[edit] Plot
As the game opens, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are on a mission to rescue Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous. After landing in his capital ship, they fight their way through to the holding room, where Count Dooku awaits. Anakin and Obi-Wan attack him, but Obi-Wan is incapacitated by Dooku and Anakin is forced to continue without him. After slaying Dooku, Palpatine is released and the three attempt to escape, only to be captured by General Grievous and his Magnaguards. In an epic battle of reversed perspective, Anakin and Obi-Wan destroy the IG-100s, only to watch helplessly as Grievous makes his escape. Anakin then demonstrates his flying skills by setting the now defunct and broken ship down on Coruscant.
Obi-Wan is assigned to go to Utapau to confront Grievous. After battling through the droid army and Magnaguard contingent, the clone forces arrive to take control of Utapau and offer reinforcement to Obi-Wan's attack. With the main brunt of the opposition taken care of by the clones, Obi-Wan pursues Grievous as he tries to make his escape. In a duel which travels from an underground control room to the landing pad of Grievous' ship, Obi-Wan eventually overcomes Grievous' four-lightsaber technique and stabs through the Droid Leader's armor to his vital organs, incinerating them and putting an end to the fiend once and for all.
Meanwhile, Mace Windu learns that Palpatine is really a Sith Lord and goes to his office to arrest him. Anakin, struggling with his inner doubts, confronts and attacks Mace before he can deliver the killing blow. After a long fight which pushes Anakin's mind over the edge, Anakin stabs Mace through the chest, and with a swift kick delivers him to the streets below. He then pledges himself to Palpatine's teachings, anointed by the Chancellor as Darth Vader. Palpatine sends him to the Jedi Temple to exterminate the Order, all of which have now been deemed "enemies of the Republic". Palpatine then proceeds to give the infamous Order 66 to his clone commanders across the galaxy.
With a contingent of clone reinforcements, the newly-christened Darth Vader storms the Jedi Temple and destroys all Jedi who oppose him. After resetting the signal beacon to lure all remaining Jedi in the galaxy back to the temple under the guise of peace, he is informed that there is a sizable Jedi opposition in the training sector. Vader proceeds to the area to find Serra Keto, favorite pupil of Jedi Master Cin Drallig and master of double-saber combat, dispatching clone troopers. After a short battle, Serra is crushed underneath a broken pillar released by Vader, just as Drallig enters the training room. In a climactic last stand of the Jedi, Drallig and Vader duel from the training room to the outside balcony where the destruction of the clone army can truly be witnessed. Finally, just as Drallig seems to have the upper hand, Vader sends his lightsaber straight into Cin's heart, killing him where he stands. The conquest of the Jedi Temple is complete.
Back on Utapau, Obi-Wan is ambushed by his once-loyal clone battalion, and is forced to battle his way through numerous troopers, gun turrets, and clone walkers, ending with a battle against a fully-armed clone gunship. Eventually making his way to his hidden Jedi starship, Kenobi makes contact with Bail Organa and proceeds to dock with his flagship, the Corellian Corvette Tantive IV. Also aboard the corvette is Yoda, who was able to escape assassination on Kashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld.
Organa informs both Yoda and Obi-Wan of an encoded message from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, requesting that all Jedi return to the temple at once. Sensing this to be a trap for any Jedi not destroyed in the Purge, Obi-Wan determines that they must return to Coruscant and shut down the transmission.
Meanwhile, Darth Vader is given his next mission, to travel to Mustafar and "take care" of the Separatist Leaders, thus ending the galactic civil war. Fighting through the elite of the Neimoidian security forces, Vader finally makes his way to the control room, where he proceeds to slaughter the separatist leadership without mercy. Viceroy Gunray escapes with a contingent of guards to his ship, and proceeds to unleash his armament upon Vader. However, Vader proves too powerful and, with a display of acrobatics and force abilities, vanquishes the leader of the confederacy.
At the same time, Obi-Wan and Yoda infiltrate the ruined Jedi Temple. They battle wave after wave of clone troopers, stopping every now and then to survey the damage. Obi-Wan wonders how the clone troopers, who were genetically engineered to simply follow orders, could have perpetrated such destructive and grotesque actions against the Jedi, but Yoda quickly corrects his thinking by noting that many of the Jedi who had fallen in the Temple seemed to be victims of lightsaber attacks.
After dealing with the last clone forces in the temple, including a team of highly agile and menacing clone troopers, Obi-Wan at last ceases the transmission. Preparing to leave with Yoda, Obi-Wan passes by the security computers and is overcome by his tortured need to know what actually happened in the Temple. After only a few seconds, he receives his answer.
