WANE-TV is a television station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, broadcasting as a CBS affiliate on channel 15. WANE-TV also broadcasts in high-definition on digital channel 31. Its transmitter is located in Fort Wayne. The station is currently owned by LIN TV, which owns 3 other CBS affiliates in Indiana: WISH-TV in Indianapolis, WLFI-TV in Lafayette, and WTHI-TV in Terre Haute.

Originally located in Waterloo, Indiana, with the call letters WINT-TV and with a transmitter near Auburn, Indiana, the station signed on September 26, 1954, as a CBS affiliate, which it still is. Licensed to serve Angola, Indiana, the station's owners took advantage of peculiarities in FCC rules to direct the signal to Fort Wayne, a circumstance that attracted the attention of Congress and led to changes in how licenses were assigned. The station was purchased by Indiana Broadcasting Company in 1956 and was moved to Fort Wayne. The transmitter, with its 910-foot tower, remained at its rural Auburn location until 1957. Indiana Broadcasting became Corinthian Broadcasting Company in 1957. In 1983, LIN TV purchased WANE-TV along with its sister station WISH-TV in Indianapolis from Belo Corporation. WANE-TV has also won several awards for their news reporting: the Jack R. Howard award in 1998 (drug abuse), the Peabody award in 1999 (organ donation), and the Edward R. Murrow award in 2003 (flooding/sports coverage).

Like most CBS affiliates, WANE-TV carries CBS programming along with local news and syndicated programming. WANE-TV's digital signal features two feeds: the main WANE-TV channel in high definition and weather radar.

[edit] Newscasts

WANE-TV produces five newscasts using three different "news teams" under news director Ted Linn. WANE-TV airs it is live doppler radar and severe weather updates on LWS (Local Weather Station, its weather radar channel), and breaking news as it occurs. Since May of 2005 WANE has taken over as the leader in all newscast according the Nielson Media Research.

WANE-TV's morning news team consists of Mark Mellinger, Terra Brantley, Greg Shoup on weather, and Natalie Jones on traffic. There are two newscasts on weekday mornings, NewsChannel 15 First News, and NewsChannel 15 Midday. Traffic reports are generally omitted from the midday newcast. Greg Shoup was originally the meteorologist for rival WISE-TV, but he came to WANE-TV after the consolidation of WISE-TV with WPTA.

WANE-TV's evening news team consists of David Scott, Heather Herron, Sandy Thompson on weather, and Randy Schiffman on sports. There are three evening newscasts on weekdays, NewsChannel 15 First at 5, NewsChannel 15 at 6, and NewsChannel 15 Nightcast at 11. Sports are generally omitted from the five o'clock newscast.

WANE-TV's weekend news team consists of Jennifer Cross, Doug Moats on weather, and Pat Hoffman on sports. There are no morning newscasts on weekends, only evening newscasts. The newscasts follow a similar pattern to the weekday evening newscasts, omitting the five o'clock program.
