[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, GeorgeMoney/archiveall, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections are right now.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, please see the IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
Thanks for welcoming me. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 00:32, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Welcome
Thank you for welcoming me to Esperanza, although I actually joined on September 21st, 2005 and was member #55. Since they didn't send out welcome notes back then, this is my first :-). Thanks again. NoSeptember talk 17:45, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Status changer
Just to alert you to a tiny little thing that might prove troublesome in the future; the status code that you have in your signature kills all following code. I don't know why, but mine does it too. You don't have to remove it, but it could cause problems. _-M o P-_ 00:49, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changes
Just to let you know, I made some small changes: one on your userpage and a few on the newmessages template to make it look more realistic. — nathanrdotcom (T • C • W) 05:16, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 05:20, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about that "don't edit my userpage", I put that up in December when I made my account. Back then, I thought everybody was an IP vandal, so if I put that, they would really think they couldn't edit it. Also, that's before I learned to revert, so I thought if somebody messes something up, it's gone for good. I will remove it. Thanks for reminding me about it. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 05:23, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 15:25, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Compromise
We should move the Project Cat Committee to Project Cat. We are going to lose our fight for the committee. It's only a matter of time when it's going to be deleted. We either move or keep on fighting. However, it's your choice. Your the creator and you say whether we move or fight. Remember, it's your choice. If we fight, we at least tried to defend and defend is all we got. General Eisenhower
I say we fight a little more and if they keep throwing deletes at us, we should just move to Wikiproject Cats (not catbreeds) and not risk getting totally deleted. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 00:00, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. I fought a very great war so I can fight a "Project War I." I will fight for this project. General Eisenhower
- What I think we should do is count the number of keeps and deletes. If the keep is less than the delete, let's try to have the keep more than the (current) number of deletes. So if there was 5 keep and 7 delete, by the end of the week there are 9 keeps and 8 deletes, we should keep fighting. If we don't......we'll probably have to move to Wikiproject....--Oreos 22:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Joined up
I've just joined your committee! As I previously stated, I'm very busy at the moment, so I won't be a great member at first, but I felt I had to join as an attempt to help the fight against deletion. Also, if you look at the edit section of Wikipedia:Cat Lovers' Committee, you'll see that there is a huge space between were Sceptre joined and I did. I'm not certain why - perhaps it is something to do with Sceptre's image?- but if I sign myself any higher, I just come up next to Sceptre's cat. Is there any way you can fix this? Sorry to adress you with this problem, but I have no idea what's causing it, and even less on how to mend it. Sergeant Snopake, 22:36, 19th of April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Block
{{unblock|Somebody has blocked my IP address, and now I cant edit!. I am a valuable contributor and I have over 700 edits. It says I did impostor/lame attempt at IP spoofing. I didn't do any IP spoofing.}} The block message is: Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Freakofnurture for the following reason (see our blocking policy): "Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "A.69.227.69.6". The reason given for A.69.227.69.6's block is: "impostor/lame attempt at IP spoofing"."
Apparently somebody using your IP address registered the account A.69.227.69.6 (talk • contribs) which is an inappropriate and confusing username, because it resembles (most likely) somebody else's IP address. — Apr. 20, '06 [12:02] <freakofnurxture|talk>

- It did not "destroy" anything; it substituted the templates, which were subsequently deleted. You are the one who has now left the userpage broken, with two attempted includes of templates that no longer exist.
- Please, consider your actions more carefully next time, and be aware that claiming that a helpful and not entirely necessary function that I take the bother of doing is "vandalism" is a very strong violation of several core policies, notably of maintaining civility and assuming good faith.

Unfortunatly although you do have way more then 42 edits, you only have only 82 article space edits, far less then the 500 required. Please submit your request again when you have 500 article space contributions. Happy editing! Prodego talk 04:22, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA
I noticed that General Eisenhower tried to nominate you for adminship. Unfortunately, he did not comlpete the process, so you haven't actually been nominated yet. See WP:RFA for details on how to nominate if you want to nominate yourself fully! ConDemTalk 01:44, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I would never want to nominate myself. It just makes it harder. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 01:46, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, apparently, some editors look kindly on self-nomination, since it shows enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the project. But you're right, others don't like it so much. By the way, i'd wait a bit anyway, til June maybe, like you said at the top of your talk page... ConDemTalk 01:53, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your welcome message
Thanks for adding to the list of templates. However, I'm sure you realize that the {{PAGENAME}} variable can produce unwanted results. The user will see the code if he clicks "edit," and if the welcome is archived the PAGENAME variable won't make sense.. You may wish to consider subst:ing the PAGENAME. Problem is, you can't write {{subst:PAGENAME}} on the template itself, since that would evaluate as you made the change, making PAGENAME static. Instead, you have to include a variable like "nocode", and then run the template with nocode=subst:. For example, running a template containing {{{{{nocode}}}PAGENAME}} as {{subst:template name|nocode=subst:}} produces {{subst:PAGENAME}}, which then evaluates on the user talk page, making a static copy. See {{subst:User:Iamthejabberwock/Welcome}} for an example. If you want to make this change to your templates, I'd be happy to do it. Thanks, TheJabberwʘck 20:30, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tip of the Day
I saw you had written Wikipedia:Tip of the day/June 30, 2006. It was good, but maybe you should use something free and that is aviable for everyone to use. Even though a good number of Windows users have Office, not very many people will have Frontpage. Or any commercial editor for that matter. I suggest that you go for something free that can be found on many platforms to achieve this. Just my two cents. ~Linuxerist E/L/T 22:18, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know any. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 22:27, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- There is Nvu, which can do this job. However, I just realised that this can be accomplished by some simple changes, and work with Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Nvu, & Mozilla! How does this draft look? ~Linuxerist E/L/T 22:55, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your recent edit to my sub-page designated for vandalism.
I know you mean well, but in your edit (which I've just reverted), you just transcluded a bunch of pages into that page, thereby a) making the page look ugly and b) thereby increasing the page load time.
Please feel free to add text/your name, etc as you like, but I don't think it's too much to ask to keep to the page format and not transclude any of my pages (especially userboxes - including that makes the page load slow and there's no need to transclude that page, there's links to that elsewhere).
It's a scrolling box with people's comments/names/etc. Please keep to that format.
Thanks. — nathanrdotcom (T • C • W) 02:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

The article is actually pieced together from, what I could tell, about 5 or 6 different webpages. Basically just copy and pasted into the wikipedia page. I didn't bother linking them all as that would have taken way more effort than I was willing to put in. Batman2005 02:59, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why I made those edits…
The template {{switch}} has been made obsolescent by the new feature {{#switch}}, which is much more efficient and—more important—invulnerable to vandalism: {{switch}} is likely to be deleted when the conversion process is finished. Thank you very much for your advice, it was much appreciated! Uh, when will the votes be in, exactly? And just between you and me, I don't think Historian derserves to be in this committee, I mean, he voted Delete! He only changed his vote after I challenged him on the subject, and he removed my second comment on his talk page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sergeant Snopake (talk • contribs).