Hiding aboard Senator Amidala's cruiser, Obi-Wan travels to Mustafar, where he confronts his former Padawan. The conversation quickly becomes futile, and Obi-Wan realizes what he must do. Both ignite their lightsabers.
Throughout the battle, Obi-Wan does his best to talk sense into his misguided friend, but eventually, he is at a loss for words and sorrowfully accepts his duty. The fight proceeds from the landing platform to the lava control room, where an aggressive attack from Vader destroys the safety controls. From here, the two fight their way out through a corridor, a loading platform, and a bridge, all the while being pelted by projectile lava. Eventually, the integrity of the structures give way, and Obi-Wan and Vader find themselves on a platform in the midst of a river of lava. After a short but fierce battle on the small platform, Obi-Wan backflips to solid ground, advising Vader that it would be unwise to pursue further. Vader criticizes Obi-Wan for underestimating the power of the Dark Side, and attempts an arial assault, only to lose all but his artificial limb to Obi-Wan's lightsaber and roll down the hill towards the lava, screaming in anguish. With his opponent defeated, Obi-Wan takes up his former Padawan's lightsaber and walks away.
[edit] Development
The game was aided in development by Nick Gillard, the stunt coordinator and lightsaber fight trainer for The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. In fact, Nick Gillard's own character from the movie, Cin Drallig, appears in the game as a boss. Also to get an idea of, and to perfect his moves, Hayden Christensen helped the developers on the character of Anakin.
[edit] Single Player Campaign
Anakin Skywalker- The powerful Jedi Knight who is to fulfill the ancient prophecy as the Chosen One. Anakin's fighting style is a combination of strength, agility and recklessness. His attenuation with the Force grants him incredible powers, which only become more destructive as he proceeds down the darker path. Anakin constantly struggles to control his spiraling emotions and desires, but they are slowly getting the better of him...
Obi-Wan Kenobi- The legendary Jedi Master and general of the clone forces. Obi-Wan's fighting style features graceful, sweeping saber blows and quick strikes. His calm and peaceful connection to the Force grants him a number of stunning and powerful abilities. Although no longer the master of Anakin, Obi-Wan still looks upon him as a brother and is constantly troubled by his increasing deviance from the Jedi ways...
[edit] Republic Forces
- Jedi Padawan: A young Jedi-in-training that possesses a lightsaber, but is of little threat to enemy forces due to a lack of knowledge in the Jedi arts.
- Jedi Knight: The Jedi Knight is a trained individual that is adept in the ways of the Force and also in lightsaber combat. They were once negotiators for the Galactic Republic, but after the advent of the Clone Wars, they were pressed into combat as Generals.
- Jedi Sniper: The Jedi Sniper is a specialist in long-range combat with lightsaber throwing, but is lacking in traditional lightsaber-to-lightsaber melee combat. After a Jedi Padawan has completed his/her trials and becomes a Jedi Knight, the Knight has a choice to become a Sniper.
- Jedi Brute: The Jedi Brute is a specialist in the arts of lightsaber combat. They are physically imposing, and possess large strength. After a Jedi Padawan has completed his/her trials and becomes a Jedi Knight, the Knight has a choice to become a Brute. Jedi Brutes normally wield devastating viridian double-bladed lightsabers in combat. They are the main protectors of the Temple, and their strength coupled with their lightsaber makes them indomitable opponents.
- Clone Trooper: The typical frontline Galactic Republic infantryman, a clone of the legendary bounty hunter Jango Fett. In the game, the clone trooper is armed with a DC-15 blaster rifle, although he can also bash an enemy in a melee attack with the butt of his gun.
- Clone Heavy Gunner: The heavy gunner is a derivative of the standard clone trooper. He also sports heavier armor than the clone trooper, and has a large bazooka-like weapon that does significant damage on impact, and also can have a concussive "throw-down" effect.
- Blaze Trooper: The magnificent blaze trooper is the heaviest of Republic soldiers in the game. It has two large scorching flamethrowers that can do a large amount of incendiary damage, sports nearly impervious armor, has a jetpack that allows it to levitate at all times, and can also grapple enemies. A blaze trooper will sustain many lightsaber strikes or blaster bolts before falling.
- Clone Assassin: The clone assassins are by the far the least numerous of clone trooper derivatives in the Revenge of the Sith video game, and are only found in the entire game once: in the level where Obi-Wan and Yoda attack the clone-held Jedi Temple to disable the beacon. They wield viboblades and have extraordinary reflexes that allow them to dodge lightsaber strikes.
