Connecticut Routes WikiProject
[edit] Scope
This WikiProject aims to encourage participation in creating and/or expanding articles about state highways in Connecticut. This project also aims to standardize the structure of these articles.
[edit] Highways to include
The project covers all current state highways (both signed routes and unsigned routes). This includes U.S. Highways and Interstate Highways in the state.
[edit] Goals
Apply project standards to non-compliant existing articles. Expand stub articles. Create articles for Routes that don't have articles yet.

[edit] Lists
The main article giving an overview of the Connecticut state highway system and a list of all current Routes is at List of State Routes in Connecticut.
[edit] Structure
[edit] Article name
Articles for signed state highways should have titles with the format Connecticut Route X, where X is the route number. Also, make sure that Route X (Connecticut) redirects to the article.
Articles for notable "secret routes" should use the common name (e.g. Whitehead Highway) rather than the unsigned numeric designation, but make sure that both "Connecticut State Road X" (or "Connecticut Special Service Road X") and "State Road X (Connecticut)" (or "Special Service Road X (Connecticut)") redirect to the article.
[edit] Infobox
Use stateroutect as the first part of the article. See an existing article such as Connecticut Route 9 for an example of how to fill the template in. The map parameter should be left out if a map is not available. The other parameters should be left in but leave the entry blank if you do not know the correct information to put.
Blank template:

For each parameter, here's what should be filled in:
- type=: blank or CT (state route), Interstate (Interstate), U.S. or US (U.S. Route)
- article_route=: number of road
- length_mi=: length of road in miles
- length_km=: length in kilometers - deprecated, see next parameter
- length_round=: if only "length_mi" is given, enter the precision of the mileage total here (ex. enter 2 for 19.19 miles, 1 for 40.1) - this will automatically calculate the kilometer length
- length_ref=: length reference using <ref> tags
- yrcom=: year commissioned, if known
- direction_a=: usually either South or West
- from=: Southern or Western terminus
- junction=: major junctions, separated by <br> tags. Include only junctions with expressways and no more than four junctions.
- direction_b=: usually either North or East
- to=: Northern or Eastern terminus
- previous_type=: type of previous route in browse: blank or CT (state route), Interstate (Interstate), U.S. or US (U.S. Route)
- previous_route=: number of previous route in browse
- next_type=: same as previous_type but for the next route in the browse
- next_route=: same as previous_route but for the next route in the browse
Additional parameters that can be used when necessary:
|marker_image= |name= |alternate_name= |map= |length_notes= |decommissioned= |browse=
For these parameters, here's what can be filled in:
- marker_image=: custom route shields (full image markup required)
- name=: custom route name
- alternate_name=: any alternate names of the route
- map=: a map of the route (full image markup required)
- length_notes=: notes regarding the length
- decommissioned=: date of decommissioning
- browse=: use to add extra browse rows
[edit] Intro section
Overview of the route, highlighting freeway/expressway sections if present. List the route numbers and towns at the termini, general direction (E/W or N/S), and major cities/regions of Connecticut served by the route. Length can be listed as well. The bolded text must be Route X.
[edit] Route description
Provide a more detailed route description through the various towns along the way. Highlight any interesting attractions/landmarks encountered and note any significant changes in the road character.
[edit] Special designations
(optional) Connecticut has a lot of commemorative highway names. List here any such commemorative names if you know them, indicating which section of the road it applies to. Please link appropriately to the event/person being commemorated. Any state designated scenic portions should also be listed here.
[edit] History
(include if information available) Broad overview of the history of the modern route. Highlight any major realignments and number changes, if known. You may also include a history of the roads that previously used the route number. If a detailed history is available, please include with proper sources.
[edit] Notes
(optional) Any interesting tidbits/trivia should go here.
[edit] Junction list
Make a table with columns for Town, Road names, Junction, Milepost. The town columns may also include the total miles travelled by the route in that particular town in parentheses. The road names column is a comma-separated list of street names used by the route in going through a particular town. Junctions to be included are those with other Routes, U.S. Highways, and Interstate Highways. "Secret" routes may be included in the junction list only if those routes lead to major highways or state facilities. For routes that are entirely or mostly freeway, this section is not needed. See Connecticut Route 4#Junction list for an example of a non-freeway route. Note that some articles currently have this section under the heading Town by town.
[edit] Exit list
This section is only for routes that are entirely or mostly freeway. See Connecticut Route 8#Exit list for an example. For freeway routes with no or only one intermediate exit, an exit list table is not necessary. Please follow the U.S. Roads exit list guidelines for specific table formatting with the following exceptions: (1) For the "Location" column, use "Town" as the column header instead; (2) Do not include the "County" column.
[edit] References
If information for the whole article or for any section is based primarily on external sources, please include the specific link or attribution here.
[edit] External links
List of websites that provide additional information on the route that have not been used as principal sources for the article.
[edit] Templates
[edit] Stub template
Use Connecticut-State-Highway-stub to mark articles that are stubs. The template should be added at the bottom of the article. Articles that are sufficiently long and have several subsections should not be marked as stubs even if they do not have all the required sections. See cleanup below.
[edit] Cleanup template
Use cleanup-ctsh to mark articles that are no longer stubs but do not have all the required subsections or have a non-standard structure. Put the specific reasons why the article need scleanup in the template as follows: Reason for cleanup. This template is nomrally located at the top of the article.
[edit] WikiProject template
For assessment purposes, Connecticut Routes WikiProject needs to be added to all talk pages.
[edit] Other links
- Route shield images, if needed outside the infobox, can be found at , where X is the route number. The blank route shield (if you want to make your own shield) is at
- Some maps for the longer routes are available. They are located at , again where X is the route number.
[edit] Categories
All articles are to be included in Category:Connecticut state highways. At the bottom of each article, place where nnn is the 3-digit route number (use leading zeros if needed).
