Hi,

you keep removing my notes about the Viewpoint Media Player. Look I am not sure how to phrase them so they sound the way YOU want them to sound. if you feel they sound too much like an advertisement, fine, repharse them. But do not delete the entire stuff. it is just wrong to only say the VMP is used for advertising. It is just one side of the story. the VMP is a media player like Flash is. the fact that a lot of people do use it to display advertising is true too. (like it is the case for flash too). but you cannot simplify the VMP reason of being around advertising.

the fact that the VMP is used by car manufacturers to create car configurators is a fact. it is not an advertisement. people created games using the technology. web-merchants use it so you can have a 3d view of a product before purchasing it.

I am not going to keep modifying this article if my changes get deleted each time. I was trying to actually write something balanced and objective which truly describe what the VMP is.

But its purpose is not advertising. that is my point. what makes you say that VMP's purpose is advertising? would you say Macromedia Flash's purpose is advertising? Both players are being used to display advertising this is true. But both players are also being used to create web content. In the end, VMP is mostly a flash player with 3d capabilities.

Now i do agree with the fact that it is being installed in AOL without user consent is an issue. And I think it is the only issue here. (a big one though)

It's why i also wanted to remove the last paragraph that says that it sends back information to Viewpoint's servers. it is wrong. The reason VMP is perceived as spyware is because it is installed without user consent.(in case of AOL). If you look at the history I didn't delete the part that says that.

On that warning, I've placed your gun back in its holster, but please don't worry: vandals like that don't last long here without being blocked. Just make sure that if you feel they are a blatant vandal, that you've placed the {{blatantvandal}} template on their talk page, leaving them elligible for blocking at any time in the future.

Could you please do a CheckUser on User:Blue Sand521 to see if he's the same IP? This mess all started when I ventured that Blue Sand and the IP need to present an actual case contesting the deletion of Young B instead of the childish whining, personal attacks, and logical fallacies coming from their general direction. Apparently they're escalating to vandalism of user pages in their undeclared war. Wonderful.

Neither User:L0b0t nor I has bureaucrat priveledges (in fact, neither of us is an admin), so we couldn't do that anyway. I'd advise trying to go through WP:RCU if it continues and it's bad enough. Anyway, they should try WP:DRV. Sorry if I'm restating everything you already know; but it's hard for me to figure out exactly what's going on with this one. Hello. I was doing a bit of RC patrol and noticed a few of your edit summaries which I felt were 'over the line'; examples include this and this. While I agree that both instances were clear vandalism, insulting the vandal isn't the best course of action - it can be construed as a personal attack. I'm glad to see yourself as a very good recent changes patroller but the more inflaming an edit summary you leave (such as this recent one 1) will provoke them to continue their vandalism spree just to spite you. I have a favor to ask, however. See Trans fat immediately. I sense a nasty edit war brewing between myself and a food industry insider who turned the article into pro-transfat propaganda full of weasel words and outright lies. I don't know anything about trans fats so I'm probably not the best person to come to about food industry POV. What I do know is that Wikipedia policy doesn't allow usernames that contain the name of an organisation. User:ISEO has been blocked indefinitely [1] for that reason. -- Steel 22:35, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Trans fats are extremely unhealthy. They're also known as 'partially hydrogenated oil'. Unfortunately, they're way cheaper to make than lard which is very much healthier. My opinion of trans fats is they're completely unfit for human consumption in any way whatsoever.

The problem with youtube is that you don't always know the copyright status of what you are linking to. Also, youtube links can go dead very quickly as they get removed. I noticed you have had some trouble with 64.31.99.95. In such cases, it's better just to stick to the generic test templates, as adding "baiting" and/or joking commentary merely feeds them. I notice that when fighting vandalism you often are less than civil in your edit summaries. Fighting vandals is good, and fighting spammers is better, but please read and follow the rules of Wikipedia:Civility, which is policy here.