Vehicles
- AT-RT Walker: The towering AT-RT is a bipedal reconnaissance walker that sports twin blaster cannons and tough armor that is difficult to penetrate by blasters or lightsabers. They also can trample enemies underfoot.
- LAAT/i Gunship: The LAAT/i gunship is a flying attack ship that is armed in the video game with two wide-bore devastating blaster cannons, and also twin rocket launchers. They are virtually unstoppable with heavy weapons and unlimited ammunition and extremely durable armor.
- Delta-7 Aethersprite Jedi Starfighter: The Jedi Temple also has a vehicles hangar that sports several aging Delta-7 fighters. In the Revenge of the Sith video game, they are armed with twin heavy blasters that are extremely dangerous.
- Republic Cannon Emplacement: Clone troopers often deploy heavy cannon emplacements at strategic points on battlefields to take out pockets of entrenched enemy resistance, enemy vehicles, or low-flying enemy starfighters. They have two barrels that focus the bolts. Press [X] to fire a quick shot, or press [Y] for a slower, but highly charged shot.
[edit] Separatist Forces
Droid Forces
- Battle Droid: The basic B1 C.I.S. infantryman: cheap, dumb, and expendable. However, these spindly robots are rather dangerous even to Jedi in groups with mass fire their E-5 blaster rifles.
- Sniper Droid: The sniper droid is a derivative of the battle droid. They are physically identical, but the sniper is armed with a sniper rifle that can fire from long range and deal heavy damage.
- Super Battle Droid: The B2 super battle droid is an upgraded version of the standard battle droid. It has far stronger armor, and has a heavy blaster built directly into an arm. It also sports a secondary attack where it charges its blaster for heavy damage upon impact. It can also execute a melee attack by smashing an opponent with one of its heavy arms.
- Grapple Droid: The grapple droid is an agile and heavily armored droid that is known for picking up its opponents and literally breaking their backs. Its arms have been upgraded with heavy armor and electrified pincers and emit an energy shield which is capable of deflecting lightsaber attacks. It should be noted that even if one arm has been severed in combat, the other arm is still capable of blocking attacks and damaging its opponent.
- Air Battle Droid: The air battle droid is yet another derivative of the insignificant B1 line. However, it has substantial upper chest armor, and a large jetpack that provides aerodyanamic capabilities. It also has a blaster built into one arm, a vibroblade built into another, and an energy shield that is impervious to lightsaber swipes.
- Droideka: The droidekas are the most fearsome of all Separatist infantry forces. They sport two heavy blaster cannons that have a significant rate of fire and damage-per-shot. Even worse, they have personal deflector shields that can repel incoming blaster fire and lightsaber attacks. They are also armored with bronzium that provides protection even after their shields go down.
- Buzz Droid: The buzz droid is a machine that is normally deployed by orbital tri-fighters that sabotages enemy systems by a bewildering variety of data jacks and cutters. However, they can also be deployed on the ground as light pickets. Like with battle droids, a group of them can overwhelm even Jedi.
- Crab Droid: The monolithic crab droid is a cross between a tank and an infantryman. It has extraordinary armor that makes it nearly invincible against lightsabers or blasters, and its arms can be used to slash infantry and tear open vehicles. The crab droid also has a set of blasters. Although incredibly well-designed, its one major flaw is its lack of vertical defenses, which leave its command module completely vulnerable if attacked from above.
- Grievous Bodyguard (IG-100 series): The IG-100 assassin droid series from Holowan Laboratories were the predecessors to the IG-88 series, and were no less deadly than their derivatives. They were armed with a double-bladed electrostaff made of phrik alloy that was impervious to lightsaber strikes, and had resilient armor underneath that blocked anything that got through their whizzing blades. They were programmed with the Jedi martial arts, and often a single one can overpower a lone Jedi.
Neimoidian Forces
- Neimoidian Guard: The Neimoidian Guard corps serve as the personal protection of their leaders on the fiery planet of Mustafar. Although their armor is weak, they have stun batons that do minor damage, but have a percent chance of stunning their targets. They are dangerous in groups of three or more.
- Neimoidian Sniper: The Neimoidian Sniper is the most highly trained sharpshooter in the Neimoidian Guard. They are armed with sniper rifles that are more powerful than those of droid snipers. Upon impact, they have a fair chance of stunning their target. These snipers can snipe enemies in the middle of fighting from afar, at point-blank, or even when in acrobatic maneuvers.
