[edit] Wikiproject: Tyne and Wear

I wouldn't mind helping with this, but the link you left on my talk page doesn't seem to work. What's the correct link? Dominie 18:39, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Hope i can edit here. I have created a shortcut to your project. WP:T&W. Simply south 13:54, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] VP speed (copied from VP pages)

I massively improved the speed of reverts by taking a hatchet to the vandalism.log file. What I did was (i) copy it (ii) open it in an editor and hack out all except the top warning (it seems to be formatted as a wiki markup table) (iii) save, exit, start VP. Mr Stephen 19:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Boris kraljevic

Hullo again. Please read up on the use of {{copyvio}} to tag possible copyright violations. You can't just slap it on an article that you think looks like a cut and paste job. You must follow the procedure for reporting suspected copyright problems, of which the copyvio template is only the first part. Additionally, pages should be blanked when the template is applied, to reduced the potential audience of copyright-violating material, and the url= param must be included, and point to the source of the material.

Please note also that blatant copyvios can (if conditions are met) now be speedied (CSD G12). I think it's been that way since before you registered!

I notice also that you've just recently been brought up short by User:Jerzy for wading into the List of People by Name. Perhaps he was a bit uncivil, but the lesson is to read around before being bold in an area you're unfamiliar with. The same applies to using templates you're not experienced with, like {{copyvio}}. Always read the documentation of a template you're using for the first time. Thanks. — mholland 20:47, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My Change to Wisconisn on the NCFCA club section

I am part of that club that I was editing and I just want the right info up there. I was not trying to put stuff up that would hurt the credibility of wikipwdia in any way. The state is now one club and I was trying to put taht on there and I was trying to make the Link look more profesional.

[edit] Wiki cartoon

Here's an idea. I'm going to select a number of famous users on Wikipedia, vandals and contributors. To make a fun little wiki cartoon. About Jimbo Wales and some famous wiki admins and contributors, fighting against frequent vandals and their armies of sockpuppets, but rather like in a real enivroment not just the encyclopedia. Here's some users I want to select for the cartoon. Any ideas come to my talk page

Contributors (famous wiki contributors)

  • Jimbo Wales
  • Persian Poet Gal
  • Glen S
  • Alphachimp
  • Hussond
  • Can't sleep clown will eat me
  • Pascal.Tesson

Vandals (famous wiki vandals and their hundreds of socks)

  • Willy on Wheels
  • Cplot
  • Gibraltarian
  • Emoots of trolls
  • Molag bal

What do you think? Retiono Virginian 15:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

There is a problem. A few days ago, I posted this message onto the talk page of Jimbo Wales, mfor him, and other people to see. However this particular user User:Durova has gave an opinion that my ideas are trolling, intimidating, and is designed to make a complete joke of Jimbo Wales. But it is more serious as a cartoon than a joke; while also portraying that I'm a vandal. I'm not however, and I would like you to help me persuade him that I'm doing this as a practical help for wikipedia. Retiono Virginian 13:08, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm thinking of creating a humorus project page about this. Will they allow it? Retiono Virginian 13:21, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm dicussing the idea of the cartoon at Wikipedia:Department of Fun on its talk page. Here everyone can access it and I can perhaps get it established into Wikipedia. Retiono Virginian 19:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:66.76.60.2

Hi Tellyaddict, that user doesn't stop vandalizing though being warned several times. Could you block the address infinitely, please? Thanks, --Nina 15:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I tried to make an abuse report about this IP here, but it doesn't seem to work, I dont see the entry on the main page. Can you help me with this? --Nina 18:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I want this IP to be blocked permanently without further warning and without any more discussions. It contributed nothing but vandalism, and I cannot believe that its still not blocked. Giving IPs one last warning after the other is really ridiculous. Where can I report an IP so that it gets _blocked unbureaucraticly_? --Nina 07:49, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:170.161.64.16 Vandalism

Dear Tellyaddict, User:170.161.64.16 earlier today vandalized Mao Zedong. I went to his talk page and saw that earlier today you also gave him his last warning. Can you please block him for me, if you can't can you please tell an administrator to block him. Thanks. Sincerely, Psdubow 17:50, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Re: User:170.161.64.16 Vandalism

