KSTR-TV, channel 49, is a Spanish-language general entertainment television station in Irving, Texas, serving the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It is currently owned by Univision, and broadcasts as a TeleFutura affiliate.
[edit] History
KLTJ-TV ran Christian teaching programming from Trinity Broadcasting Network from March 1984 to September 1986. The station was then sold to the Home Shopping Network and switched to Shop at Home programs from HSN as KHSX. Today the call letters KLTJ is now used for Daystar in Houston, Texas channel 22. But before it was used for channel 57 from 1987-1989.
Silver King owned the HSN stations, and USA Broadcasting bought them by 1996. In 1999, USA Broadcasting switched the station to a general entertainemnt format under the call sign KSTR-TV (Meaning "K-Star") with cartoons, reality shows, sitcoms, talk shows, and movies. During this period, it was the official Dallas/Fort Worth station for Dallas Mavericks Basketball.
In 2001, Univision bought KSTR and switch the station to a Spanish format. KSTR's English programming though would move to former Telemundo affiliate KFWD. All Dallas Mavericks games were moved to now-former UPN affiliate KTXA-TV.