Ah, I see! Well, anyway, the guy still voted Delete, which (in my opinion) seems a little hypocritical, to say the least. But if he's on the committee, he's on the committee, I guess. I have a signature now! Sergeant Snopake 23:38, 22 April 2006 (UTC) 22 of April 2006 Oh, I also supported you in your adminship! Sergeant Snopake 23:39, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

He said that I'd been encouraging people to vote keep too much, and that it's 'especially harmful', so I wrote back, was very polite, said sorry etc, and asked him if I could still invite members to join using the 'whatlinkshere' feature, as long as I don't encourage them to vote. He said yes, 'however, it would probably be best to wait until the conclusion of the deletion discussion'. I mean, come on! You encourage people to vote yes or no in real life! The fact that this admin sees everyone as sheep that just go along with anything that anyone suggests to them, is hurtful and irritating. Anyway, What should I do? Wait or ignore him/her? It's not like it's an actual rule, he/she just suggested it. Sergeant Snopake 15:17, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think you should listen- Admins don't care what the people think, all they care about is what they think. I think if you don't listen, he will block you. And all the newpages that are one-paragraph long, they delete, because they think they are not worthy to be articles. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 22:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

He jumps on me in the morning to wake me up. I can't sit alone for 5 minutes with out him jumping up. He's as big as some dogs. He acts like a dog chasing Echo. He's not stupid... just way out there. I hope he grows up SOON! He's white and black.

Thier all indoor cats, but we let them go out on our contained balcony several times a day. They form a line. Very patient at first but then demanding! Our elderly neighbors let them in sometimes from our shared balcony too.

[edit] Wikibreak
Hi! Great news on the cat lovers' committee front! How wonderful!! I am taking another weeks worth of wikibreak, because my brother cannot do anything for 2 weeks after the operation (so that's another week), and he won't be fully healed for a further 6 weeks, and as my father works abroad, he was the man of the house, so all difficult physical jobs had fallen to him - and now us. I also have a moderate cold - most likely from spending 6 hours at the hospital everyday for 3 days! I'm very sorry, and should be back on form next week! Sergeant Snopake 10:33, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Re-evaluating my lifestyle, I don't think I need a full on wikibreak. I've found some time for editing today, and I'm feeling a lot better from my cold. So, I'll just put a sick/ill template on my user page. I don't know why I keep telling you this sort of thing. I suppose because I think of you as my boss. :S Sergeant Snopake 18:37, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Don't blame me :(. Some people were complaining that it showed "signs of immaturity" and was "too long", so this is my attempt to come to an agreement. MoppEr Speak! 00:39, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- I really don't know why people think that "your signature makes you immature", or "how many lines your sig takes up is bad". My sig takes up many lines. Also, I don't know why in your RfA, people were talking about "you don't have enough Main Namespace edits". Everything on Wikipedia is all linked to articles in the main namespace. For example, if people have nice userpages, then new editors will stay and edit articles. If you edit user talk pages, you warn them for vandalism of articles. Categories help categorize articles. Wikipedia namespace things such as WikiProjects all want to help articles. What I am trying to say is that everything on wikipedia is related to articles, and that's all that matters. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 00:50, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- When you mention that, please reduce it. Five lines it too much. Thanks! Computerjoe's talk 19:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] autoblocks
Unfortunately, Wikipedia software automatically blocks everyone using a particular IP address whenever any other user using that IP address is blocked. There's no way to turn off autoblocks and no way to give immunity to reputable established users, and no way of knowing in advance what ISP or IP address a given user is using or how many other users might be affected by a block of that user. Usually, autoblocks expire after not too long. -- Curps 06:47, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism warning "2". (Not a vandalism warning)
Hi,
I have corrected your warning to say it was the first warning, if you had taken the time to read the message left on my talk page before titled "Vandalising" you would have noticed that it is infact NOT a vandalism warning. It is a message from Sceptre who I accused of vandalizing my userpage saying that he believes it is not considered vandalism, and because he's an admin he feels he can do whatever.
Secondly your message
- Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to User:HighwayCello. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox.
continues to show you do not read things carefully enough. My edit summary was
- "sorry to vandalize, but I came accross your page and Pokemon due suck"
I already knew far-right-extremists like yourself consider this vandalism, but as I said in the summary I felt it was justified.
In conclusion you should read more, and write less. Preferabley you should do the reading before the writing.
Good day,
--The Mad Bomber 07:36, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- It was still vandalism, no matter what your edit summary says. And you shouldn't call people "far-right-extremists". Please see WP:NPA --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 07:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Script request
Hi GeorgeMoney. I made a quick script that changes the "edit this page" tab to say only "edit".
addOnloadHook( function() { document.getElementById( "ca-edit" ).firstChild.innerHTML = "edit"; } );
Also, I don't mean to be a dick, but your signature is gigantic. Would you consider revising it so that it's (at least) under 150 characters? Having such a big signature really mucks up the wiki code. Thanks. ~MDD4696 02:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox
You're welcomed to use the Sandbox, but please don't keep putting Nathanrdotcom's user page there. Other people may also want to use the Sandbox and by doing so, it may confuse them should they need to test their edits. Also, the Sandbox is not meant as a mirror to one's user page. Thanks.—G.He 21:20, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Quote form the sandbox Welcome to the Wikipedia Sandbox! This page allows you to carry out experiments. I was doing some experiments. I have the right to do anything to the sandbox. How do you know I wasn't just experimenting with mirroring pages? It also says Content will not stay permanently; this page is automatically cleaned every 12 hours.. So, if it won't stay permanently, then why do you care? It doesn't matter what kind of experiment I do, that's my business.
- Look at this edit where somebody copied an article into the sandbox; nobody got confused. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 21:29, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My Sig
Hi, and thanks for your concern. I 've already shortened it significantly. Thanks, – Xolatron 15:29, 6 Telona 2006 (7 May)
- Why not just have a template with that big code, then use SUBST:. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 17:41, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'm not quite sure what you mean... what does "SUBST:" do?... That big code is a template... I'm farily certain I've done everything possible to shorten my sig length. It has to take the date from User:Xolatron/SW date and subst it in... which is a very complicated process... involving User:Xolatron/subst SW date. To see how my sig is rendered behind the scenes, see User:Xolatron/Signature. – Xolatron 22:14, 6 Telona 2006 (7 May)

I don't think I can support your most recent creation being copied into template space.
The template space should be reserved for more useful stuff (userboxes, warnings, math, article templates, etc) and not spoofs.

