Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Nintendo Wars

[edit] Collaborate?
Since this is a WikiProject, we might as well collaborate on some NW/AW article. I don't mean set up a page and list it under the collabs template; just maybe agree on an article we can all work on and make aweomse-like for a while, and then work on another one or something. -- gakon5 [[User_talk:gakon5|(talk)]]
[edit] Outstanding issues
I don't plan to add myself to the participants as I'm currently on Wikibreak, but there are some outstanding problems that still need to be solved, and this project is the place to solve them. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Nintendo Wars"
Do we have an independent reference the Famicom/Game Boy/Advance Wars games being referred to as "Nintendo Wars" by Nintendo ever? As far as I can tell, that is an English-language fanon name, and unless references can be supplied, it needs to be acknowledged as such. (In fact, I'm fairly sure the main source of its popularity as a term, if not its origin, is here on Wikipedia. This is a BAD THING.) - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well, not directly. But the Nintendo DS is a handheld, not a family computer, even though AWDS is called "Famicom Wars DS" in Japan. Not to mention the series itself is owned by Nintendo. However, I have added a little note in the interest of users who have no idea why it is called Nintendo Wars. JuigiKario 03:07, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- I think I remember reading in a Nintendo Power magazine about the "Wars" series, but I'm pretty sure they just called it Wars. Although I might just be imagining things. Plus, there probably aren't any better ways to reference these games as a whole. -- gakon5
[edit] References
Speaking of which, nearly none of these articles actually have references. This is a Big Deal; check out WP:V. I dunno what to suggest for references. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Level of detail
Many of the articles currently or at one time went into absolutely ridiculous levels of detail on game mechanics, to a level which is (IMO) inappropriate for Wikipedia. Units in Nintendo Wars is currently a major offender, as it goes into very specific detail down to unit prices, amounts of ammo, and unit versus unit effectiveness in different games. At different times, Game Boy Wars 3 and List of Advance Wars COs also went into this level of detail; I've done my best to keep these articles understandable to someone who isn't steeped in the series lore.
Please try and look at the (largely excellent) Final Fantasy articles and some of the (fair-to-middling) Pokémon articles to get an idea of how much detail to go into. A list of every single unit ever and their stats isn't encyclopedic, but a summary of the types of units, along with some examples, would be just peachy. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Cruft" and the right place to talk about people/places/things
One example not to follow is the Pokémon example of every single person, place, or thing getting its own article. The COs are already on a list (which is a good thing), but please don't make articles for, say, Macro Land or Black Hole. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- Not intending to. Though I wasn't the guy who had been making the articles about the individual COs, as it would contradict having Game Boy Wars Turbo and Game Boy Wars 2 redirect to Game Boy Wars. --Juigi Kario (Charge! * My crusades) 02:44, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] {{{NWSeriesProject}}
This template is too large, and is obtrusively placed. It needs to be on the talk page, not the article page, of the articles on which it currently appears. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nectaris/Military Madness
Since this project has such a narrow focus, you might want to also cover the Nectaris/Military Madness series, developed by the same Hudson team that developed Game Boy Wars. (Also, if you liked GBW, you want to try those games, too. Just sayin'.) - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Entry "Jeigan" (related to Fire Emblem)
I know this isn't directly related to Nintendo Wars, but this is still related to its little brother series.
For the time being at least, Jeigan is under the watch of this WikiProject. Actually, we probably will want to consider expanding the WikiProject to Fire Emblem. But the entry "Jeigan" gets precedence anyway, as it has been attacked by a troll, who has been claiming Sigurd is a Jeigan, not even disputing the points I had made against that possibility.
[edit] Linked from WP:CVG
Hi, I've linked this WikiProject from Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games#Wikiprojects. Hopefully that will give this project a little more attention. Jacoplane 10:06, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Realtionship
I noticed that sombody edited out the relationship thing with Jake and Sasha out of the List of Advance Wars CO list. I put it back in, but if anyone feels this is unessacary, tell me. The Republican 03:39, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- I removed it a couple of times as speculative, actually, but if someone feels it isn't, I won't revert. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:41, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Infoboxes added
I just finished adding infoboxes to all the remaining articles. However, with this means that the information seriously needs to start flowing.
- Super Famicom Wars has a ridiculous amount of info about the COs, but nothing about the gameplay at all. What was so great about FOW? What did 4-player battle offer? How were the maps different or was there any different kind of terrain?
- Famicom Wars lacks a lot of info about the basic gameplay of the game. I've only played AW2 and would like to know what was in the original console game. How did this game inspire Fire Emblem?
- Game Boy Wars goes into absolutely zero detail of how similar or different it was to its console counterparts.
- Game Boy Wars 3 has a decent clip of information, one of the better pages (the toher pages I would rank as good would be AW/AW2/AWDS.
That's all of my questions for the day. - Hbdragon88 00:00, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ah. Well, I've been wanting to avoid redundancy and I'm not particularly good with management. Hence why I created the WikiProject. --Juigi Kario (Charge! * My crusades) 05:30, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Userbox
I modifyed the userbox. Looks better in my opinoin. The Republican 01:26, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Reverted. As much as I'd like an OS Infantry/Tank in the userbox (or {{NWSeriesProject}}), fair use images aren't allowed in templates. It says somewhere I can't remember. -- gakon5
- I though we could use it because it had the proper licencing stuff. Besdie, all the other Projects have images. The Republican 01:50, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- I finally decided just to put on the generic video game controller, cause it is in all the others. The Republican 02:07, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nintendo Wars Wikibook
There's a Wikibook on Advance Wars where you can put non-encyclopedic content such as walkthroughs. I have organized the unrelated book stubs into one Nintendo Wars book since there are a lot of similarities between the games, but you can use any organization scheme you like. Good luck, Hagindaz 19:23, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Note: CVG Wikibooks are currently ill-advised right now: See b:Wikibooks:Staff lounge#Wikibooks is not a depository for video game manuals (amongst others) for details. Nifboy 05:36, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation
Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Hobbies WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] banners
Please leave the WP:CVG banner on the talk pages. They automatically classify an article for the Wikipedia 1.0 project. If you could put {{cvgproj|class=|importance=}} back on any pages that they have been removed from, that would be appreciated. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 07:10, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Battalion Wars 2
I've uploaded the logo for it, but for some reason it's not showing up in the infobox despite me putting it in correctly. If anybody could help please, here is the image: Image:Battalion Wars 2-logo.jpg TJ Spyke 22:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

- Nebermind, it's been taken care of. TJ Spyke 00:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Integration with {{cvgproj}}
A request has been made at WikiProject Computer and video games talk to integrate the {{NWSeriesProject}} template into the CVG header itself. The newly integrated template can be seen here: User:Hbdragon88/Temp. Thoughts? Objections? --PresN 16:07, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NW & Nectaris Mini-Wiki
This is a promotion for the NW & Nectaris Mini Wiki. Here it is. Of course, I'm waiting until the real Wiki can be started before having too many more pages. (Hopefully it can be.) --Juigi Kario (Charge! * My crusades) 20:20, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Are you guys alive?
There is a proposal to archive this subproject at CVG project and delete this wikiproject, as it is believed to be dead. So...is it? --PresN 20:37, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
- User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
- User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
- User:Badbilltucker/Science directory
and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:20, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:08, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 17:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