- Neimoidian Brute: The Neimoidian Brute is the most fearsome and brutish of all of the Neimoidian Guard. Even a single one is extraordinarily dangerous. They are physically impressive: huge and strong, and have gigantic battle axes that inflict heavy damage and also can toss opponents to the ground. They also can pick up stunned enemies, and crack their necks with their axes.
- Sheathipeade-class shuttle Lapiz Cutter: The Lapiz Cutter is the personal shuttle of Nute Gunray. When Anakin Skywalker-turned-Darth Vader assassinates the Separitist leaders, he must shoot down the shuttle. The Lapiz Cutter is armed with a thin-beam laser that has a stun effect, and also a triple torpedo launcher. Both weapon systems have unlimited ammunition.
[edit] Saber Combat
Your survival in this game is heavily dependent on your combat skills, particularly your ability with a lightsaber. Each of the playable characters (with the exception of the IG-100 elite guard) is equipped with at least one lightsaber, and all of the major duels in the game feature saber-on-saber combat.
There are three basic attacks: Fast, Strong, and Critical:
- Fast attacks are simple lightsaber swipes which do light damage and can be used quickly and in succession. They are quickly formulated and quickly recovered from.
- Strong attacks are broader, more sweeping and more powerful attacks which do a medium amount of damage. They take a little more time to execute and recovery is a bit slower.
- Critical attacks are powerful, lunging saber techniques which have the capacity to heavily damage and even dispatch weak and strong enemies alike. They have the longest execution and take a significantly longer time to recover from than the other two attacks.
These attacks can be used in different order and succession to form the many powerful combinations used to destroy your enemies. An in-game combat chart shows the combos your Jedi has unlocked and the different sequences needed to perform them. Mastery of these combinations is critical, especially when engaging more powerful enemies.
As an added boost to the power of your saber strikes, you may charge different segments of your combos by holding down the appropriate button. When charging an attack, combat visibly slows down and your light saber takes on a larger shape and brighter glow. Saber attacks that are partially-charged are more difficult to block, while fully-charged attacks cannot be blocked. The downside of charging is that your opponent can now easily anticipate your move and simply move out of the way, striking you at will. To exit the saber charge, simply release the attack. It is important to use the saber charge only when you are least vulnerable to counter attack.
One final note on offensive maneuvers is the occurrence of the saber lock. If two saber combatants attack each other with a Strong attack at the same time, their sabers will lock, forcing them to try to overpower the other and deliver a punishing combo which will knock their opponent to the ground. When a saber lock occurs, quickly tap the Strong and Fast buttons to overpower your opponent. If you overpower your opponent, the combo is yours. Additionally, there is a set time limit for saber locks. If your character has the upper-hand at the moment this time expires, you are awarded the combo as well, but be aware that the same is true for your opponent if they get the best of you.
In addition to offensive lightsaber techniques, your defensive techniques are of great importance. As a Jedi with the ability to sense eminent danger, your character will automatically deflect a percentage of blaster bolts; however, any player would do well to always be on guard when not attacking. When in the guard position, your character will block all blaster bolts and attempt to block all physical attacks (fully-charged attacks and special maneuvers cannot be blocked, so it is best to dodge them). Additionally, if you are able to deflect a blaster bolt at the same time it connects, you will deflect it back at the gunner, which is known as a "perfect deflection".
While dueling, the guard position also gives you the ability to shunt an opponents attack. Shunts can be performed by simultaneously guarding an attack and moving away or towards the opponent at the same time. There are three types of shunts:
- Basic shunts are simple shunts that lead to an unblockable attack. The defending Jedi or Sith Lord forces the opponent's saber down, knocking them back with a backfist.
- Offensive shunts are blocked attacks that are followed up by a kick or strike. These attacks can be dodged by pressing either the Fast or Strong attack button, and have a 50-50 chance of being countered depending on the button used to initiate the attack.
- Trap shunts are blocked attacks with no counterattack. They have the appearance of an offensive shunt but without the follow-up.
- It should be noted that General Grievous is completely immune to shunts, which appears to be one reason for Obi-Wan's repeated exclamation, "Leave it to a droid to cheat!" (Even though Grievous is a cyborg, not a droid).
The guard position gives the ability to block Force Powers as well. When a power is used against a defending saber combatant, the skill is absorbed by the lightsaber in a translucent blue cloud of energy. Force Stun, Lightning, and Saber Throw are stopped in this way. Force Push will not knock down a guarded opponent, and Force Grip will not connect.
