This is a page to keep track of all referencing templates to national football teams, including historical differences. Every referencing template contains the national flag, the name of the national football team, and the link to the national footall team page.
How to use: the coding follows the List of FIFA country codes, which designates a 3-letter code to each national association. For example, the country code for Germany is GER.
- To use the referencing template of a country, type code+f. For example, the referencing template of Germany is {{GERf}}, displaying Germany.
- To reverse the flag and the country name, type code+f2. For example, the referencing template {{GERf2}} displays Germany . Note that not all of these templates have been created.
- Sometimes the name of a country was changed in the past, and we need to use a referencing template which displays the old name. Usually FIFA has designated another code for this historical name. For example, the country code for West Germany is FRG, and the referencing template of West Germany is {{FRGf}}, displaying West Germany. Consult the tables below for the time period of the historical name.
- Sometimes the flag of a country was changed in the past, and we need to use a referencing tempalte which displays the old flag. The referencing template for this purpose is usually code+fold, although other more descriptive names can be used. For example, the referencing template {{GERfold}} displays Germany, using the flag of Germany for the periods 1908-1918 and 1933-1935, while the referencing template {{GERfnazi}} displays Germany, using the flag of Germany for the period 1936-1945. Consult the tables below for the time period of the historical flag.
- For women's football teams, type code+wf. For example, the referencing template for Germany's women's team is {{GERwf}}, displaying Germany. There is also a code+wf2 form. E.g. {{GERwf2}}, displaying Germany . Many of these templates are missing, and need to be added.
- For teams that compete under a different name in the Summer Olympics, type IOCcode+of or IOCcode+wof (women's teams). For example, the referencing template for Iran's Olympic team is {{IRIof}}, displaying Islamic Republic of Iran, which differs from {{IRNf}}, displaying Iran.
- In the future, we may consider creating templates for national associations.
