Zero is a character in the King of Fighters series. He made his first and only appearance in The King of Fighters 2001 as the sub-boss.
[edit] History
During the events of King of Fighters 2000, the original Zero was still safe and sound in the main NESTS headquarters. After his awakening, he was disgusted at his clone's feeble attempts to destroy NESTS. His superiors were shocked that the clone would attempt such an outrageous action against their own organization. However, Zero discarded it as an individual action carried out by his clone. What was important now was to plan the scheme for next year, as the leader of NESTS intended to set out their primary plan to world conquest. The fighting data information had already been gathered and saved in the main database of NESTS' computers, so all that was left was to take care of all the fighters once and for all. This way they would rid the world of the strongest fighters they had, leaving the planet hopeless. Zero was more than willing to clean his image to his superiors, but he noticed a peculiar way in which his comrade Igniz had been acting lately.
Zero was summoned by the president of NESTS as the King of Fighters tournament was well underway. There he was faced by Igniz, but said nothing to the president about his suspicions. The president of NESTS commandeded Zero to destroy the winners of the King of Fighters tournament as soon as possible.
As soon as the teams board the blimp, Zero discards the blimp disguise, and sets the ship towards a new course: the main head quarters of NESTS in outer space. Meanwhile, he walks down to the bridge along with his pet lion named Glaugan to face the winning team himself. He is pleased to see that it is K' and his partners who have arrived this far. Everyone is surprised to see Zero still alive, but Zero tells them about his treacherous clone. But this time, things would be very different since they would now face the original (who was much more powerful). Zero, however, knew that facing them alone would be a mistake. He summoned the help of his team members: Krizalid, which Zero had saved his life from the event in 2 years ago. He also summoned Ron, who had a "bone to pick" with Lin, one of K's teammates. He even pitted his own lion in battle, as Zero comes face to face with K', and claims that he won't be getting away this time.
Zero indeed demonstrated that he possessed a great deal of more power and skill than his clone, through putting a great deal of force into his techniques. However, after a moment of letting his guard down, K' and his teammates began their assault, and Zero is unable to resist for too long. He is then defeated by K', as well as his sidekicks defeated by K's partners. He then notes the entire building is caving in, and urges them to leave as the structures collapse around him.
[edit] Trivia
- Original Zero was created because the director of The King of Fighters series claimed "He was dissatisfied with the original design" of the Clone Zero, citing "It must be the mustache." As such, the design was made sleeker and more powerful when Original Zero made his debut in KOF 2001.
- Original Zero's theme song, simply titled 0, shares much of its melody with Igniz's theme. However, Zero's is slightly slower, with an emphasized use of synthesized chords.
- Original Zero does not possess the "dark arts" his clone has.
- Original Zero's pet lion is named Glaugan (グルガン)(King Lion), sometimes translated as Gorgon.
- Original Zero is able to use three different Striker Characters during the match, which makes him a formidable foe with attacks coming from several directions. These strikers are: Glaugan, Ron, and Krizalid.
- Original Zero's SDM White Wave of Blistering Energy is a deceptive technique because it must be blocked from the opposite direction.
