Henry Purcell

Henry Purcell (September 10, 1659, London – November 21, 1695, London) was the greatest English composer of his time. He was a choirboy, then organist at the Chapel Royal. He wrote a very large amount of music in his short life: anthems for church services, music for theatres, chamber music including some very beautiful fantasies for viols. He composed the first English opera: Dido and Aeneas.
[edit] Death
No one knows how Purcell died. Some rumours claim that he caught a chill after returning home late from the theatre but was locked out of his house by his wife. The most likely outcome however is that he caught tuberculosis. Purcell is buried in Westminster Abbey.
