Brian Battler is a video game character in the King of Fighters series.
[edit] History
Brian was a very powerful linebacker, and was overwhelming in the football field. His impressive physique allowed him to literally plow through the team's offensive line, and his great pleasure was to crush the quarterback, not mattering what or who would cross his way. However, this violent behavior only brought hardships towards Brian, accusing him of unnecessary roughness. Brain held that the philosophy of football was too much for weaklings such as them, and left the football field.
While he was fooling around, Brian encountered his friend, Heavy D!. Heavy D! told Brian he was only wasting his time, and that he should do something good out of his life. Brian told him that the only thing he wanted was to crush a couple of heads, since that was the only thing in what he found pleasure. Heavy D! found this the perfect opportunity, and tells Brian that the King of Fighters tournament would be starting soon, and that it would introduce the team battle mode. Brian was interested by the idea, and accepted Heavy D!'s offer to enter the King of Fighters tournament.
By the end of the King of Fighters '94 tournament, Brian claims he is going to return to playing football for his fans. It is assumed that Brian never again considered to return to the fighting scene as he has not appeared in a canon KOF game ever since. (Although keep in mind he says this in the USA team ending which didn't actually occur.)
[edit] Trivia
- Brian was supposed to come from Football Frenzy. Early designs of Brian depicted him in more traditional football player fashion, but his final design left him without a helmet and a more "casual" uniform. This was done to make him not look exactly like the character Johnny Maximum in the World Heroes series.
- Brian appears as Terry's unlockable Maniac Striker in the console version of KOF 2000.
- Brian makes a cameo in the China stage of KOF '97 and the Mexico stage of KOF 2002.
- Much like his teammates, Brian's arsenal was expanded considerably upon his appearance in KOF '98. Here, he was given the "Rocket Tackle" (a leaping shoulder tackle), a chain throw series beginning with an axe-handle punch ("Brian Hammer") and an anti-air jumping throw (S)DM named the "American Supernova".
- Brian's "Big Bang Tackle" (S)DM may very well pay homage to Buffaloman's "Hurricane Mixer"/"Chojin Cross Slam". Both moves involve tackling an airborne opponent repeatedly, causing his/her body to spin uncontrollably through the air. Note that Brian does not follow the tackles with an aerial slam.
- A running gag seems to exist with the USA Sports team, where they will receive invitations to that year's KOF tournament, only to be beaten senseless and having the invitations taken from them. This happened to them in 1995 and 2000 (with Iori's Team, and Vanessa, Ramon, and Seth being the respective culprits), and to Lucky Glauber in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (with Shermie being the assailant).
