Vereniging voor Diensten in het Buitenland

De Vereniging voor Diensten in het Buitenland is een non-profit organisatie, in 1992 opgericht door Andreas Maislinger, die plaatsen voor Oostenrijkse vrijwilligers inricht in de hele wereld. De gewone 12 maanden vervangende dienst wordt daarbij vervangen door 14 maanden vrijwilligers werk bij een van de partners. Er zijn veel verschillende mogelijkheiden. De Vereniging voor Diensten in het Buitenland is een instelling van de Republiek Oostenrijk, die jonge mannen de kans geeft een vervangende dienstplicht te vervullen. De Vereniging voor Diensten in het Buitenland biedt vervangende dienstplicht in drie onderdelen aan:
- Oostenrijkse Herdenkingsdienst
- Oostenrijkse Maatschappelijke Dienstverlening
- Oostenrijkse Vredesdienst
In Nederland is op dit moment een werkplaats bij UNITED for Intercultural Action ingericht, een europees netwerk tegen nationalisme, fascisme, racisme en steun voor migranten en vluchtelingen. De vrijwilliger van de Vredesdienst werkt mee aan de europese Campagnes en publikaties zoals bijvoorbeeld de Calendar of Internationalism of het European Addressbook against Racism.
De term Gedenkdienst bedacht door Andreas Maislinger, die een gelijknamige organisatie heeft oprichte in 1992.