How come we can't submit him to get blocked yet? His edits to Mao Zedong went unnoticed though. I don't really get that. Well, anyway, I'll take your word for it. If I see him do anymore vandalism., I'll alert you. Thanks. Psdubow 18:03, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I just checked out his talk page (User talk:170.161.64.16), he vandalized earlier today (Feb. 15). Can you please tell an admin to block him, becuase I'm sure you know more admins then me? Thanks! Psdubow

[edit] Article "Ashley Bloor"

I would appreciate it a lot if this article could be deleted instantly. This is due to me being Ashley Bloor and it is created by my so-called friends who are trying to have a laugh at my expense. This is the second time an article has been posted about me by the user Trialsboysam, Therefore I would be greatly thankful if something could be done.

Much appreciated Asheroo

[edit] Your oppose in Firefoxman's RfA

Sorry I'm just now getting around to replying. I didn't think it was so terrible, but I (and probably the others) am trying to counter the upward creep of RFA standards and you inevitably got caught up in the reaction (there and in your editor review, I see). If there's one thing easier than telling an RFA candidate why they shouldn't be an admin, it's telling an opposer why you disagree with their reasoning. We could argue for days... Anyhow, keep up the good countervandalism work. I hope to see you as an RFA candidate in the future.--Kchase T 12:10, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Farringdon, London

Just to note, this area is part of the city of London, not the Newcastle\Sunderland area. Therefore, i am going to change the template to the correct project. Simply south 13:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Thats ok. I think i made that sound a bit harsh but am not meaning it as a criticism. Simply south 13:05, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
My RfA i am leaving for now because i mainly want to still get used to templating and feel this is an essential skill. I think it may happen in the near future. I suppose another thing that is on my mind is setting up WPTIS properly. (I wonder if the proposal of that project is unique in a different way) Simply south 13:12, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ashnard page

I think unsalvagebley incoherent is a little harsh, I will try to make it better, I'm sorry, but I'm new here and was just trying to contribute to a non-existant topic. Please advise me on what to do. Ashnard talk 14:18, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:67.161.84.193

I noticed you removed a notice I posted to this user's talk page. Might I ask why? In all my experience with Wikipedia (almost a year now), I have always been told/always read that talk pages were not to have content removed, so they could serve as archives. I have added back the comment. I'll be watching this page. Thanks! — Tuvok [T @ lk/Improve me] 20:33, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject:Tyne and Wear

Hi Tellyaddict,

I'm not from Tyne and Wear, but would be happy to help out with the project. I've actually considered creating a simillar Wikiproject for Greater Manchester (of which I free admit contributing to with considerable significance) - perhaps they could be sister projects at some point?

Given I'm not from the area, I'm afraid my contribution would be somewhat limited, particularly on local issues and customs. However I'd be happy to help with general formatting, style guides, facts and figures.

Tyne and Wear itself needs quite alot of work. Do you have any plans for this in the immediate future? Jhamez84 22:03, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 3RR

Perhaps I ought not to join Tyne and Wear WikiProject. If you re-read the policy, 3RR is redundant in this case as the disruptive user (a chronic offender) was not only in multiple breach of policy (WP:V, WP:NOT, WP:RS, WP:CIV), there was an overwhelming consensus and number of users trying to remove the offending nonsense from the articles. Furthermore, I only performed one group of three edits to the same effect, and two edits to a different effect. Thanks for the support however. Jhamez84 21:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: ?