One final advantage of the guard position is the ability to dodge and sidestep attacks quickly. Depending on how long you press the appropriate button, you can actually move completely around your opponent. Count Dooku makes repeated use of this skill, and it is quite effective once mastered.
[edit] Force Combat
All playable characters in the game, with the exception of General Grievous and his Magnaguards, have an additional status bar of Force Energy (General Grievous has this bar, but utilizes it for his special, non-Force maneuvers). Force Energy is used to perform the many abilities that these individuals have learned from years of training with the Force. All Force-adepts have the following abilities at their disposal, no matter their level:
- Force Push - Uses concentrated energy to move objects and opponents back.
- Force Grip - Picks up opponents and objects from a distance, disabling them and allowing them to be thrown.
- Force Stun/Force Lightning - Force Stun is a Jedi preferred attack that can disable droids or confuse humans into fighting for you when used to a sufficient degree. Force Lightning is the expertise of Sith Lords (including Darth Vader, despite the fact that he never uses it in the films), and is used to inflict pain and destroy opponents.
- Saber Throw - Throws the light saber towards an opponent or object and returns it to you.. The duration of the flight is related to how much energy you have as well as how long you hold down the button. This attack leaves you vulnerable until your saber returns.
- Force Heal - Heals your Force-adept using your own Force Energy.
- Force Dash - Allows your Force-adept to move with heightened speed, leaving a cloud of blue energy in his wake.
Each of these abilities (with the exception of the Force Dash), can be upgraded to more powerful levels. At first, none of your abilities will be very strong or be able to affect very many targets, but higher levels allow for multiple stuns, gripping and throwing larger objects, healing with less energy, striking critically with a well-aimed saber throw, and the ability to destroy droids and knock down mighty Force-adepts with a Force push.
Note that you can target your opponents to be sure that your Force Powers are meeting their intended mark. Refer to your manual to see how this is done, and be sure to utilize this technique, as it will surely save you time and energy.
One must take care to monitor the Force Energy bar to determine when the appropriate abilities can be performed. Force Energy is used by both combat and force maneuvers alike, as well as non-combat Force Jumps and Pushes which manipulate the environment to advance your mission. Force Energy regenerates over time.
An expert saber combatant would do well to incorporate Force abilities into his arsenal, as they can be the difference between victory and defeat in battle.
[edit] Physical Combat
Aside from saber combat and force powers, each character has a number of physical attacks that can be incorporated into combos. Nearly all characters have a kick which can instantly floor opponents. A number of characters also have the ability to punch their opponents (Obi-Wan has a uppercut at his disposal).
The main physical offensive maneuver is the grapple. At first, your character can only throw, hit, or kick their opponent once they are grappled, but with experience, you'll be able to perform devastating combos which can instantly destroy a number of lesser opponents and quickly drain the life bar of your tougher adversaries. Note that your dueling opponents will be able to grapple you as well, and each has their own combos with which to devastate you. If you find yourself in the throes of a grapple, quickly tap the Strong and Fast attack buttons to break out of it. Be aware that your opponents can escape from your grapples using this method.
If your opponent isn't submitting to the grapple, another close-proximity maneuver is the kick-off strike, which is performed by pressing the critical attack button and jump button simultaneously while near an opponent. Your character will kick-off from the opponent into the air, and then descend in style with a grounding saber strike. An effective, if not entertaining, maneuver.
Flying kicks seem to be a technique learned by all force-adepts. When running towards an opponent, press the jump and attack buttons quickly in succession to perform a jump-kick. It should also be noted that if the player shifts the joystick away from the opponent while pressing the strong attack button on the third strike of a combo, he performs a kick, which if charged will instantly knock the opponent to the ground.
The last physical combat maneuver that requires mention is the jump. Force-adepts can jump higher and farther than average beings, and jumping allows access to powerful light saber combinations and Force Powers. Do not overlook jumping as a solution when you are trying to defeat your enemies or overcome obstacles in your path.
[edit] Game Environment
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith features a complex game environment that is wholly interactive. Many objects and structures can be brought down by a lightsaber, and simply moving too close to a wall will cause your saber to leave a mark.
As you guide your Force-adept through space cruisers and planetary structures, you'll notice that you have the power to manipulate much of your environment. This includes simple actions, such as picking up and throwing small containers, to focusing and using your concentrated Force-energy to control large objects in your path.
