Doctor May Wright is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She is played by Amanda Drew.
May is the new General Practitioner for Walford, and clashed with Dot Branning on her first day in the job. Dot was about to start smoking in the café and May told her it was a non-smoking area. Dot called her a "rude woman" and left. They later met outside the surgery where May told Dot smoking was bad for her health. Dot said she'd just seen the doctor, who said smoking was fine in moderation. May said she didn't remember seeing Dot, and introduced herself as the new doctor. She has since visited Billy and Honey Mitchell to check up on their baby, Janet, who has Down syndrome. On 13 November May was revealed to be the wife of Rob Minter, who had been having an affair with Dawn Swann. May and Rob had been on a break from their relationship when he met Dawn, but had since got back together and started trying for a baby through IVF.
In December 2006, May and Rob moved into the flat above the surgery. She revealed that she had previously lost a baby at six weeks pregnant. May discovered that Dawn was pregnant by Rob, and Rob paid Dawn to have an abortion, but Dawn spent the money on herself and waited to have the abortion on the NHS. May's fertility treatment was unsuccessful, so she then knew she was unable to ever become pregnant again. When May realised that Dawn was still pregnant with Rob's child and would not be able to conceive herself, she asked Dawn to sell the baby to her and Rob.