Please see this. I went to sleep a couple of hours after it happened. Real96 16:20, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response to post on my talk page

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate the reasons you mentioned but just personally believe this could be done without the need to change the underlying structure of the project. IMHO it makes no difference what the project is called; Durham and Northumberland articles could be added regardless - project scopes change often but the names don't (because of the impact a name-change has). I appreciate it if you want to do it anyway, and I admire your attention to detail. I am also glad you recognise that this is just my opinion and it is not a personal moan at anyone - I will try to help out where I can - though I feel my time will be better spend collecting and assessing articles into the project. John the mackem 22:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Simplest solution would be to change the text on the talk page template to say "North East England" but leave the project pages and assesment category pages as they are. A message at the top of the project page stating that the scope has since widened should alleviate any confusion - and this can all be done with minimal effort. John the mackem 22:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hey, a question

My friend really needs help, and I thought you may know. (I saw that you had helped him previously and that you were probably more experienced than I.) Are you certain of the policies about Character Artwork? It seems that many of the images on Wikipedia were retrieved from the web. These images seem to cite the URL as their source. What are the specific rules regarding this? Thanks. Peregrine 22:01, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP 1.0 bot

Hi there, I noticed you run a bot in which updates the information and statistics for tables informing users of the number of good articles/featured articles/class A and class B etc articles. I did this once and find it extremely boring and difficult to do and I noticed that your bot updates daily on Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland. Well i would just like to know how I could sign to get this Bot to help, I am the creator of WikiProject Tyne and Wear and I would really like to sign up for this bots help as the job is extremely boring to do manually. Could you please tell me if and how I can sign up for this bots help as soon as possible. Thanks and could you please reply on my talk page.TellyaddictEditor review! 12:28, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Baron & Budd Script Memo controversy

Two people have flatly stated that the topic is not notable. But when I look at the WP:NN guidelines, they say A topic is notable if it has been the subject of reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself. By that definition, this topic is notable; it also meets each of the five subparts of the definition of notability. Notability is not subjective. Can someone who is arguing that it is not notable provide an objective argument for the claim of non-notability? I ask in good faith; I'm trying to understand the objection. -- TedFrank 18:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mistake?

Hi Tellyaddict,

I am not a registered user of wikipedia, and have never edited an article therein, however, I am recieving messages (when I use browse wiki to look things up) in the form of a yellow/orangish bar ("new messages (last change)) that seem to imply that I am editing something, maliciously no less. The IP address listed, 64.52.58.130, is not mine, so I'm not sure why I'm getting these messages. Just wanted to let you know. If you have any questions for me, email me at woodenlunch@yahoo.com.

[edit] Please explain your revert

The page you have reverted was NOT vandalized and it is exactly as it should be. 69.116.234.208 14:32, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

You did add sections and stuff but in the proccess you removed valuable information about the topic even though you added some, remember on talk pages to keep calm and remain civil, there is no need to capitalise words as you did above. You also undid my revision on the page and put reverted vandalism. I am under no circumstances a vandal/troll on wikipedia. I have approaching 8,000 edits on wikipedia, as-wel as this you seem to have often deleted warnings and/or messages from your talk page without permission which have been reverted so they still appear (I saw this from the page history), for guidleines see WP:TPG#T7 and the rest of the page. [edit] Copyrights on US Army materials

Greetings! I note that on 14 February you indicated a page contained copyrighted material from a US Army website [1]. Please note that in the vast, vast majority of cases material from United States government websites is, by federal law, in the public domain. Thus, there is no copyright on the material located at http://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/crandall/profile/index.html. The original poster did a cut/paste job that needed to be cleaned up (I have since reposted it and cleaned it up), but the material was free to use on Wikipedia. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 18:21, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Who are you and what do you want?

You have reverted my edits again in my talk page and please be informed that I have thousands of edits as well. The page you accuse me of vandalising has NEVER been vandalized but you seem to maintain your claim. I have never ever vandalized any page on wikipedia or else. Your attitude is VERY VERY strange to me given that you keep the need to come on my talk page and write misleading and erroneous things. I really do not know your objectives and your connections, if any. I do not know what prompts you to act the way you do towards me and make totallly FALSE accusation. I do not know why you try to portray me in a negative way. All I know is what you say and what you did is unjust and unfounded. I notice that you mention English Google hits as a reason for declining that submission. A purely Japanese phenomenon isn't going to have a lot of English Google hits. (I didn't submit the article on AfC, I was just trying to correct the AfC footer when I noticed). In addition, WP:IDONTKNOWIT isn't a synonym for non-notability. ColourBurst 16:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I think so much.To tell the truth,I wrote "Kobe Style". Now I think that it may be better to write about only fashion event in Kobe, but I don't understand the reason of "Declined" is "English Google hits" .Google is a standard of Wikipedia articles? So, how do you think about "Gyaru-oh" ? It's article have been already at Wikipedia english version. What is difference with "Kobe Style" and "Gyaru-oh" ? I hope that is not only a difference knowing it. Please your opinion. 202.33.162.69 03:48, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:RFA

