[編集] What's Chatsubo?

I'm just curious as to the rationale behind labeling this section for non-Japanese speakers "chatsubo". I can imagine some neat metaphorical or sort of poetical connotations, but I'm really not sure...

Chatsubo means primarily a pot in which a sort of green tea matscha is preserved, and there are however several connotations. it sounds somehow funny for native Japanese, perhaps with association of nursery song. And Japanese people can find some relevance between Idobata (Village pump) and Chatsubo thanks to the nursery rhyme.

   One more thing. There is a USENET tradition to name discussion space chatsubo, perhaps connecting to the association its sound's similarity to chat+tsubo (tsubo could mean a place), but possibly from William Gibson's Neuromancer. The Chatsubo seems to be a last resort of those who are not Japanese, particularily cyber people, in one of most prosperous Japanese cities[1]. Is there a similarity for our pages - Japanese Wikipedia and this Chatsubo?

I want to see Japanese letters in this Wikipedia. What font is used and where can I download it?

• For Internet Explorer on some Windows OS: you can download Japanese support kit from microsoft (select "Japanese with Language Pack"), and you'll be able to see Japanese characters and even input them.
• For Mozilla Firefox on Microsoft Windows XP with SP2: Click View-> Character Encoding -> Unicode (UTF - 8). If that does not work, select Japanese (SHIFT_JIS). If neither of these work, go to Control Panel->Regional Options, and add support for East Asian languages.
• In IE, you can also easily install the Japanese font packs with the View-menu. Navigate to any page (it doesn't even have to contain Japanese characters), and go to the View-menu, Coding, More, Japanese. Press 'Install.' [編集] Why fairuse images are not permitted here?

I am curious because the English article has a lot more images. I was wondering if it would be alright to include images, or if there is some reason there are few to no images on many of the articles. I am not too good on Japanese Copyright law, but the servers are located in USA. If the image servers are in the United States, United States law would likely apply.

Japanese Wikipedia community has decided the users shall observe the laws both of Japan and of U.S., since most of them are Japanese (or live in Japan) and there is one explanation on the relationship among them and Wikimedia: the editors are publishing contents to the readers via the servers of Wikimedia, which is a telecommunication service provider under the Japanese laws. A Japanese copyright holder would like to file a suit against a Japanese in Japan and under the Japanese laws.

The portuguese language Wikipedia actually conducted a vote on the matter a while ago. If I am not mistaken it was decided that fairuse does not apply to it. However, we _can_ use images from the Commons, and we do. I would assume the same to be true here in the Nihongo (Japanese language) Wikipedia as well, is that correct? greetings! i'm currently working on an article on the english wikipedia about 神田川俊郎 (located at en:Toshiro Kandagawa, and would appreciate any help that could be given in checking over and possibly bringing over information from the article here to make it better. My main aim, though, is to get a picture of Kandagawa-san for the article. If anyone could find a free image that could be used in both articles, that would be wonderful.

Your edit seems to have been deleted due to GFDL/copyright violation. The Japanese Wikipedia adopts a stricter rule on GFDL and copyright. Hello. I want to create a few wikilinks to this Anime/Manga series (Vol. 2 of Battle Royale, for instance, has a reference to it relating to character Yumiko and Yukiko; and the Portuguese language article on Ichiro Mizuki mentions that series as well. As far as I may tell there is currently not even a stub on the series either on Portuguese or in English. I will be very grateful if anyone can create such articles in Portuguese and/or English, even as a stub. I personally believe that even stubs may be of great help, especially when they include the adequate Interwikis; the very presence of an article encourages users to fill in details and add and correct existing information. We have a deletion going on at en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lotion-Play which will probably be deleted very soon because it is difficult to verify this article in English. I have made a temporary backup at en:User:Coelacan/Lotion-Play (warning: adult content) and if anyone here on the Japanese Wikipedia could help with sourcing the article, that would be great. Also helpful would be to translate the article over to Japanese and try to source it here using Japanese language sources. That would be a start. Thank you. Using google, I can see that they're out there. But the article is now deleted, because as readers of the English encyclopedia generally do not read Japaese, it was very difficult to determine what these references were and whether they should be considered verifiable. They probably would be considered good sources if they were used first in an article here. Where can I request for an article on ローションプレイ to be created on the Japanese encyclopedia? I've been trying to update some information on non-Japanese universities, but it seems like Template:大学 won't work, because it contains non-modifiable references to 日本 (Example: User:エリック・ウィース/Yale_broken contains the bare minimum template). Now, fr:Université d'Oxford uses fr:Template:Université successfully, es:Universidad de Bolonia uses es:Template:Universidad successfully, and en:University of Tokyo uses en:Template:Infobox_University successfully, so why can't イェール大学 use Template:大学? Has this already been discussed somewhere? My Japanese is pretty bad, but I'm willing to try using it if there's a reasonable chance of getting something changed... It seems that the Template:大学 is being specialized for Japanese universities, and it includes introduction section "{{{大学名}}}（{{{ふりがな}}}、英称:{{{英称}}}）は、{{{本部所在地}}}に本部を置く日本の[[{{{学校種別}}}大学]]である。..." as the part of the template. The name of the template is obviously an misnomer since the Japanese Wikipedia is only an encyclopaedia written in Japanese language and not meant to be an encyclopaedia for the Japanese people. It looks like there's a fairly simple technical fix: define a country variable that defaults to "日本", and then condition on the country variable. Example: User:エリック・ウィース/template, User:エリック・ウィース/Yale (works!), User:エリック・ウィース/Tokyo (completely unchanged). ...and a related translation question: what's the difference between "創立" and "大学設置"? Does the former refer to the beginning of operation, and the latter refer to incorporation? Would it be fair to say, then, that Oxford has a "創立" in the 11th century, but a "大学設置" of 1231 (when a papal bull recognized it as a corporation)? Umm, I see. According to Article of Wikipedia, there is no continution of tv series. This article also says that there are some reasons that makes it difficult to restart tv series. One of that is that its manga series is so violent to children, that writers had to cut out such kind of scenes. The difference between tv and manga bored its funs. And, criticism by PTA may affected its break. The article also says writer realized how it difficult to restart. Well, there's no harm in having an account here. The question for you to ask yourself is what do you want to do with the account? I don't speak or read any Japanese, so I really just use my account here for adding pictures from the Commons: to article here. You could do that. Besides that I'm not sure what else you would want the account for. What were your plans? By the way, you can get a user interface with some English by clicking on the link at the top of the screen, two words over from your username, that says "オプション", and in the dropbox where it says "ja" you can change it to "en". In Japan, guns, swords and big knifes (longer than 15cm) are strictly forbidden with a few narrow exceptions (rural hunters, artwork, etc.). Konban-wa. I'm looking for the Japanese translation of the manga series "By the Sword" but I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is. I got キメラ as one of my results from a Google search and 剣によって from an online translation website. Can anyone tell me if one of these are correct? Hi Japanese Wikipedians... I am looking for quite old song called As Time Goes By. All the people that I've asked said that it's Rod Steward's song. No, that's not what I'm looking for. The singer of this song is japanese girl called Sasha (if I'm not mistaken). It's so hard to find it that I am not sure anymore that song is really exist, hahaha!! I think that song was quite popular in 1999, 2000 or 2001. It's ballads kind of song. I hope that you can help me to find, at least the full name of the singer or the album name or maybe the link to particular webisites where I might find that song. Thank you very much.

