CFM is an Independent Local Radio station launched in 1993. It broadcasts across Northern & Central Cumbria and the southern tip of Scotland, with transmitters in Carlisle, Penrith and West Cumbria.
It is currently owned by media giant Emap Radio and was previously run until 2005 by Scottish Radio Holdings. In 1993 it was originally launched by Border Television, with whom it shares its residence at broadcast centre.
The station's slogan is The Best Mix of Music. and it plays the songs from the 60's up to the present day. It is part of the Big City Network.

It launched at 8am on 14 April 1993 when Founder, Managing Director and breakfast show host John Myers played "The Best" by Tina Turner as its first song.
Originally CFM only broadcast from their Caldbeck site to Carlisle on 96.4 and Penrith on 102.5 FM until September 1995, when they also started transmitting to West Cumbria from their transmitter at Broughton Moor on 102.2 (Workington) and 103.4 FM (Whitehaven).
CFM are currently commercial market leader in Cumbria and Southern Scotland (Radio Authority Joint Audience Research data "RAJAR" Jan 2006). See "Ofcom" website for full ratings list.

CFM broadcasts local and national News every hour with an extended 15 minute news bulletin from 13.00 & 17.00. Head of News is Bill McDonald. There are 3 broadcast journalists in total at CFM.