I actually think you are ready to go up for RFA again now, I doubt there's any reason they would oppose you now. You have more edits than some of the admins. Retiono Virginian 16:56, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you, Retiono Virginian. Telly, if you want a nom, I'm here ;-) Happy Editing by Snowolf(talk)CONCOI on 17:02, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I actually hope to go up for RFA one day, I have a big urge to be an admin, just like you. I reckon the use of the tools could help me stop vandals even further. Retiono Virginian 17:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please see my new comment on UCfD.

Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 16:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, you'll probably have to update your comment. So sorry. :) Xiner (talk, email) 17:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit count

Well, I can be proud of myself now, I have made 1000 quality edits to wikipedia, I would make myself now not a newbie but an established wikipedian, as I've been here nearlly two months. Retiono Virginian 18:36, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Still Reigning

Your concerns have been answered here, I'd appreciate if you'd take your time to re-review the article for GA status. Thanks. Michaelas10 (Talk) 17:16, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

All sections are 2-4 paragraphs which is average and definitely not overwhelmingly long. Also, to which subsections do you propose to split them? I consider it quite strange you've decided to fail this GA solely due to this. Michaelas10 (Talk) 18:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I fail to see how splitting two perfectly sized and on-topic sections to subsections will help here. Although I didn't necessarily make significant contributions to the article myself, it is my responsibility on behalf of the WikiProject to ensure GA nominations would pass as smoothly as possible while receiving constructive criticisms. I truly hope you'd reconsider. Michaelas10 (Talk) 18:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

A good article review has been opened here. You're welcome to give your opinion. Michaelas10 (Talk) 22:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alibutt004 username

I disagree about your objection to this name. Ali is a very common Pakistani name, and Butt is a common surname/Tribal name. Unless the user's name is not Ali Butt, it should probably be allowed, even though it may seem offensive to Western users. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 18:14, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

I wish to be adopted. I am a new editor to Wikipedia and would like some help.

[edit] Revert on the Hayfield entry

Why have you reverted some edits I made to the Hayfield entry? I added a picture, and tidied up the History section. Yet your VP (??) software seems to have reverted them. 172.215.15.6 18:05, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ISO

Why did you not feel that "in search of" belonged there? It's not a definition per se it's just something else which ISO stood for, this would be especially helpful for a foreigner or something. 201.21.96.49 19:05, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Did you revert it on purpose, or was this one of the many "automatic" actions Wikipedian editors do stop vandalism? I don't feel like changing it now and in general it quite is annoying for people to ASSUME something is vandalism by using some kind of 'bot "to correct" people than actually READING what people type. 201.21.96.49 03:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Saturday_011.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Saturday_011.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 21:49, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for your kind words on the editor review. I am overjoyed about what you said, and yes; I removed that bit about the genius, I seen it as a little dodgy myself, and like you; I have a dire need to become a sysop in future. But I need to work a little on my reversions, as sometimes I've accidently restored vandalism when cleaning it up; oops. Retiono Virginian 16:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I could always be adopted by you. Even though I'm an established wikipedian, because like, you will always be here for longer than me, and be more experienced, so there's always someway you could help me out. Retiono Virginian 16:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFA

Hi Tellyaddict, I believe your time has come. [4]

Oh, I can tell a few editors, who are friends of yours, to support you in your RFA. For instance; all your adoptees, plus Nishkid64, who I believe will support you. But as the nominator, am I allowed to support you? Retiono Virginian 21:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:AFC

Hi Tellyaddict. Your help at AFC is greatly appreciated, but if I could give a few tips:

  1. When declining articles, try to use the proper templates: Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Templates. It greatly reduces WP:BITE issues (these templates are very good at saying "no" in a polite way), and it gives a uniform message.
  2. Some of the articles you are turning down clearly seem to pass notability guidelines. I encourage you to look closer into the articles before you turn them down: I was just getting done creating the article El Fandi when I see that you declined it because he's a local hero. However, he's one of the top bullfighters in Spain as well, which makes him akin to something like Ernie Els. He's clearly notable.

