My guess is that you got hit by the autoblocker.

Here's what happens:

User X is a vandal and gets blocked. In the past, User X would promptly register a new account, and resume vandalizing. So we implemented the autoblocker - when User X gets blocked, the IP associated with that account automatically gets blocked for 24 hours.

This can be problematic if User X has an ISP that assigns dynamic IPs to its users from a shared IP pool, which is apparently what happened to you.

That is what happened, in fact - you got blocked because your IP had previously been used by a vandal who had the username "STOP WRITING MESSAGES IN BINARY YOU FUCKTARDS". Rest assured that we administrators try to be more professional than to be so crude in leaving block messages. DS 12:37, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
