WOKV AM 690, (simulcast on 106.5 FM) is a news-talk radio station in Jacksonville, Florida. From the 1950s to the 1980s, this frequency was the original home to top 40 station WAPE, who migrated to the 95.1 frequency in 1986, replacing urban contemporary WJAX. The 47th largest radio market in the U.S.
The station lineup includes Jacksonville's Morning News, Neal Boortz, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Clark Howard, plus Jaguars programming as the flagship station of the city's National Football League team. WOKV is owned by Cox Communications of Atlanta, who also owns WFYV, WJGL, WMXQ and WAPE, all FM stations in Jacksonville.
WOKV is the only AM radio station in the Jacksonville market to remain in the top 10 in the Arbitron ratings since 1996.
Its daytime signal at 690 is one of the strongest AM signals on the East Coast, as it covers the entire coast from Daytona Beach, Florida all the way to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, including the Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina markets.
In 2006, the station upgraded its nighttime signal to 25 kWz and also added a simulcast on 106.5 FM, formerly WBGB, making it one of the first news/talk stations in the country to simulcast on both bands. Other such stations are WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina, WWL in New Orleans, WHIO in Dayton, Ohio, and KTAR in Phoenix, Arizona, although the KTAR simulcast will end on New Year's Day 2007.
