"When All Is Said And Done" was the lead single from ABBA's final studio album, The Visitors, in the United States.
[edit] The song
While "One of Us" was released in most countries as the lead single from "The Visitors", "When All Is Said And Done" was chosen instead in the United States, with "One of Us" released afterwards. This song was similar to "One of Us" in that both explored the heartbreak and devastation of a dying romance. However, unlike the latter, "When All Is Said And Done" is almost optimistic in that sense, with Frida stating "Neither you nor I'm to blame/When all is said and done." The two singles also shared the same B-side, "Should I Laugh or Cry", and cover art.
Written during a time of emotional turmoil, Björn Ulvaeus has admitted that the recent divorce between Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad was at the back of his mind during the song-writing process of this song, however there is no doubt that he was influenced by the marital split of his bandmates. However, Björn sought approval from Benny and Frida before the group began recording the song. Frida contributed the lead vocals, with Agnetha joining in during the chorus.
This track is often considered one of ABBA's finest hidden gems. To this day, many believe that had ABBA chosen to release "When All Is Said And Done" in place of "Head Over Heels" as the follow-up single to "One of Us" in Europe and other territories, the quartet would have been rewarded with yet another worldwide hit.
ABBA recorded a Spanish version of the song, "No Hay A Quien Culpar", which was released in Mexico.
[edit] 'Mamma Mia'
It has been informed that "When All Is Said And Done" is to be included in the film version of the ABBA musical "Mamma Mia", as it has not been included in theatrical versions. Filming is to take place during spring and summer 2007.
[edit] Chart success
"When All Is Said And Done" was a modest success in the United States, peaking at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming ABBA's final Top 30 hit in that territory.