First of all, I tried to copy my user profile over from the English wikipedia, and everything was fine, but I accidentally pasted it into my talk page. The formatting was fine, but when I cut/pasted the text from my talk page to my user page, much of the text disappeared. However, when I go to edit it, it is shown. Can someone take a look at my userpage and see why this might be happening?

It's because you used [[en: links. On a userpage, [[en:Article]] adds an interlanguage link in the sidebar. If you want to display it as text, use [[:en:Article]] or [[w:Article]] . Angela 2007年3月5日 (月) 14:06 (UTC)

Currently the script is avaialble on the german, english, and polish wikipedias (demo), as well as on commons (demo). I would like to make a japanese version available too, but I need help translating about 10 userinterface strings here. Hello,

a few days ago I found the wonderful picture of a plant named "Pinguicula ramosa" in the Japanese Wikipedia (named Koushinsou.JPG). As I wrote an article on it in the German Wikipedia, I have uploaded it to the Commons as Image:Pinguicula ramosa.jpg.

Regrettably I do not speak Japanese and so I was not able to mark the local picture as deletable. I would be grateful, if somebody would be so nice to delete it (thus it isn't present twice). Furthermore I would ask you to add an interwiki-link to our German article de:Pinguicula ramosa, again I am unable to do this myself due to my lacking knowledge of Japanese. In regard of the deletion of Koushinsou.jpg, when the original file is released under GFDL by the author, (I think) the policy of Japanese Wikipedia does not allow to delete it even the same image exists on the Commons, unless requested from the original author. Okay, just a question about the language.

Hiragana and Katakana are easy enough to learn, however, Kanji seems extremely difficult. How do Japanese people learn all this? And for writing peoples names in kanji, wouldn't that be really hard to do and memorize? Especially to learn an entire class! In general they start learning from age 6 or earlier. They learn them little by little through their elementary and secondary education up to a couple thousand. (And keep learning more all through their life, I guess . . .) For younger children, it could be indeed difficult to write their friends' name in kanji, especially when they use complicated ones. For people whose name uses difficult kanji, it can be hard to write their own name! Just out of curiousity, why does it seem that the English Wikipedia has far more pictures than the Japanese Wikipedia? Very rarely do I see a picture on this site compared to the English version. I read that the Japanese Wikipedia does not allow edits from mobile phones. Other Wikipedias don't appear to have a problem with it. Why are users not allowed to edit the Japanese Wikipedia from mobile phones? --129.130.38.44 2007年4月10日 (火) 21:08 (UTC)

According to what is written at the revision draft of WP:BLOCK, (i) browsers in (Japanese) mobile phones sometimes act problematically, and may make corrupt edits without the editor realizing; (ii) you cannot talk with anonymous editors, as the IP address changes every time; and (iii) you cannot log in to an account on most phones, and that makes problem (ii) more significant. Users who were involved in the discussion seem to have reached consensus that editors from mobile phones will be blocked (but IMHO that's going a bit too far). --朝彦 (Asahiko) 2007年4月11日 (水) 14:40 (UTC)

Do Japanese people tolerate western people living in their country? Or lets just say, a westerner learns Japanese, and their culture and how to act (The slippers, the politeness, honorifics, etc) would that be okay with the Japanese? Also, in a normal day in Japan, would you see foreigners walking the streets? (Visitors or people who live there) Thanks in advance