Force-combatants are masters of their surroundings and consistently make use of it to achieve their goals. It is possible to pick up containers, explosive tanks, statues, rock, and even the very ground itself and hurl them at opponents. If all else fails, remember that enemies themselves make very good stones to throw at other enemies.
During the course of a mission, there will be locked doors and secure panels that require access. Depressing the critical attack will cause your Force-adept to drive his lightsaber into the target. From there, simply direct the saber's path to destroy or remove the barrier. Note that you will be vulnerable to enemy attack while performing this action. To stop at any time, release the button.
When the situation requires it, your Force-adept will need to perform more powerful Force-maneuvers. A glowing icon will appear on the ground and either your character or their support will bring to your attention the need to perform one of the following actions:
- Force Jump - Your Force-adept will focus their energy to undertake an impressive leap, traversing great distances or reaching incredible heights.
- Force Tactics - Encompassing a great number of feats specific to the current situation, your Force-adept can lift and move massive objects, hold open and rip apart entryways, and cause general destruction on a grand scale.
To perform the Force Jump, press the jump button while positioned in the glowing icon. Force Tactics can be performed by pressing the general Force Push/Grip button. Your character must possess at least one-quarter of his maximum Force-energy to successfully perform either feat. If you fail, you simply lose the amount of time spent focusing your energy. If you succeed, you are treated to a cinematic displaying the results of your actions.
One final topic in game environment is the manipulation of artillery, both Republic and Confederate. As you progress, it will become necessary to attack using laser and cannon turrets. To target, simply move the directional pad or stick. When you're target is in the crosshairs, they will light up. Proceed to destroy the target. It should be noted that whatever combat rating (see below) you have when entering the turret will be the rating applied to every kill. If possible, try to achieve a high rating before using the machine, as these large targets are worth quite a bit of experience points.
[edit] Upgrades
When playing the game as Anakin or Obi Wan, the character develops as he learns new moves and increases his power. When Anakin turns to the dark side, his Force Stun power is replaced with Force Lightning. While a fully upgraded Force Stun is able to affect multiple opponents, Force Lightning only has one initial victim; however, after a short amount of time the bolts will be conducted by other opponents in the vicinity of the first victim. It should also be noted that Force Stun has an automatic shut-off when the victim(s) have been stunned. Force Lightning, on the other hand, will only stop when the player manually stops, when the player's force energy is depleted, or when the victim is defeated.
Combat techniques and upgrades in Force powers can be done at the end of every level. The amount of upgrading depends on the amount of experience the player receives after completing the level. Experience depends on the type of opponent defeated. You are awarded more experience for more difficult opponents. Depending on your combat rating at the time of the kill, you may receive a bonus multiplier to the amount of experience received for dispatching an enemy. The four combat ratings are as follows:
- Fair - Less than one third of your experience bar is filled, and you receive no bonus with every enemy you defeat.
- Good - Between one and two thirds of your experience bar is filled, and you are awarded a small bonus for each opponent that falls.
- Impressive - Between full and two thirds of your experience bar is filled, and you reap the spoils of a medium bonus for each adversary you strike down.
- Masterful - The experience bar is completely filled, and you receive a large bonus for your victories. When you have reached this level, your experience bar glows and all of your basic attacks become unblockable, even against saber combatants. You deal additional damage to more powerful opponents and dispatch smaller enemies with the greatest of ease. After some time, your experience bar will empty, so it is to your benefit to defeat as many enemies as possible when you have reached this level.
The rating is directly related to the type of attack used to dispatch your opponent. Fast attacks will develop your rating slowly, while strong attacks will develop your rating quickly. Critical attacks will develop your rating expediently, but are slow and difficult to land. Note that you gain an increase in your combat rating for any attack that makes contact, whether it is defected or hits its mark.
Any damage you receive will deplete your total rating. Note that some attacks deplete your rating faster than others. For example, a single laser shot from a battle droid won't affect your rating much, while a full frontal laser assault from a super battle droid will bring you down completely in a matter of seconds. It should also be noted that any attacks from an enemy lightsaber, whether blocked or not, will lower your experience level. Therefore, it helps to dodge your opponent completely or unleash a punishing amount of lightsaber attacks if you wish to gain the highest rating possible when defeating a Jedi Master or Sith Lord. Lastly, your rating will diminish depending on the amount of time spent not attacking an opponent.
Your ratings for dispatched enemies will tally at the end of the level to receive a certain amount of experience. There is also an experience cap for the amount of experience that can be gained per level. Experience can be used to upgrade...

