Nonostante i grandi successi ottenuti gli anni precedenti, i fratelli Young (Malcolm in particolare) decisero di dare una sferzata alla situazione che si era creata; licenziarono praticamente quasi tutto lo staff, il manager e il produttore John Lange a cui era imputato il cambio del sound ed un leggero ammorbidimento del suono. L'album in questione seppur non tra i migliori della band riporta i nostri a dieci pezzi di tirato hard rock, senza fronzoli e compromessi. Tra le canzoni più riuscite oltre alla TITLE TRACK la potente ed orecchiabile ""Rising Power"", la travolgente ""Guns For Hire"", ""This House Is On Fire"" e ""Bedlam In Belgium""

- Entra nella formazione come batterista Simon Wright, ma non si è a conoscienza se durante la registrazione dell'album i pezzi siano stati registrati tutti da Phil Rudd o alcuni da un session-man.
- Phil Rudd abbandona quindi il gruppo per alcuni contrasti con i fratelli Young e per dedicarsi agli elicotteri.
- Flick of the Switch è stato registrato a Nassau (Bahamas)
