Miss World 2003

The 53rd Miss World pageant was held at Sanya, Hainan, China on December 6, 2003. There were 106 delegates who vied for the crown. Irish Rosanna Davison, daughter of popular musician Chris de Burgh, won the title, claiming Ireland's first major beauty pageant title.

- The 53rd Miss World is not just the first ever major beauty pageant to be held in China, but also the first time it was held in a Communist country.
- This is the first time that fast-tracking awards were given. The winners of the fast-tracking award will automatically move on to the semi-finals.
- Andorra, Guadeloupe and Northern Marianas competed in Miss World for the first time.
- Ethiopia and Georgia competed in Miss World and then made into the semi-finals.
- Russia, who placed as 2nd runner-up in Miss International and a contestant in Miss Universe 2000, failed to put her through the semi-finals.
- Belgium, Cayman Islands, Mauritius, Nigeria and South Africa competed in Miss Universe 2003 in Panama eight months before. South Africa, who failed to put her through the semi-finals, placed as 2nd runner-up.
- Antigua, Curacao, Czech Republic, Lebanon, and Switzerland competed in Miss Universe 2004 in Ecuador. Switzerland made into the semi-finals in both Miss World as well as the Miss Universe pageant (placing 13th).
- Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago, and Zambia competed in Miss Universe 2005 in Thailand. Like Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago also made into the semi-finals in both Miss World and Miss Universe (placing 14th).
- Ghana did not compete in Miss World due to financial crisis.
- Lesotho returned to Miss World after 22 years, Mauritius after 5 years, and Zambia after 4 years.
- Belarus, Denmark, Guatemala, Moldova, Nepal, Paraguay, and Sri Lanka returned to Miss World after 3 years.
- Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Iceland, Korea, and Switzerland also returned to Miss World after last year's Miss World boycott and riots in Nigeria. Costa Rica supposedly compete in Miss World 2002, but pageant organizers decided to boycott her in the Miss World contest because of the death sentence of Amina Lawal.
- This is the first time that Yugoslavia had changed its name into Serbia and Montenegro.
- Philippines was the niece of Miss Universe 1984 3rd runner-up, Maria Desiree Verdadero.
- India and Venezuela grew up in the United States, while Hong Kong in Vancouver, Canada.
- Canada, Nazanin Afshin-Jam, was half-Iranian.