[edit] Re: Image
Hi George,
Thanks for modifying the image. It looks great. Anyway I guess I should wait for Mopper to get me his version & then select which one's better.Cheers

[edit] Re: Image:Main_Page_Firefox_2.jpg
I have some questions about your browser's screenshot:
- How did you get the rounded corners (in the page and in all the tabs)?
- How did you get your IP address displayed on the bottom of your browser?
Thanks. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 23:14, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- First of all, that's noy my IP address, that's Wikipedia's. It is an extention for firefox that shows the IP for every website I visit. The extension is called "show IP" and is located here. Secondly, to round your corners, add the following to your monobook.css:
/* make a few corners round, only supported by moz/firefox/other gecko browsers for now */ #p-cactions ul li, #p-cactions ul li a { -moz-border-radius-topleft: 1em; -moz-border-radius-topright: 1em; } #content { -moz-border-radius-topleft: 1em; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 1em; } div.pBody { -moz-border-radius-topright: 1em; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 1em; }
Hope that answers your questions. --GeorgeMoney T·C 01:33, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ah. Well I found one that's called MyIP that does what I thought :p Thanks.
- As for the rounded corners, I'll see if that works. ..and it works. What about the rounded corners on Firefox tabs? Thanks. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 01:43, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- The rounded tabs are from a special theme called SphereGnome located at http://www.geocities.com/edhume/ . It also can be found at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/166/ .--GeorgeMoney T·C 01:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- That might conflict with the one I have. Too bad I'm not resourceful enough to edit the theme I have. Oh well, I might alternate between the two. Thanks. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 03:36, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers
[edit] Reminder...
When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.
Also, I noticed that you used 27 warnings in one edit(!) on User talk:Imnotemo1117 ([4]). Next time, try to keep your warnings relevant and concise. Maybe use less warnings next time. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 22:34, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I made those warnings when I thought Wikipedia was a joke and I could do whatever I wanted, so I warned that user 100 times for 1 case of vandalism. But, that was when I didn't really care about wikipedia. Now I care about wikipedia. --GeorgeMoney T·C 22:37, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Concur with the above, that's just fscking excessive!
- <grin> Do behave a bit more, of course! :-) Do still try to be somewhat creative though. Just 'cause it's serious, doesn't mean it doesn't have to be fun. :-P Kim Bruning 22:40, 14 May 2006 (UTC) Also, see page history for earlier incarnations of this comment

- And about my Wikipedia opinion, my story begins:
- Once apon a time, I had to do a report in December 2005, so I went to WP. Then I got an account, and created an article. It went for an AfD, and the result was move. But, I was so new, that I thought they deleted my hard work. So, I got mad and didn't log on for a while. Still holding a grudge against wikipedia, I started being a vandal (look at my early contribs). Then on April 14 2006, I saw someone added a template to a page. I looked at the template and saw it was protected. Then I looked at the page history to see who protected it. From there, I clicked on peoples' usernames and saw they had userboxes. So, I said, "Hey. I want userboxes too!". So, I got a bunch of userboxes. Then, I wanted more userboxes, so I joined random clubs for the boxes. After that, nathanrdotcom welcomed me to Esperanza (one of the clubs I joined). So, I looked at his userpage, and saw he was a member of an unofficial club called the Birthday Committee that was created by one person. So, on April 19, I created my own committee called the Cat Lovers' Committee (which got moved to WikiProject Cats). Then, I guess I got addicted to wikipedia, and now I can't leave my computer. So, now, I am here typing this long story.... Now I am about to type my edit summary. I am about to press "save page". But before I save, I have to sign. GeorgeMoney T·C 23:28, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion
I deleted the template because it clearly violates our criteria for speedy deletion, as I explained in my deletion summary. However, I have neither the time nor the inclination to work out a bot to clean up after people who have chosen to violate policy, and as far as I can tell this is not required of me by our deletion policy. The simple solution is to not use encyclopedia-space to express points of view, period, especially those which (per Jimbo) are clearly divisive and/or inflammatory. Yeah, I'll join, and I put my name on your spamlist, too. You find Esperanza spam annoying? What do Esperanza do, anyway? They're supposed to strengthen Wikipedia's sense of community and maintain a support network for its members, but I've never actually seen it do any strengthening or maintaining, though you do always seem like a pleasent bunch of people, especially Covington, he/she (not sure - leaning towards she) is always very nice. [edit] User:Userboxuser
Oy vey... First, he's a sockpuppet, so you gotta put the notices up. Second, I don't think this is the best solution. If almost all the userboxes get deleted, there's lots of support for a "Gallery," similar to Wikipedia:Userboxes, except that it would have code instead of template links. It's the same idea, but better to have it in Wikipediaspace than Userspace. But maybe this guy can be a testing ground for this idea. TheJabberwʘck 04:21, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I may be in need of your help
Hope you've recovered from the Bop. MoP hit me pretty hard and I had to take an Aspirin. Just following up on a Sock that Jeff3000 tagged the other night and you "evidenced" him a little further. He disappeared after that. I may(probably) be a little premature but I believe the same user has returned in the form of this guy. He is just starting out but already his edits are very similar to the previous sock(or pair of socks as it were). If you happen across him keep an eye on his edits. - I am very sure he is a sockpuppet, because he seems to target articles of countries, and he is randomly linking words like "villages". Also both people seem to keep removing the {{ASEAN}} template from the Phillipines article. —G.He has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. [edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available
After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:25, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Filter
Hi George, I came across the filter you set up for Nathan, and I understand your reasons behind doing it. I really appreciate your looking out for others, but I don't think this is the way! First of all: a user talk page is for all Wikipedians to communicate directly with each other, there should not be a list of rules (other than standard policy) or a filtering committee determining what someone is 'allowed' to say to someone else. Imagine what would happen if everyone started doing it this way... Second, it sort of assumes bad faith from every single user arriving at a talk page, as if the whole Wikipedia community is out to get Nathan, and he needs protection from that. I guarantee you that that will do him more harm than good, as even users who were positive or neutral towards him might frown at 'not being allowed' to post something at his talk page. Anyway, I discussed this with Nathan, and as far as I know he has contacted you about it. Please remove it, and have the filter page deleted. Kind regards, --JoanneB 08:07, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi George, from a comment on Nathan's talk page, I realised that you thought I meant you were ignoring his wishes. I didn't think that, as I knew you were on a wikibreak, and realised that you couldn't have responded yet. I know Nathan's comments that he wanted it removed would have been enough for you, but I guess I just wanted you to know some of my reasoning behind my objections to it, for the future. My reasons for proposing to take it down were not related to his desires to still have the filter or not, if he would have wanted it to stay, I would have done the same thing (and I would have deleted the whole thing myself if necessary), for the exact reasons above. Kind regards, --JoanneB 21:48, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikibreak
Hey, George! Great to see you back. I hope you had a nice time on your wikibreak to Yosemite National Park (or an adequate one, at least)! ;)
About Nathan, maybe you're being a little hasty? Do you really want to ruin your friendship over this? I appreciate that Nathan isn't being very helpful with his 'shit happens' attitude, but he's under a lot of stress at the moment, which is why you created this filter in the first place. This situation just happened to some of my "real life" friends, and it's very much the same as this (something one of them said got lost in translation). Think about it. BTW, I've left a similar message on Nathan's page, so I'm not taking sides! Sergeant Snopake 20:36, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Please stop.
Stop this mindless crusade against me just because you took something I said wrongly and I didn't add an emoticon. I'm not your enemy. If I was your enemy, would I have helped you with your userpage/etc? No, my comments belong on your talk because they relate to the subjects that they were posted about. See my comments on my talk. Seriously, you need to act a bit more mature. Removing all traces of me on your user/talk pages is not going to remove me from Wikipedia.
Remove your image. I'm not asking. Remove it now or it'll be removed for you. It's unencyclopedic and Wikipedia is not your own personal playground to namecall people you think have attacked you in some way. The adult thing to do in this situation is talk. I'll be here if you want to talk this out maturely. If not, and you want to continue with this ridiculous namecalling crusade over a small misunderstanding, you can stay off my user/talk pages.
On the other hand, it's quite funny how someone who claimed so adamantly that he's a friend, defended me etc, would be so quick to attack me whenever the mood strikes. Kinda shows a person's true colours. — Nathan (talk) 20:37, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it's going a little far to make an image against him. Surely you can remove it? Do you truly not care for this friendship? Sergeant Snopake 20:55, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "No Nathan"
Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