Thanks for your help, and please do continue to contribute. Part Deux 20:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Addicted to..

Your name indicated you like to watch a lot of television. Is that correct? BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, contribs, odometer) 00:00, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Great!

I'm glad you changed your mind, Tellyaddict. By the way, should I block your other account? Nishkid64 17:59, 10 March 2007 (UTC) Please note, Nishkid64 added this comment so when I restored my user talk page (me as Tellyaddict) it removed this so I'm re-adding it!

[edit] RFA

Well, what a mess! ;-) However, I'm sure that you would have been a good admin. I hope you'll follow the advices given to you in the RFA and I'm sure you'll quickly manage to solve 'em. Have a nice day, and happy editing! Snowolf (talk) CON COI - 19:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Good to see you back. Whether you edit as Tellyaddict or Aquasplash, address the concerns of those who opposed you and you'll maybe succeed the next time you're nominated. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, contribs, odometer) 00:10, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
A failed rfa isn't everthing. I think you could do a great job, and better succeed next time. Address the concerns of opposers and you'll be on your way in no time! Canadianshoper 01:31, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad you decided to stay. It would be a shame to lose your account over an RfA. Better luck next time! :-) - Anas Talk? 11:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Tellyaddict, I'm glad you're sticking around as-is, rather than "starting over", because (as I said) I feel if you keep working at your current production & learning curve, I'll gladly support your future adminship. I wouldn't be surprised if, in two or three months, you had readily dealt with many of the criticisms that prevented the RfA from passing. For what it's worth, I had no qualms with you stating a desire for adminship early, I was merely held back by edits only a month old that didn't have the grasp of policy I feel an admin should have. Keep up the good work (your vandal-fighting is top-notch), participate in some policy & guideline discussions, and cool your heels on Category:Cleanup when you get too wrapped up in dafcon levels. :) Happy editing, Scientizzle 05:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of content

If it wasn't clear, I removed the content about a "problem" child because it was bogus - it's something that was identified as bogus elsewhere (on wikinews), which I cited. So it's not in any way "personal" - it's a joke. Wikipedia isn't a nasty place - it's a place where we respect people who want to help, and remove postings that pretend to be serious but are not.

And I'm unclear what you're suggesting regarding Wikinews, which is a separate project; you can do what you want there, but you'll need to justify any changes to the pages there with the editors there. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 22:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Why would you think it's real? The page I linked to, on wikinews, has the identical text. I didn't go through the page history to determine when that text was added, but it clearly was in 2006 or earlier. So someone took old text and pasted it, word-for-word, into the Wikipedia help page, no doubt looking to play people for suckers. (The alternative, that this is the real mother, asking for advice - after many months, or years, at the Help desk, is, to put it bluntly, rather remote.)

I don't remove text at whim; I've been around enough, if you look at my edits and time here, to be fully aware that that we should respect the postings of others who are sincere. I recommend that in the future you fully understand a situation before you take it upon yourself to apologize to a user who is essentially a vandal. (Quite frankly, I suggest you delete your own posting as an error.) -- John Broughton (♫♫) 23:00, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

In what way am I a vandal? Retiono Virginian 12:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Humor

I was not making fun of that person on the wikipedia help desk. I was actually being humorus, saying HA. Does not break against civility. If this caused disruption, I apologize, and I will not behave like that on the help desk again; but remember, I am not as experienced as you; and there are ways you can still help me. Retiono Virginian 12:43, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you very much for the barnstar. It's much appreciated. Glad I could help in reverting the vandalism on your userpage. Also nice to see that you've come back after the events surrounding the RfA. I'm sure you'll succeed in the end! Keep up the good work :-) Will (aka Wimt) 19:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
