[edit] History
The station that would become "107.3 Jamz" began as WANS in the 1960s. WANS flipped from Top 40 to Adult Contemporary-formatted, WWMM, "Magic 107.3" in February 1991 due to the station being sold to new owners. In 1994, due to low ratings, Adult Contemporary formatted, "Magic 107.3" WWMM changed format and call letters to Urban Contemporary, "107.3 Jamz", WJMZ. WJMZ carried the station slogan, "The Peoples' Station" until 2003, in which it changed to "Today's R&B" -- and modified its format to Urban Adult Contemporary (almost dropping hip hop entirely) due to competition from WHZT. They also recently added the addition slogan to the moniker, "50 Minutes of Music Every Hour", a slogan on other Cox Radio owned urban radio stations.