[edit] Spam
May I ask you are a little more civil. Making comments about projects does not generally boost the WikiLove in the community. If you have issues with any publications, I think you should address the matter with them, rather than externally attacking them. I hope you can see this how it is intended,
- "Don't worry, the spam isn't bad and annoying like the Esperanza and Community Justice spam. My spam is just news and events."
Thanks! Ian13/talk 13:27, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Can I also ask you remove the link to your shocksite (well, or whatever you call it), titled "Don't click this link!" on your page. I think some editors would not like your loop of JS, and may not know how to escape it. Ian13/talk 13:35, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ok, I'll remove the link. But I don't know how you could think that saying that "EA spam and CJ spam is annoying" is uncivil. First of all, I said that over two weeks ago. Secondly, people sign up for those projects, and it doesn't say anywhere, "Note: When you sign up for this project, you will get spam!". Third, all spam is annoying, so spam that you didn't know you were going to get is really annoying. Fourth, I could get many people who agree with me in the fact that "colorful, badly formatted, spam is annoying". --GeorgeMoney T·C 15:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

- Hi George, of course you're allowed to think spam is annoying, and yes, many people agree with you (although many others don't), but regarding point two and three of your argument: here's the way the Esperanza membership page looked like the moment you signed up: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members&oldid=48600191. --JoanneB 15:31, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding the article High School Musical 2
When you reverted the vandalism on High School Musical 2 by 71.235.64.130 it reverted it to another vandal's edit (69.138.237.251.) Be careful: sometimes two vandals will strike a page before it is reverted and using the rollback won't work. I fixed it for you but be careful about stuff like that. --Evan Robidoux 16:14, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE:?
Yeah, I kinda messed up there; he was still on AIV so I went to his userpage and saw the block notices. I checked the block log manually and didn't see any blocks for the user; so, I removed it because I didn't want any AIV admins thinking he was already blocked. However, after checking the block log from the template, I saw that he was in fact blocked, so I reverted myself. Master of Puppets FREE BIRD! 18:20, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] time for a holiday
G'day George,
I think it's time that you started concentrating on those aspects of Wikipedia that aren't Computerjoe. You'll be surprised how many there are. As you two have been continually sniping at each other lately, I am going to enforce a holiday for the two of you: you'll stop using your editing privileges to get at one another, starting now, or you will be deprived of those privileges for a set period of time. We tend to be fairly patient on Wikipedia, but this is not High School, and your constant bickering is counter-productive and unwelcome. [edit] Thanks
After trying to fix the script, I noticed some bugs to other things that I did not catch before. I gave up trying to fix GML. Fotunetely, however, I made an IE revert that looks identical to the regular ones (revert (vandal) and AGF revert) but works slightly differently a while back. I added a case-wise if that switches to IE revert mode for "&" cases, like [5]. I will past it into VoA/monobook shortly.Voice-of-AllTalk 23:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, for a while I did not join mainly because I thought I would have to be 13. Then, the day before by 12th birthday, I decided to look at the form. Seeing as it had no age, I joined. ~Linuxerist A/C/E/L/P/S/T/Z 12:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blnguyen's RfA
Hello George. Thank you for your full support and humurous comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. If you need admin assistance, feel free to ask me. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. I look forward to working with you in the future, hopefully as an admin. In the meantime, enjoy the American summer. Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 04:16, 31 May 2006 (UTC) |
[edit] <span class=votesupport>?</span>
Just curious, what exactly does that do? --Rory096 04:36, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have set some settings im my monobook.css so when I put that, so it formats my votes. Also, I put something in my monobook.js that puts voting buttons in the custom edit toolbar (next to the redirect button).
If you want to use it put the following in your (monobook).css and you can edit it to your liking:
/* Voting */ .votesupport { background-color: lightgreen; color: Black; fontweight: Bold; } .voteoppose { background-color: red; color: Black; } .votekeep { background-color: lightblue; color: Black; } .votedelete { background-color: red; color: Black; } .rfacomment { background-color: orange; color: Black; } .commentimportant { background-color: red; color: Black; } .commentmediumpriority { background-color: yellow; color: Black; } .commentlowpriority { background-color: lightgreen; color: Black; }
Also, you can use <div> tags too, not only <span>. Thanks, --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:43, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- That's pretty cool, nifty little tool. --Rory096 04:57, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Another thing you can do to help you find your own comments and votes is put <span class=rory096votesupport>I SUPPORT THIS USER!!!</span>, then it will highlight your votes (if you put the class "rory096votesupport" in your monobook). I have also added a cool new feature by making the borders curved, and I made a user-specific. Look:
/* Voting */ /* Curved Borders */ .votesupport { background-color: lightgreen; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .voteoppose { background-color: red; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .votekeep { background-color: lightblue; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .votedelete { background-color: red; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .rfacomment { background-color: orange; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .commentimportant { background-color: red; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .commentmediumpriority { background-color: yellow; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } .commentlowpriority { background-color: lightgreen; color: Black; border:1px solid green; display:inline; -moz-border-radius:20px; padding:0px 5px 3px 5px; } /* User-specific highlighting used for tracking your own comments */ /* No curves this time. All highlights are red */ .YOURUSERNAMEcomment { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEcommentimportant { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEcommentmediumpriority { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEcommentlowpriority { background-color: red; color: Black; } /* -------------------- Voting ------------------------ */ .YOURUSERNAMEvotesupport { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEvoteoppose { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEvotekeep { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMEvotedelete { background-color: red; color: Black; } .YOURUSERNAMErfacomment { background-color: red; color: Black; }