Special Combat Techniques
- While the controls are different for each system, it is possible to cause Anakin or Obi-Wan to twirl their lightsabers at incredible speeds, thus performing a "perfect deflection" of any blaster bolts and injuring any opponents who attack during this maneuver. This ability uses Force Energy and should be used sparingly.
- It is possible to use Force Stun and Force Lightning while you have an opponent or object in a Force Grip. Although Force Stun will not cause very much damage to the opponent, Force Lightning has the effect of hanging and electrocuting the victim at the same time. It should be noted that this maneuver depletes the user's Force Energy twice as quickly.
- It is also possible to break a Force Grip and Force Stun while locked in its throes. Simply tap the same buttons used to prevail in a saber lock. If you successfully break it before being thrown or stunned, a cloud of energy will emanate from you and your opponent will be stunned momentarily. This same cloud of energy can be seen if you perform this maneuver when completely stunned, although your opponent will not be affected.
- Advanced critical attacks are only "critical" if the opponent does not have enough health to survive the maneuver. Therefore, even Jedi Masters and Sith Lords will succumb to a critical attack if they are about to perish.
- Successfully blocking a Force Power will drain your Force Energy as well, so be aware of your status after such an attack.
[edit] Secrets
There is no way to increase your maximum health and energy bars by leveling up. To accomplish this goal, you need to find a number of secret items located in the game. These items are often hidden, but the Force-sensitive mind of a Jedi will usually be disturbed by its presence, and they will let you know if they have "felt something." Two of these items directly affect your status, and one will affect your experience rating:
- Health Surges glow a brilliant shade of red and endow the finder with expanded health and endurance.
- Force Surges glow a dazzling shade of blue and gift the finder with greater focus and a higher concentration of Force Energy.
- Saber Crystals glow a sparkling shade of green and immediately bestow upon the Jedi the combat rating of Masterful, making him the bane of his enemies.
After each mission ends, the number of secrets you acquired will be revealed, as well as the number that remain. You would do well to replay missions to maximize the statistics of your Jedi for the journey ahead.
[edit] Single Player Bonus Missions
With the successful completion of certain missions in the single player campaign, you can unlock the following bonus scenarios:
General Grievous' Bodyguard (IG-100 series) - You are a member of the elite team of IG-100s faced with the challenge of defeating the attacking clone armada on Utapau...
General Grievous - With the arrival of the attacking clone forces on Utapau, you make a hasty retreat to your ship, only to find yourself and your droids engaged in battle...
Yoda - While searching the fallen Jedi Temple for survivors, you find yourself surrounded by a contingent of clone troopers who think of you as nothing but target practice...
Anakin Skywalker - In pursuit of the Separatist Leadership on Mustafar, you navigate the perilous lava platforms while facing the wrath of the Neimoidian elite guard...
Darth Vader - Aboard the Death Star, you sense the presence of your former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and you quickly move to have your revenge...
[edit] Cooperative Missions
There are four cooperative missions where you can join together to defeat your enemies. The first few team up Anakin and Obi-Wan for a number of offensive encounters with the droid army, while the Jedi Master Cin Drallig and his favorite student, Serra Keto, come together to defeat the clone squadron bent on destroying the Jedi Temple. There is no bonus for completing these missions, but they are a good opportunity to test your skills.
[edit] Multiplayer
A Part of the Game Where the Player Choose's a character and battles another Player. The Characters Are:
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Anakin Skywalker
- Count Dooku
- General Grievous
- Mace Windu
- Cin Drallig
- Serra Keto
- Darth Vader, circa Episode IV
- Ben Kenobi, circa Episode IV
To access the multiplayer dueling, you must unlock each of the characters in the Single Player Campaign. Anakin and Obi-Wan are unlocked with the completion of the first mission, while the rest of the characters unlocked by defeating them in respective missions in which they appear. Darth Vader, in full Sith Armor, and Ben Kenobi in his more wizened form are unlocked after defeating Obi-Wan Kenobi with Vader in the final mission, "The Revenge of the Sith".
Each battle can be won with either the best of one, three or five rounds, depending on the options chosen. In addition, all characters have equal health and energy, with all status upgrades acquired by Anakin and Obi-Wan eliminated to balance the fight against the other opponents. However, all of the upgraded techniques and Force Powers are available to you, and each of the other characters has special abilities and maneuvers which can be viewed by accessing the in-game combat chart.
In addition to the original costumes found throughout the Single Player Campaign, each character has a different costume in the event of a battle against oneself. Many of the characters have interesting alternate costumes, most notably Jedi characters alternately dressed as Sith Lords, complete with red lightsabers.
