime and at weekends including regular bulletins every half hour between 6-9am and 3-6:30pm during the week.