I like that idea (and user name :). However, we cannot use a non-existant user's userspace, nor is this a suitable enough reason to create the user. I suggest we rename it "Random Picture of the Day" and move it to the Wikipedia namesapce. Then there would be a good enough rationale (seeing as it is random) and it would not be in either space. Wikipedia:Random_picture_of_the_day perhaps? ~Linuxerist A/C/E/P/S/T/Z 03:54, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- First of all, things in the userspace have the space chance of getting on WP:MFD and Wikipedia namespace things. Secoundly, we can easily write over copyvios. Thirdly, db-owner can only be used if you created the page I believe. ~Linuxerist A/C/E/P/S/T/Z 04:01, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

To Prodego: I've apologised on my talk, I really don't think he's going to follow the example. — Nathan (talk) 03:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
To Prodego: Nope, I got a 'thank you'. No apology, no nothing. Just a lousy thank you. I have half a mind to tell him to stay the hell off my talk page in future (I will not because it's incivil) but that's how I feel, with all the stress he caused me. So basically, he can be incivil to anyone he wants, attack anyone he wants, make judgement calls on anyone he likes, just as long as he gets what he wants. Who the hell voted this guy in? (incivil) — Nathan (talk) 04:15, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Nathan, I think you're becoming a little too obsessed over this. Remember what happened when I got obsessed with a stalker list? --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- No, I'm falling very short of WP:POINT in getting my point across. Exploding Boy's actions (in order to get what he wanted) were unacceptable. He resorted to rudeness, incivility, personal attacks and making judgements about someone he has no idea about (me) in order to get what he wanted. If anyone needs an example of the type of admin we shouldn't have on Wikipedia, now you know where to look. (is that incivil? oh well) — Nathan (talk) 04:23, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Maybe you're right. I don't know how he ever became an admin. Also, I don't know why we are bothering Prodego with our little discussion, so we should take this to my talk page. --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:30, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- However, if Exploding Boy apologises to me, I'll be perfectly happy to delete my words above and have some respect for him. Right now, I have none.
- Those RfA's are tricky. When you vote for the person, you're voting for what you know now, rather than the type of person they become later. Look at Cyde's RfA and how he said he was done with userboxes. etc etc. See you on your talk. — Nathan (talk) 04:39, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

- (Edit Conflict) I wish there would be an easier way to desysop somebody than having to get a steward to do it. And, I wish there was a "Requests for De-adminship" which would be the exact opposite of a "Request for Adminship" And I wish b-crats could remove peoples' powers instead of only set them. That is bad, because what if a b-crat presses the wrong button and makes a vandal a steward. Then, they can de-sysop anybody, and nobody can do anything unless they get developer intervention. --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:52, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- In a logical world, we'd have a way to bring an admin's actions to the community so he/she can be judged by his/her peers. That's what an RfC should be, but a lot of people just use it as a witch hunt. — Nathan (talk) 04:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah. You're right. Now what RfC's do is get an admin and all of his friends to agree with him making the non-admin look like the bad guy. --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:59, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- If it wasn't for people like JoanneB, HappyCamper, Prodego and some others, I would really lose faith in the admins here, then I would wonder if we're really building an encyclopedia or manipulating users. — Nathan (talk) 05:03, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, ususally after users become admins, they start to stop majorly contributing to articles (aside from vandal-fighting). --GeorgeMoney T·C 05:05, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userfied a box from a role account
Hi. I'm just letting you know that I've moved User:Userboxuser/HateIE to User:GeorgeMoney/HateIE. You may want to update any links. The plan seems to be that we're not going to use role accounts like that. See Wikipedia talk:The German solution. By the way, I'm not sure where the lines are going to be drawn now, but this particular box seems to me like an envelope-pusher; I'd rename/reword it to avoid the word "hate", if it were mine. -GTBacchus(talk) 19:06, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Would "dislike" be ok? --GeorgeMoney T·C 19:15, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sure. I can think of lots of words to describe how I feel about Internet Explorer, none of them positive. I dislike it, shun it, repudiate it, mock it, advise strongly against it, pity those in its clutches, and delete it from my hard drive regularly. I'd be surprised if a userbox claiming any of those things were deleted. I'm not trying to come down on you, but you know how the atmosphere around userboxes is lately. Feel free to have fun, I'd just avoid a word like "hate". -GTBacchus(talk) 19:53, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your TfD close
Greetings! I re-opened and re-closed the debate on Template:Listadmins - while you called the close correctly, a non-admin should never close a deletion debate with respect to a page that he or she was involved in creating. Indeed, an admin should really never do so either. You have the admin qualities, I think, but the duties are tied to the position. Be patient and you'll get there. Cheers! - Please see rule #3 of Wikipedia:Deletion process#Non-Administrators closing discussions. Yes, a non-admin can disclose a discussion, but "Non-administrators should not close discussions in which they have been involved". Cheers! BD2412 T 23:46, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Tssk, I was being complimentary. You took an admin action (closing a discussion in which you yourself had been involved) - but you did it correctly. In short, you did the wrong thing right - I'm not suggesting that you acted with malice or disregard for the rules, just that you unknowingly did something not permitted. However, perhaps you should be in a position to be so permitted. BD2412 T 00:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Main Page Firefox 2.jpg
I tagged Image:Main Page Firefox 2.jpg with the {{badJPEG}} tag because images such as screenshots, maps, flags, graphs, charts, diagrams, and other images which have a few well-defined colors, sharp edges, and large blocks of color should almost always be saved in the PNG format, not the JPEG format, because JPEG suffers from compression artifacts. The JPEG format is best for photographs, paintings, and similar pictures. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload for more information. Feel free to let me know if you have other questions. —Bkell (talk) 04:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFCU clerk
Please read Essjay's comment at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Requests#Clerk role & impartiality. While I think your comment regarding David91 is accurate in every respect, it does not seem to fit Essjay's conception of our role. (There is also discussion at User:Essjay/Archives/34#More clerkcruft.) Cheers. Thatcher131 16:10, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Essjay made a comment somewhere about "If you can express the length of time in months and years rather than days and weeks, its too long for checkuser." I would tend to think that comment could be safely made, although I'm still trying to be very cautious myself. I asked him after I made this comment and he said it was fine because it was neutral and provided useful information. The time frame might fall into the same category, but I think the evidence and fishing issues did not (although as I said, you are entirely correct). If course, if someone who is not a clerk came along and made the same comment it would be no problem at all. :) Thatcher131 16:22, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