[edit] Special Ending
The original ending of the film, and consequently, the game, portrays Obi-Wan having the "high ground" over Anakin on a lava bank. When Anakin attempts to leap over Obi-Wan and attack him, Obi-Wan cuts off a number of Anakin's limbs, knocking him to the ground. However, in the final level of the video game (unlocked after completion of the previous level), appropriately titled "The Revenge of the Sith," the player is given the opportunity to play as Anakin against Obi-Wan. Unlike the film, however, Obi-Wan is killed, being ran through from behind by Anakin's lightsaber.
Anakin then returns to Darth Sidious, receiving a new lightsaber of Sith design in the process. Acting quickly, he slays his former master and declares himself ruler of the galaxy.
[edit] Noted Differences Between the Game and the Movie
The following differences between the game and film have been noted by the fans:
- In the game, more of the Jedi are slaughtered during Order 66, because you play as Anakin, exterminating Knights and Padawan alike. The first Jedi to die at the Temple are the guards by the door, whom Anakin Force chokes so he can pass through.
- The game shows Jocasta Nu's death sequence. Nu is killed when Vader orders her to provide access to the signal beacon, and she resists. She ignites her saber only to be lifted into the air by a Force Grip. Vader then ignites his lightsaber and pulls her towards it, impaling her and killing her instantly.
- In the movie, PadmƩ is a main driving force of Anakin's turn to the dark side, yet the game almost completely omits her. She is mentioned only once, near the end, when during combat in the Control Room, Anakin shouts this quote to Obi-wan: "You turned PadmƩ against me."
- In the climactic moment of the game, when Obi-Wan has the higher ground, Vader responds with "you underestimate the power of the Dark Side". In the movie, however, the line is "You underestimate my power.".
The following battles were expanded for the game:
- The search for the Chancellor on the battleship.
- The search for General Grievous on Utapau
- Obi-wan's final confrontation with Grievous
- Anakin's betrayal of Mace Windu
- Vader's destruction of the Jedi Temple
- Obi-Wan's escape from Utapau
- Vader's pursuit and assassination of the Separatist Leadership on Mustafar
- Obi-Wan's and Yoda's infiltration of the compromised Temple
The following battles were omitted from the game:
- All space combat (with the exception of the aforementioned consoles)
- Mace Windu's duel with Chancellor Palpatine
- Yoda's escape from Kashyyyk
- Yoda's confrontation with Palpatine
[edit] Trivia
- One of Mace Windu's in-game taunts mirrors a line of Samuel L. Jackson's from the movie Pulp Fiction: "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance..." Samuel L. Jackson plays Windu in the movie.
- When dueling Serra Keto in the Jedi Temple there are three hologram Jedi that continually repeat the Jedi Code. If the three are damaged in the fray, they garble the code, so it becomes the much more sinister:
- A Jedi knowsā¦ANGER
- A Jedi shallā¦HATE
- There isā¦NOā¦peace
- Knowledge isā¦PASSION
- DEATH is the Force
- The cover art shows an inaccurate picture of Anakin Skywalker un-gloved, with his human right hand still intact.
- Consistent with canon, once Darth Vader gains his suit, he should be missing a large portion of his skeletal system. If one uses Force Lightning on Vader in the duel mode, however, the bones of his lost limbs are present.
- When Darth Vader's health drops below a certain point, the sound of his breathing becomes labored and more mechanized as the result of damage to his life support system.
- If Anakin uses Force Lightning to defeat the Jedi Masters or Sith Lords, the cinematic which occurs after the "death blow" will sometimes show a cloud of smoke emanating from the opponent. The only character this will not work against is Obi-Wan (in the alternate ending), as the cinematic is preloaded and not tied to the state of the opponent at the end of the battle.
- When in duel mode, many of the characters have unique abilities, such as:
- Force Choke - The signature technique of Darth Vader. The opponent is lifted into the air and, with a crack, has his neck broken by the Dark Lord.
- Dual-Saber Toss - Serra Keto launches both of her lightsabers at her opponent.
- 1,000 Slashes - Cin Drallig lunges forward with a flurry of saber swipes and finishes with a final blow that floors the opponent.
- Whirlwind Strike - Count Dooku cuts his opponent with a saber spin.
- Force Submission - Reminiscent of Episode IV, Ben Kenobi lifts his saber and surrenders to the will of the Force. If struck immediately, he meets a fate similar to that in the movie, and the match is lost. If not attacked, his health drains completely, and any successful attack is fatal.
