FIFA assigns a three-letter code (dubbed FIFA Trigramme) to each of its member and non-member countries. These are the official codes used by FIFA and its continental confederations (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA) as name abbreviations of countries and dependent areas, in official competitions.
[edit] FIFA members
There are currently 207 FIFA members, each one with its unique country code. The application of Montenegro (for whom the code MNE has been reserved) for full membership is to be discussed at the next FIFA congress in May 2007.
[edit] Non-FIFA member codes used by FIFA or confederations
The following codes refer to countries or dependent areas that are currently not affiliated with FIFA, but whose codes either appear in the FIFA results database, or are used regularly by confederation websites

[edit] FIFA and IOC differences
-
Although most FIFA codes are the same as the International Olympic Committee country codes used for the Olympic Games, there are still some discrepancies:
There are also some countries that are affiliated to FIFA and not to the International Olympic Committee, and vice-versa:
- FIFA affiliates and non IOC members (11):
- IOC members and non FIFA affiliates (7):
[edit] FIFA and ISO differences
-
While many FIFA country codes are identical to the corresponding ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes, there are considerably more differences between FIFA and ISO codes than between FIFA and IOC codes.