HEllo GeorgeMoney. I am Thetruthbelow, and I came here today to ask you to assist with a Wikiproject that myself and Moe Epsilon will be starting around the 26th of June. It will be called "The User Page Design Commitee", and we will assist users in creating User pages. I was wondering if you would like to be out third and last founder of the project. Give me your thoughts. Thetruthbelow 21:25, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] formatting
hey george whatever you are doing, I can't view the pages anymore. Can you go back to the way they were before? Thetruthbelow 02:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- can we not have the headers? It was better before and it really is messing up my IE. Thetruthbelow 02:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- THe problem was that the header was going over the text, and therefore erasing half of the text from the computer. Thetruthbelow 02:56, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- I am making new headers, tell me what you think.Thetruthbelow 03:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe we shouldn't do header. The title of the page without them is ugly, but at least it doesn't mess up the formatting of the page. Thetruthbelow 03:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Would you have any objection to me changing the project name to "Wikiproject:User page help"? Let me know, as I won't make any changes till after I have your opinion. Thetruthbelow 04:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Good Suggestion about the move, but I already moved the page and all of its sub pages. The title is now Wikiproject:User Page Help. Thanks, Thetruthbelow 04:36, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Just as bad
Sorry, but the header is just as bad. I tried viewing it on another computer, and It is still bad. I am going to revert it. Thanks for trying. Thetruthbelow 04:52, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- It was overflowing and eating the text. I think that we are better without the header, although I love headers myself. Thetruthbelow 04:59, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] perfect
yes. Its is perfect. After you do the first page though, let me know to see if it is alright. Thanks, Thetruthbelow 05:09, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- well, the height is good, in that it is not eating the text. However, the left side of the heading doesn't go all the way over, so that you see half of the first letter. Thetruthbelow 05:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you see about half of the first letter of the orignal heading. Thetruthbelow 05:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Its good, except that the links below it to the other pages, such as the main page, aren't there. Good we just not do the headers? It isn't working. Thetruthbelow 06:14, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you see about half of the first letter of the orignal heading. Thetruthbelow 05:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

- Try one, and I will check it to make sure it works. Thank you for doing all this, I really appreciate it. Thetruthbelow 06:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Headers
Lets not use the big headings on the Wikipedia namespace only our userspace. Its probably highly frowned upon to do it elsewhere. — The King of Kings 06:31, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, its more trouble than it is worth. Thanks for trying though. Thetruthbelow 06:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- The trouble I was talking about was the possible complaints from users, such as the admin that tried to delete us in the first place (I think you know to whom I refer ;D. The page is okay without them, and I really don't want any more negative attention on the page. I appreciate all of your work though. Thetruthbelow 06:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- By the way, I think the font family part of the project is really useful. We have done really good on a project that was only started today. Congrats everyone. Thetruthbelow 06:46, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] edit summaries
Here's a sort of technical question for you and anyone who reads your talk page. I just saw what looks like an experiemental edit summary here that I thought was quite interesting in a WP:AGF sort of way. It got me wondering: Can monobooks and scripts be set up to allow you to choose from multiple edit summary options quickly, so that this sort of edit summary could be used (on a case by case basis) by people while on RC patrol? NoSeptember 19:19, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Given the way people often complain when rollback is used for something other than obvious vandalism (seeing it as an attack even if it was not intended to be one), having a bunch of friendly summaries to choose from could be useful. This could start a good trend :-). Thanks, NoSeptember 19:37, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Banner
Hey george, do you like the banner I made for the wikiproject? Tell me what you think. Thetruthbelow 19:34, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rfcub
I don't know what you and VOA are doing; it seems to work either way, but your latest change seems to have a typo somewhere in it as the page now reads eonly>eonly>. Thatcher131 21:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- When I actually use the template (subst'd, if that makes a difference) there is an extra "</includonly>" in plain text at the bottom of the page. Thatcher131 22:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- I made some tests with different versions of the template. As it is at this moment, the templates work fine if subst'd but do not work if not subst'd. I won't pretend to understand why. I think some of the archived cases are not subst'd, which may have made it look like it was broken. I've been substituting all along and if that's what it takes to work right that's fine with me. If there is a way to make it work both subst'd and not that would be best I guess. Thatcher131 23:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- I'm going to copy the templates into my sandbox and play with them a bit. If I can't make them work when transcluded, I'll go with your plan until someone can figure out something better. Thatcher131 00:10, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFCU Clerks discussion page
I moved most of the discussion to the talk page, so the main Clerks' Noticeboard can have the requests from checkusers rather than boatloads of discussion. Its a boldness, and I hope it makes things easier for us. If the watchlists don't work out, it the talk may have to be moved to yet a different page, but for now I think it looks pretty good. I'm sure many of you who are using monobook have noticed recently an ugly sitenotice saying something about wikimania and scholarships. Well, to remove that, put the following in your monobook.css:
/* rm sitenotice */ #siteNotice { display: none; }
I hope this is of any help to you!
Thanks, --GeorgeMoney T·C 19:06, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- George, it's cool that you're trying to help others, but please remember that Wikipedia is not your own site. Wikimedia has certain messages they want to get across, and if you don't want to see them, fine, but describing it as an 'ugly site notice' is kind of... 'biting the hand that feeds you', isn't it? In the future, please to keep it kind of neutral, I don't think the thing would have worked less without the 'ugly' in the description. Kind regards, --JoanneB 20:08, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Any idea how to vertically align an image in a table? In particular, I need it for Portal:Music/Subportals (so the images don't float above the text). I tried using style="align:center;" valign="bottom", but it didn't do anything. Thanks, Λυδαcιτγ 04:11, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I decided to try my hand at-what is it? 'ASCII'?-art, and used the subject of many a vandalizm: pie. It started off as a kind of sailboat, so the 'pies' would move progressivly father across the page. That tuned into a 'V', and the rest kind of spelled itself. Then I made it 3D.
Or in other words, I have no idea whatsoever. I like the word, though. I'm going to keep it and make it my catchphrase for vandalizm boxes. :) 69.145.123.171 Hello! Saturday, June 24, 2006, 05:17 (UTC)

