[edit] Song Meaning
In a March 2007 interview with MTV.com, Chester Bennington had this to say about the song: "Joe Hahn came up to Mike and I and asked us to take the whole idea of Minutes to Midnight and apply that to how the band has changed. So, in a way, it's us saying goodbye to how we used to be...The lyrics in the first verse are 'In this farewell, there's no blood, there's no alibi,' and right away, you'll notice that the band sounds different: The drums are much more raw, the guitars are more raw and the vocals aren't tripled. It's just us out there ... and that's how Rick wanted it."[1]
[edit] Background information
On the morning of April 1, 2007 the official radio edit of the song was leaked on to the internet. The single is currently shown as on the playlist for British radio station - BBC Radio 1, since March 28, 2007[1] and plays often on Kerrang! Radio as well as many other stations.
The single and video appeared on iTunes shortly after midnight EST on April 2, 2007. It became avaliable the day after on Itunes in the UK and Australia.
On April 2nd, the song was featured streaming on the front page of the official website.
[edit] Music video
DJ Joe Hahn of the band directed the video for the single, which was shot in the California desert[2]. The video premiered on April 2, 2007 on MTV and Fuse. It will premiere on MTV-Asia and MTV-Germany on April 3, 2007. It features the band performing in the desert, while reflecting on a variety of social issues including global warming, famine, war, and destruction. The video has been made available by various users on YouTube, but most have been retracted following copyright claims on these videos by Warner Bros. Records. This is contrary to the fact that many of Linkin Park's previous music videos on the site have not faced any retractions.