It occurs to mean that your comments may be intended has humorous rather than mean, however you need to understand that in a text only environment humor can often seem rude. Specifically things like:

• DEATH TO SPAMMERS! ALLAHU AKBAR!!! <-KABOOM!!!-> [2]
• Umm, dood, you're nucking futs! Please stop smoking the banana peel :P [3]
• Bigots? Save Wikipedia from yourself then. Never edit again, enema-bag. [4]
• The person who is better than you (measured objectively so it's not ego talking) tells you to STFU, Death to Racists FTW asshat! [5]

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter! Issue III - February 1, 2007

Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you. Project News The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together. The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system. The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English. Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub! There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this. A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute. With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on. It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across. Article news Two articles were recently shepherded through the Featured Article process by two of our members - Same-sex marriage in Spain and The Well of Loneliness. Good luck! Project News With such rapid development of the project, it was decided that a Coordinator was needed to ensure all the fiddly maintenence was kept up. Elections were held and Dev920 (talk • contribs) has been elected Coordinator for the next three months. She said "I am honoured and proud to be at the helm of such a fantastic WikiProject and look forward to our future". Congratulations Dev! The assessment system continues to be a great success, we have tagged over 5200 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system. Jumpaclass is proving to be quite successful! The winner at the end of the year gets to pick the January collaboration, so sign up and get going! Or challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub! A new Community department has been set up to foster community amongst our members. It mostly acts as other WikiProjects' Outreach department, but also has a Quilt to which every member is entitled to add a square containing anything of their choice. The peer review is not getting much custom - please notice you can cross-list other peer reviews from different projects that also fall within our scope. Many people still seem to be unaware that the Deletion sorting subpage exists for XfDs to be listed: please use and watch that page instead of issuing "alerts" for ordinary AfDs on the project talkpage. WP:FILM has a current drive to give every film article an infobox. WP:LGBT successfully gave all 105 LGBT infoboxless films infoboxes, so a big thank you to everyone who participated. A new template, LGBT-footer, has been created for articles which are becoming to cluttered with infoboxes. Thanks to WJBscribe and SatyrTN for creating it. A very basic resources page has been started. Please add to it as you come across useful sites. A promotional poster for the project has been created: http://wplgbt.tripod.com/Wikipedianeedsyou.doc (you have to directly cut and paste the url, or it won't let you download it). Please distribute anywhere and everywhere you desire, such as gay libraries, cybercafes, community centres and so on. Also, please let Dev920 know where you have put it up, so she can keep track of our coverage. An LGBT Publications Taskforce has been proposed. Please sign up here if you are interested in being involved. An LGBT WikiProject has been set up on the Spanish Wikipedia! Set up by Raystorm, it has already gained six members and is developing an assessment system. If you speak any Spanish, please consider going up and lending a hand if you can! Article News An LGBT article, Homosexual readings of Jesus and John, made it onto the main page as a DYK this month. Congratulations to Haiduc, who wrote the article. Another article, Same-sex marriage in Italy, also made it onto the main page as a DYK this month. Congratulations to Raystorm, who wrote the article. And another article, George Cecil Ives, made it to the front page DYKs this month. Congratulations to Zefrog, who wrote the article. Issue V - April 3, 2007 Monthly Challenge: Article News Three articles were promoted to Featured Article status this month: Homer's Phobia (2007-03-26), Trembling Before G-d (2007-03-15) and Andrew Van De Kamp (2007-03-30). Congratulations to Gran2 and Dev920 (twice!) respectively for all their hard work! Three new articles appeared on the Main Page as Did you know? items: Classification of transsexuals (2007-03-02), Steve Stanton (2007-03-08) and Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus (2007-03-23), started by Lwollert, Yksin and MusicMen, respectively. DavidShankBone deserves kudos for his current drive to provide quality LGBT photos from the NYC area. One of the more recent photos is posted on Michael Musto, and you can check out the gallery on David's user page. Project News There is now the beginning of a list of core topics to possibly be included in the Wikipedia 1.0 release. Your suggestions are welcome; there may be many core LGBT topics still missing. We have a list of people categorized as LGBT whose articles need to be checked for reliable sourcing. This effort is necessary and urgent, to comply with Wikipedia's policy on living persons. Please take a few moments to source one article; if you've got time, do another. SatyrTN identified all the articles that were in subcategories of Category:LGBT but not yet tagged with the project's banner, about 1,400 articles. These have been completed, though SatyrBot will make periodic runs through the cats to find any new entries. Thanks Satyr! The number of articles within our project's spectrum (6,667 currently) should now be relatively stable and only grow with article creation. However, if you find a category that should be included, please let SatyrTN know so it can be included in the bots runs. Work is underway to improve the LGBT Portal. Please add any good quality (free) photos you come across on LGBT articles to the gallery here. Also if anyone would like to volunteer to help in maintaining the portal, please make yourselves known on the Portal's talkpage. If you see any articles for deletion or any other deletion discussions related to LGBT topics, please remember to add them to the deletion sorting board. Thanks!
