"Oceans" appeared on Pearl Jam's debut album Ten, track 7 of 11 on the American version. "Oceans" was also released as a single. Musically and texturally different from the rest of the album, "Oceans" was characterized as a more experimental track by the band in their 2000 audio documentary by "Star Profiles."

[edit] Lyrical meaning
The song was inspired by Eddie Vedder's affinity for surfing. Following Pearl Jam's performance of the song at their 1992 MTV Unplugged performance, Eddie Vedder stated, "[that was] a little love song I wrote about my surfboard...no actually it's to somebody named Beth who hopefully I'll see tomorrow."[1]
[edit] Music video
The video clip for the song, directed by Josh Taft, was shot in Hawaii during September 1992. It features fragmented clips of the band surfing interspersed with the band on stage and was only released outside the United States. Later it was included on the Touring Band 2000 DVD, as one of the Special Features.
