Galavisión is a Spanish language cable network owned by Univision Communications Inc... Galavisión is also the name of a Mexican TV channel owned by Grupo Televisa. Nether the US nor Mexican Galavisions are related to each other, other than the Televisa-produced programming.

In the early 80's to mid 90's,Galavisión would air a mix of spanish and english language programs from the popular Kiki Desde Hollywood to an investigative magazine show,as well as the Miami.Florida produced variety entertainment show A Oscuras Pero Encendidos. As well as Televisa produced programs that first aired on Univision,with entertainment and some news programs from Televisa's all news network ECO,including an "Entertainment Tonight" program anchored by Pita Ojeda and Ilia Calderon.

Since the late 90's,Galavisión airs a combination of Classic Comedy, telenovelas, and late night shows from the 70's, 80's and 90's that aired originally on Univision, with more present day offerings from news, sports to specials originating from Televisa's three stations, XEW-TV, 4TV, and Galavisión Mexico as well as two shows produced by Televisia's music network, TeleHit.

Galavisión has also expanded production of its own shows such as Acceso Maximo, En Casa Con Lucy, Delicioso, Vida Total,"Decorando Contigo","Un Destino",Lo Mejor de Boxeo en Esta Esquina, the best of sister network Telefutura's Solo Boxeo series.

Under the most strictest rules of ANY broadcaster,Galavisión can pre-empt a show from its schedule without notice should they find something that they feel could be offensive to their U.S. viewers,going so far as to even BAN a show for up to 2 years, as was in the case of Televisa's "Nuestra Casa"

2004:An edition of the gossip program "CON TODO" one of their hosts appeared in blackface,when that occoured,the show was immediately replaced with an alternative program,and has since been banned from Galavisión USA

February 24,2006: A live edition of "HOY" featured a "better living" segment featuring Pita Ojeda And Astrologer Mizzari Mohammead and accompanying Reynaldo Rossano skit that was in the opinion of Univision execs, very unacceptable and the show was pre-empted the next day with a rebroadcast of a concert from 2005.After that incident, the show was placed on a 5 to 7 minute delay,until early summer when "Hoy" producers and Univision execs came to an understanding and the show returned to air live.

Other programming is also made to fit these strict broadcast standards as well

Galavision's coverage of futbol, produced by Televisa, is done with a secondary or "clean" feed in which any references to Televisa are not shown and Galavision supplants the feed with Univision's announcers and graphics. In the early days, Galavision would use the whole Televisa feed while covering any televisa promotions or sponsor tags with a green generic Galavision border logo.

As for news programming,Galavision,while owned by Univision Networks,has no news operations and instead airs newscasts from Televisa's channels XEW TV,4TV,and Galavision

Interesting insight,due to Mexico not observing Daylight Savings Time the same day we do,the morning programs "PRIMERO NOTICIAS" and "HOY" are aired on a hour delay on Galavision

Galavision,sister network Telefutura,Univision are in the process of being aquired by Broadcasting Media Partners Inc. (lead by private equity firms and entertainment executive Haim Sabin) The future for the network is unknown at the moment
