KZND is a commercial modern rock music radio station in Houston, Alaska, broadcasting to the Anchorage, Alaska area on 94.7 FM.
The station began in 2000 at 87.7 FM, technically a television signal, under the call sign KZND-LP. On March 30, 2006, KZND began broadcasting at 94.7 FM, with a 50,000 watt signal. The reason given for the move was twofold. First, since KZND-LP was broadcasting as a television station, Arbitron would not include KZND-LP in the radio ratings. Second, some radios cannot tune to 87.7 FM, so ownership hoped that a more "mainstream" frequency would bring in new listeners. [1]