- Ever since the 2006 FIFA World Cup began, I've been forced to go through so many edit conflicts when editing that page. I think that for extra-frustrated people who can never get their version in, there should be "force save" button to paste in their version no matter what. However, since two people might both press "force save", causing another conflict, then perhaps make the "forced save" option available to only those who have gone through at least three edit conflicts. I have a response there, which may be of help to you:
- I created some "In Use" templates more than two years ago — November of 2003 — to take care of just this issue, so that you could save a page with a flag to ask people to give you a short period of time - say 5 minutes to 1/2 an hour - to make a change and not cause a conflict. Some people have even improved on them to make the message work better. There are two forms, {{Inuse|5 minutes}} or {{Inuse|5 minutes}} or {{Inuse||for=|until 3:20 PM EDT 6/26}} in which case you get either of the following:
- 5 Minutes: {{inuse|5 Minutes}}
- Until 3:20: {{inuse|until 3:20 PM EDT 6/26}}
Save the page first with this message, then re-edit. Make the changes, and, of course, remove this template reference when you re-save. Paul Robinson (Rfc1394) 19:03, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi George,
- (happy now?)
Thanks for supplying some documentation for the above. I've been experiementing with it here, but it doesn't seem straightforward from the examples I've tried. Is something less convoluted possible, say without the I=, am=, an= and short= parameters (e.g. either use default message or write your own) and perhaps conflating image= and noimage= ...? - Maybe we should just TfD the other ones now. Or we can integrate a {{#switch in the main one so we can have all of them in one template. GeorgeMoney (talk) 23:35, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- I've just converted {{Long wikibreak}}, {{Attempting wikibreak}} and {{Exams}} into calls to {{Wikibreak}}, but #switch may be better; I'm not knowledgeable about ParserFunctions. I guess these templates could be TfDed if/when their use is replaced by calls to {{wikibreak}}, perhaps something a bot could fulfil...? Hopefully no-one currently using them would be offended...
- Regards, David 11:51, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and made the changes...
- Also, see my proposal at Wikipedia_talk:Wikiholiday#Merge GeorgeMoney (talk) 23:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Seems fine to me. So long as the unified template remains simple to use for those folk not interested in tweaking it but carries the functionality for those who are, I'd say it's an improvement. How best to handle the legacy of those folk currently using the old template or its variants is something I feel others more experienced than I should handle; as before, commandeering a bot to update these instances would seem the norm. Thanks for your work! David 14:56, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you stated on User talk:Master of Puppets#Image:Sango1234.jpg_listed_for_deletion that "Commons doesn't have to be the least bit encyclopedic", but this is not exactly true. [edit] Modification of another editor's posting on the talk page
I have a question. Is it considered acceptable to modify or highlight the postings made by another editor on the talk page of an article ? NATTO 08:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Admin
The article edit goal is good, especially writing from scratch a few good new ones, and doing some major improvements to others, you want to point to solid contributions to the encyclopedia. Active vandal fighting with all the appropriate warnings and WP:AIV notifications will get you noticed too. You already have contributed to Wikipedia space discussions, keep adding to your expertise by participating in more and different policy areas than you have so far. It may not be a good idea to force yourself to wait so long to do an RfA, candidates with 10,000+ edits (with some discount for the mass edits - such as your new user welcomings) raise eyebrows too for why they waited so long. Pick a date that will fall after one month of solid activity, and focus that month on doing tasks that could be done easier as an admin, giving us a reason to promote you. Your history is already in the past, waiting a year will not gain you any more than just waiting another 3 months or so. Also, seek out to be helpful to all those regular RfA voters, with your tech abilities that should be easy enough to do (just don't forget to help me ;). I have always navigated my way into new and interesting areas of Wikipedia by selected a few good users and following them around, looking at their contributions list. You are doing fine, just build some good articles and jump into the hot discussions (AfD and ANI etc.) always as the voice of reason of course. NoSeptember 22:49, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- You only look desperate if you apply too early or too often, you are not in that situation. Just wait for a well respected editor to nominate you and no one will see that as desperate (of course you can arrange a nomination ahead of time). I knew my nomination was coming ahead of time and I changed my editing pattern to facilitate positive voting, although I probably didn't need to. If you don't like vandal fighting, don't do it, except for that few weeks right before your RfA (gaming the system a little bit doesn't hurt). Just show us that we need to give you tools so you can help us in some way. I don't use my admin tools as much as many do, but when I stumble onto something, they are useful to have (people requesting autoblocks lifted or pages deleted, etc.). My philosophy is to accept the tools when you think the community is ready to give them to you, even if you aren't planning to use them heavily to start with. Many big time editors go along fine until one day they get into a big fight or pick up a trollish enemy. If this happens to you, wouldn't it be better if it happened after you became an admin? If it comes before, your enemy will make it a big issue on your RfA. On one of his subpages, Durin has done some calculations that show that after a certain point, those who wait to become admins actually have a lower success rate. Oh, and no complaints about the welcomings - that's a good thing. I was just saying that if someone questions why you waited until you had 20,000 edits you could explain that X,000 were welcomes using AWB or whatever. Having 20,000 manual edits looks suspicious. These are just my views, I am sure others see things differently. Have a Happy Birthday :-). NoSeptember 09:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:MFD - (User talk:USAID-Africa)
Hi George,
Welcoming the user sounded like a good idea, so I've done that.
It seems unlikely the user will respond, though, and it looks like the page may be used to host original research of some sort which may later be added to an article.
The user's name seems to be an attempt to create an article in the user's name space, but I agree that good faith should be assumed (the page was nominated as such).
My main problem with the page was it wouldn't be easy to notify the user of concerns about their editing or for the user to spot them: maybe a move might be more appropriate if this is the case.

[edit] Re: Wherebot
Sorry for the delayed response. I'm worried that constantly subst'ing a template would increase server load, when I don't see much of a need for people to change the format. It also could look ugly if the format is changed, as then several different formats would be used on Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations. What are your thoughts on the matter? -- Where 16:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I would be open to suggestions if you want to change the format (although for the previously mentioned reasons, I'm not sure if it wsould be a good idea to make it use a template). Regarding edit summaries, it is a good idea, but I sadly do not have time to fix that at the moment. Thanks very much! -- Where 22:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cross-space redirects
Can I convince you to put {{db|Created by mistake}} on the wiki-voter shortcut? If I nominate this on RfD it will explode. A cross-namespace redirect to something in userspace is madness. - brenneman {L} 00:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I just copied a the vandalproof thing like WP:VPRF, so that has to be deleted too if WP:WKV is. I think WP: namespace can be redirected anywhere, because you could just redirect it to Wikipedia:Wikivoter and redirect that to userspace which would cause double redirects just for the purpose of not redirecting WP: to userspace. GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:28, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, first let us disabuse ourselves of the notion that "since Foo exists we canot delete bar." That's simply not true. Secondly, the idea that a double redirect would somehow make it "ok" appears to misunderstand both the problems with double redirects and cross namespace redirects. I take this to mean that you're not going to ask for it to be deleted, then? - brenneman {L} 00:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- And it's a bit disingenuous to say that you "just copied" the other shortcut when you made that one as well. - brenneman {L} 00:33, 22 August 2006
- Well, I might have created WP:VPRF but I copied WP:VandalProof. I Really don't think it should be deleted so if you really wanted it deleted you could take it to rfd and see what many people think. GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:37, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ook. Sorry to have sunk the boot in there, than, my mistake about the creation. I may have taken double my dosage of cranky this morning by accident, and there was no reason to give you a serve over this. I have nominated all three for deletion, though, and if I'm nasty again just give me a slap. - brenneman {L} 00:53, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

- Hi again.
- Yes, that worked, and, is it also possible to make them all lign up. On my redesign (attempt) there are big :blank spaces to the left and right of the table you made. Or, should I use something like Nvu and make 3 tables and just type all the :{{subst: userboxname}} into the tables as text, then make that my page on wikipedia? I think that might be easier...

