[edit] Title
WikiProject North Carolina State Highways
[edit] News
Project news can be found at or on the right column of the talk page.
[edit] Scope
The purpose of this WikiProject is to create, standardize, and improve articles about the state highway system in North Carolina. This project will encompass all the North Carolina State Routes (on diamond-shaped shields), the U.S. Routes and Interstates that are predominantly North Carolinian (like US 158) and any other unusual routes in the state (like Charlotte 4); important named freeways are also included (like Bryan Boulevard).

[edit] Structure
The structure can vary a little, but it should basically look like North Carolina State Highway 8, North Carolina State Highway 12, and North Carolina State Highway 6. The object is to best convey information about the route and to identify its importance. Route histories, termini, attractions, etc. are encouraged, but not always mandatory. These articles should not only satisfy roadfans, but also travelers, tourists, scholars, and average joes. This does not mean, however, that they should read like an advertisement or imply bias. If you are unsure on formatting, use common sense and common law.
[edit] Naming
Articles should be named "North Carolina Highway n" (where n is the route number).
Route shield SVG's should be named "NC n.svg". Most shields have already been made and can be found here. (Contact TwinsMetsFan for new shields.)
A redirect page should be made for each NC route where if I search for "NC 8", North Carolina State Highway 8 should pop up. If there is already a article for the redirect page like in the case of NC 4, make a disambiguation page or a tag at the top of the article.
The WikiProject's Completion List will show any redirects that need to be made. (links with no shield at the beginning of the line are routes that don't exist) (currently under development)
[edit] Templates
[edit] Infoboxes
Infobox is located at Template:Infobox NC Route
Instructions for use are at Template_talk:Infobox NC Route
[edit] Pages without infoboxes
Pages without infoboxes should have a shield image in the upper right corner (accomplished with ) and a succession box at the bottom of the page. The template for the succession box is ncsh box.
These are temporary placeholders until an infobox is created for the route. If you create an infobox, please remove the extra shield and succession box.
[edit] Stub template
- These should be placed at the bottom of the route articles that need more details.
- Articles with stubs will automatically be entered into Category:Southern United States road stubs.
[edit] Project template
NC State Highways WikiProject or NC Highways WikiProject
- These can be placed at the top of the route talk pages within our jurisdiction.
[edit] Userboxes

- These can be placed anywhere on your user page.
- It is strongly recommended that go on your user (talk) (sub) page.
[edit] Shields
[edit] Cleanup template
INSERT DATE HERE
- If an NC Route article needs to be cleaned up, place this tag on the top of the route's article page.
- If a section within a NC Route article needs to be cleaned up, place this tag just under the section's title.
- Articles with this tag will be placed in Category:NC highways needing cleanup. This may help you find articles to work on.
[edit] Categories
Category:North Carolina State Highways
The category is sorted numerically by the place of the hundreds digit. The convention is

where xxx is the route number of the highway you're editing. 1- and 2- digit numbers get leading zeros; thus North Carolina State Highway 6 is categorized as 006. There are a few exceptions like with NC 226A; in those cases, you can just do this:

This category will help you find articles that have been created and need to expanded: Category:Southern United States road stubs
