[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Whittier logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Whittier logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] An Automated Message from HagermanBot

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 03:22, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge

It was good to see an article finally created for the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge. I'll have to do some digging to help flesh it out (stuff on the Clapper Rails, etc).

Unfortunately, the 'real' story about the creation of the refuge is something that I don't think that I'll be able to find any reputable sources for. The local Representative was very pro-military, and he helped create the refuge to block a planned freeway that was scheduled to go through the middle of the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. BlankVerse 12:52, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I grew up a couple of blocks from the Weapons Station, and a former neighbor was the main organizer of the Friends of Anaheim Bay. You might be able to present a pretty good circumstantial case for what I've stated above, but I doubt that you'll find any smoking gun, so it'll have to remain out of the Wikipedia article (although I could always blog about it).
I remember when the bill to create the Refuge was created. I think that the Representative pulled a few favors, plus many representatives wanted to polish their environmentalist credentials (this was within a few years of the first Earth Day), so there were a huge number of sponsors and the bill passed very quickly. I might try to look up the original bill in the THOMAS database (unfortunately, I just checked and the online database only goes back to 1990).
If I remember correctly, the Refuge was originally a Natl. Monument because that type of bill was easier to pass. BlankVerse 16:38, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Registration

I ran across an interesting discussion yesterday on how the results from requiring registration can be counter-intuitive. See Topix.net forums on fire: the Ni-chan paradox. BlankVerse 12:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:WOW

Thank you for the kind words. I took a look at your User page and let me tell you, you are doing an amazing job yourself. I haven't met Roger Clemens yet, but who knows in the future. Anyway since you are a Baseball fan, I would like you to know that on April I will be going to New York on an invitation from Congressman Jose Serrano and I'll take in a game at Yankee Stadium (They are going to a new stadium next year)and at Shea Stadium. Take care. Tony the Marine 06:37, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You around

This is not a question about DBTI. Just curious if you're checking in. --evrik (talk) 23:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Yup, I'm still around. I've been actually very busy creating stubs/articles of places for the Southern California Wiki Project, Medal of Honor Recipient articles for the Military Task Force project as well as creating articles for other Catholic/private high schools. I've also delved into creating some articles for Saints and the Blessed in honor of Lent. I'll be fleshing out all these articles later. I haven't updated my userpage to reflect my current projects. I'm trying to do as much as I can before I take a long Wiki break. --† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 00:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I've seen your work on the SoCal pages. Let me know if you need help with the saints pages... take a look at WikiProject California Award. I'd like some support for expanding the award for all the wikiprojects. Email me before you go on break. --evrik (talk) 04:41, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Myrna Star

The person you have written about in the article Myrna Star may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. On Wikipedia, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable, with reference to reliable published sources. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. Chesdovi 14:59, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tabasco History

06:31, 3 March 2007 Dysepsion (Talk | contribs) (→Tabasco and the U.S. military - John Avery McIlhenny was not the company's 2nd president. His brother Edward Avery McIllheny was)

Dysepsion,
According to the below article, John Avery McIlhenny took over McIlhenny Company as its second president from the time of his father's death in 1890 to 1898 when he joined the Rough Riders; then E. A. McIlhenny took over as the third company president. See:
Shane K. Bernard, "Tabasco: Edmund McIlhenny and the Birth of a Louisiana Pepper Sauce," Louisiana Cultural Vistas (Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities publication), Fall 2005. --Skb8721 16:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

when he claimed to have rescued author Jack London on an Alaskan expedition.
Yes, that story is untrue, even though E. A. McIlhenny was indeed in the Arctic and rescued some sailors whose ships were stuck in drift ice; but London was elsewhere at that time.--Skb8721 04:16, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aurora Snow

Heh. Take a look at Talk:Aurora Snow... I did more than just add back to the article. <G> Tabercil 22:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

  • There's a good deal more at the Rog Review site about Aurora Snow. There's two more interviews there, and "RRCC Awards" stands for "Rog Reviews Critic's Choice Awards". You might want to look further and add more info and/or cites: http://www.rogreviews.com Tabercil 22:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
