List of DirecTV channels

Below is a numerical representation of the DirecTV channel lineup. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7).
Note that most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channnels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. For a list of cities which broadcast local channels in high-definition, see List of DirecTV channels/Locals With HD.
Most channels come from the main satellites at 101°W longitude, and all systems from the very beginning can get these channels. Most DirecTV Spanish-Language programming and some Chinese programming is from 119°W. Most HDTV is from 110°W, but some channels are on 119°W and 101°W, and will not show up in other program guides, as it is essentially a different system (MPEG-4 AVC over DVB-S2, instead of MPEG-2 over DSS.
Note that DirecTV has created potential confusion by using channel numbers 70 to 99 (as well as 1 and possibly 0). Because ATSC over-the-air (OTA) digital TV also has virtual channel numbering (just as DirecTV does), it would be entirely possible for local stations to use these as their major channel numbers, even though under current FCC rules regarding digital channel identification, stations must use their old analog channel numbers. Since channel numbers above 69 are not used for analog TV, there is no current conflict, but that could change in the future. Currently, TBN plans to use 75. For the new DirecTV boxes that have OTA tuning, these may show as channels 75-1 to 75-5, in this example.

[edit] Former DirecTV channels
- Channel 111 was the Kids Mix channel, showing various children's television networks in a format similar to News Mix and Sports Mix, until January 1, 2007. The channel position is now vacant.
- Channel 205 was CNN Sports Illustrated until that network folded on May 15, 2002. It is now used by ESPN in March for regional telecasts of the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championship (Channels 211 and 213 are also used for regional broadcasts; the main telecast is shown on either 206, ESPN, or 209, ESPN2).
- Channel 358 was CNNfn until that channel folded in 2004 and that position has remained vacant to this day.
- Music Choice held many audio channels in the 800s until XM Satellite Radio replaced them in December 2005. MC is still available on many cable systems.
- MLB Home Plate was on channel 878 from November 2005 to April 2006, when DirecTV dropped the channel just before the start of the season. DirecTV stated that it wanted to focus on carrying the music channels simulcast from XM. However, Home Plate curiously stayed off the lineup when another talk channel, High Voltage (now The Virus) returned to it about a week after both channels were originally dropped.
- America's Store, which was on channel 243, was pulled on or about March 1, 2007, after its parent company, IAC/InterActiveCorp, announced that it will cease operations on April 3, 2007.
- Gospel Music Channel This channel was added to the channel guide on July 26, 2006 but is shown as "not locally available" in most locations. This channel was added on "DirecTV branded" TiVos, instead of channel 996 added on other receivers. (This channel was mapped to Channel 14 or 15 depending on what market locals are in) Directv plans to drop this channel by 3/15/2007.
- Ultimate Shopping Network This channel was on channel 345 but was removed from Guide March 26, 2007.

- The Big Ten Network, a 24-hour channel carrying only collegiate sporting events from the Big Ten Conference, will launch in August 2007 on DirecTV. The Big Ten Network will also be available in HD. [1] No assigned channel as of March 5, 2007.
- FOX Business Channel Which will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2007. It will be placed with the other news networks.FOX Business Channel will be either on channels 359 or 361[2] No assigned channel as of March 5, 2007.
- Ovation TV will be available on DirecTV in mid-2007. Ovation TV will be seen on channel 267.[3]
- Several HD stations will be added in 2007. Partial list, dates and channel locations unknown as of March 18, 2007: A&E, National Geographic, Bravo, NFL Network, Cartoon Network, SciFi Channel, CNN, Speed, Food Network, TBS, FX, The History Channel, HGTV, The Weather Channel, MTV, USA Network, YES Network, Comcast Sports Net, New England Sports Network and FOX Sports.[4]
- MLB Channel Will launch in 2009.[5]
