[edit] Events

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Stargate SG-1

Major Lorne first appeared in SG-1's Season 7 episode "Enemy Mine". He served in SG-11 under Colonel Edwards at the Naqahdah dig site on P3X-403. When the site was attacked by the native Unas, only Dr. Jackson's intervention prevented a blood bath. [1]

He also appeared in SG-1's Season 10 episode "The Road Not Taken" in an alternate universe. In this alternate universe he was the leader of SG-1 under the command of General Hammond.

[edit] Stargate Atlantis

[edit] Season 2

Major Lorne has been in 14 episodes of Atlantis, ranging from a few lines to spending a majority of the episode on screen.

Lorne reappeared some time later in Atlantis, as part of the new personnel sent after the Wraith siege by the Daedalus. He was investigating planet P3M-736 with Dr. Parrish when they discovered a Wraith corpse. After it was confirmed Lt. Ford was on the planet, Lorne was one of the officers chosen by Col. Sheppard to track him down. He was partnered with Dr. McKay, whose doom and gloom attitude he ignored. Lorne told McKay he really must be a genius if Sheppard had not shot him already. He was knocked down with a Wraith stunner by Ford, who took McKay with him. Lorne recovered and returned to the Puddle Jumper [2]

After Col. Sheppard's team failed to return from Olesia, Dr. Elizabeth Weir ordered him to assemble a team to go and assist them. He piloted the Puddle Jumper, proving that he has the ATA gene. He and two marines escorted Dr. Weir to Olesia [3].

During the episode The Hive Lorne piloted a puddle jumper with McKay to try and reach Col. Sheppard.

Lorne was also in the episode The Long Goodbye where he piloted a jumper to retrieve a stasis pod and later led the mission to prevent Sheppard and Weir, who were at the time under control by aliens, from killing each other.

Lorne and his team were apparently killed when the building they were in was attacked and destroyed. However, Dr. Beckett was able to determine that the bodies found were not Major Lorne and his team, but rather belonged to people who were already dead from radiation poisoning, pointing to the Genii. When Sheppard's team was captured by the Genii, they found Lorne and his team alive. The Genii had circulated wanted posters for Atlantis personnel with the Ancient gene, including Major Lorne and his team, so they were probably turned in for the reward. After Ladon turned on Cowen and staged a coup d'etat, all of them returned safely to Atlantis. [4]

Though it has not been explicitly stated, Major Lorne seems to be Lt. Col. Sheppard's new second-in-command. As far as it had been shown, he is the second highest-ranked officer in Atlantis after Sheppard himself and although, as seen in the episode Phantoms and Sateda, there is at least one other major on the base. As stated above, Lorne took responsibility of escorting Weir after Sheppard went missing.

[edit] Season 3

After the Wraith obtained the address of Earth, Major Lorne commanded the Orion in a joint mission with the Daedalus to stop the two hiveships from reaching Earth. After launching an attack that destroyed one of the hiveship, the Orion was destroyed, but Lorne and his crew were transferred safely onto the Daedalus. Afterwards, Lorne was part of Col. Sheppard's team when they beamed into the remaining hiveship to find out if the retrovirus has worked. He was attacked by the Wraith Queen, but suffered no serious injury [5].

He also was in the episode Tao of Rodney, but only for a short time. His team was trapped offworld and Sheppard's team went to rescue him.

Lorne later appeared again the episode The Game. He is credited with discovering the town Geldar.[6]. Later, he was seen arguing with Dr. Zelenka while playing the game against him.

In the episode Sunday, it was revealed that Maj. Lorne's mother was an art teacher and taught him how to paint on weekends when he was growing up. Though he gave it up for a while, Atlantis rekindled his muse, and he was painting an extremely detailed and colorful canvas with a view of the Atlantis skyline.

Major Lorne was also instrumental in a plan to move Atlantis off Lantea to another world by leading a squadron of Apollo's F-302s to move an asteroid in the Lantean system's belt, to block an Asuran energy weapon long enough for Atlantis to take flight. Following the asteroid maneuver, Lorne and the F-302s returned to Apollo and evacuated the area, along with all non-essential Atlantis expedition personnel.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Background Information

Kavan Smith went to the Stargate Atlantis audition hoping that they could bring Lorne back, even if the audition was for another, but similar, character. The producers decided that bringing Lorne back was perfect and they were very open to let him find the character. [7]

According to an interview with actor Kavan Smith, Lorne's first name has been decided to be "Evan". [8]
