KEGS is a television station in Goldfield, Nevada, serving the Reno, Nevada market as an affiliate of ImaginAsian and Retro Television Network on channel 7. The station is also seen on KRRI-LP channel 25 in Reno, Nevada, and on KEGS-LP channel 63 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like many stations owned by Equity Broadcasting, the stations are operated remotely by satellite; their programming can be seen free-to-air on Galaxy 10R.
[edit] History
The Las Vegas station was founded on January 12, 1993 as K63FD, and later gained the call sign KTVY-LP in 1997. On May 31, 1999, the Goldfield station signed on as KBNX. When Equity acquired the station in 2002, the station was rechristened KTVY-TV to match the station in Las Vegas. Finally, in late May of 2005, both stations changed their call sign to the current KEGS.
[edit] Digital television
Because it was granted an original construction permit after the FCC finalized the DTV allotment plan on April 21, 1997 [1], the station did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. Instead, on or before February 18, 2009, which is the end of the digital TV conversion period for full-service stations, KEGS will be required to turn off its analog signal and turn on its digital signal (called a "flash-cut").
Equity Broadcasting currently has a construction permit to move KEGS-LP to UHF channel 30, with a digital signal on channel 24.