[edit] Greetings
Hi there.I don't really know what to say. It's hard for me and I assume it must be complicated for all the people in my situation to try a new language out. You see, I've been studying English language since 1995 but, for some reason, I still keep my doubts on the subject. I joined Wikipedia on July 26, 2006 —the Spanish version — and as for a sudden I became deeply acquainted with the English one. I cannot trust myself to do it better, but I would like to; believe me when I say that is my priority. Up to now I've written an average of 30 articles in the Spanish Wikipedia, most of which are based on English and American literature authors and movements. My best ones for so far are es:Frederick Douglass and es:William Shakespeare. On the same way I wrote one article for this wikipedia, originally a translation from Spanish into English. I also added further information to a geography stub. My intention is to help and take part of this wonderful experience, but to do that I may need a hand. Can we work together? Do you want to keep in touch with me? I'm on the web almost all the time. If I'm not here I'm there, always fooling around. Thanks for reading my terrible message. [edit] Infobox Template
I'm having troubles with this Template:Infobox DCAU character I created. It's creating about 4 blank spaces between the section header and the text and the infobox. Example: Black Manta#Other media#Justice League--The Judge 22:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Wow, thanks!! you're the man! hahahah. I worked with that for about 10 hours, I could totally use a break. The hystory section might help you, the infobox started doing that at some point when I was editing it. I created it using the Character template, ading some elements of the superherobox.--The Judge 01:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
The Template page looks great. It's nice to see it so neat now! It still works a little weird on the articles featuring it (almost at the bottom of the Green Arrow, Supergirl, Black Manta and Joker articles, for example), making space between the section header and the first paragraph and it. But it's not so bad now. How did you fixed it, anyways?--The Judge 01:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Annoying guy
I've got this annoying guy that is edit warring on me without further explanations than one small comment in the edit summary that doesn't quote any wikipedia guideline (actually I made the changes to fit the guidelines). He says there can't be 2 infoboxes in an article, but the info in it is 100% different and doesn't actualli repeat anything.
He already broke the 3RR, and not wishing to risk being blocked too, I won't rv him a third time.
The name of the guy is CovenantD and he is really annoying the capital H out of me, by making the article less informative, specally since my the nature of his edits are totally irespectful and easy to do, while I had to do a lot of researching and sourcing.
This is the confict, and the article in question is Clock King.
Thanks for your time, I hate to bother you like that.--The Judge 04:59, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
He rv your edit :S, but don't worry fortunatelly/unfortunatelly that qualigies that user to a report on the Admins notice board. The fact that there could be people like that really puts me down. Like, what are his motifs? I noticed he seems to be interested in comics, but he seems to be making sure those articles are as less informative ans surced as posible... Why is he bothering, why does he take the time? I mean, I'm sure he can reseach and add facts to an article he likes better instead of choping off the ones he doesn't like. To me it's really hard to understand how such mentality exists.--The Judge 01:30, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Did you want the blue links deleted George? Glen 11:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sweet, you may wanna change the request on that page then. And hey I just wanna a) congratulate you and b) thank you for your .js and .css pages, a couple weeks ago I knew fricken Zero about scripts, and thanks to you and Voice of All (tho neither of you know this) I gave myself a crash course... and now I am really proud of how my interface looks - hit preview here and take a look at the css for example... and my blocking and warning scripts are all automated now. Outstanding. I'm just tryinbg to learn how to save my monobook locally now like yourself, and unfortunatley there's no guides for that! - Hmm, let me see if I have this straight. Let's say, right now my monobook links to the script at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Glen_S/Addtabs.js (for example), I just change the link to read chrome://wikipedia/content/Addtabs.js then place Addtabs.js in the same folder as the monobook? [edit] Why doesn't auto archive work?
Could you explain why User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/archive is causing me problems? I installed it at User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js, but that disabled WP:POPUPS and wikEd. So I commented it out. I found the instructions a little confusing as I didn't understand what changes to make. It looked like I needed to replace your user name with mine. But I could be wrong. -Will Pittenger 04:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, that did not help. Must be something else. Are you using the same other scripts I have installed? Did I install your code correctly? -Will Pittenger 07:09, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Which scripts should be redone? Also, you are no longer disabling other scripts. -Will Pittenger 02:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have succesfully archived my talk page. However, please examine this history link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Will_Pittenger/Archive_Indexer&oldid=88584655. It seems that my talk indexer was included into the archive page twice. Only once is needed. Could that be simply that the page already existed? -Will Pittenger 03:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can you help at another Wiki with CSS?
Can you help at Wikia:ChristianMusic? I have a user there who will need some CSS help in order to complete a task I assigned him. I can edit the file, but I would not know what to put in there. For more information, read Wikia:ChristianMusic:User talk:Jesussaves#Credits formatting system needed and Wikia:ChristianMusic:Talk:Sandbox/Credits/.
I have no idea when he will need help. At this point, I think he is sitting back and scratching his head on the problem. I have repeatedly told him to to rush it. Rather, I need the whole thing thought through. -Will Pittenger 03:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- The CSS problem has nothing to do with infoboxes. We specifically don't want infoboxes for this role because of the amount of stuff that would be in the infoboxes compared to the amount outside the infobox. An article with only infoboxes would have many problems. Yet that is all we would be left with. -Will Pittenger 08:16, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How to look up the current user?
Would you happen to know if there is a template or magic word that evalutates to the name of the current or not? If I am the current user, I would like my archive indexer to recognize that and add a link to the archive manager. -Will Pittenger 03:59, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most unfortunate. Having some sort of link would be handy. How about a tab on the talk page or a toolbox item? -Will Pittenger 08:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
wgUserName isn't much help as I have no JS experience. The closest I can come is a little non-professional C#.NET experience. Actually, I think you should add the archive option to User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/archive -Will Pittenger 03:22, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wishlist for Archiving
In addition to what I mentioned above (an Archive link in the toolbox), I would like to see your archive system get more intelligent. User:Werdnabot seems to do a good job. Perhaps, you could borrow some code or logic.
- Limit archived conversations to only those that have not been updated in a length of time that would be an option. In addition to the bot I mentioned above, there is a script that localizes times in signatures. Clearly they have a way to see sigs and the dates within. Perhaps you could borrow that code too.
- Put an option in the code to delete unsigned posts. I say that as some users say they don't archive them.
- Add option to auto-archive on logout. Might require an additional module.
-Will Pittenger 05:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- BTW: Unless you can archive only older conversations, please don't auto-archive without asking the user for permission. I would be pretrefied to allow automatic archiving if it always archived everything.
- Also, are you able to detect users logging out when they simply close the browser tab or window and allow their cookies to expire. Even with the window open the cookies expire in something like one hour. -Will Pittenger 20:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
So what happens when a cookie simply expires with at least one Wikipedia window/tab still open? -Will Pittenger 22:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- You appear to have mixed up the conversations. Above, I was talking about WP cookies, not yours. -Will Pittenger 22:22, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
In my experience, they expire in one hour if not refreshed by loading a new page. I use a shared computer and don't use remember me. Will (Talk - contribs) 22:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Does your code add the Warn links to the toolbox? I was upset they only change the subject/headline box. The user tabs script does everything, but I can't tell which template some of the tabs add. [edit] Clerk for Requests for Checkuser
Hey GeorgeMoney,
I am messaging you to ask whether you would be interested in reassuming your role as a Request for Checkuser clerk. Currently, the clerk duties are being shared among three experienced clerks, and we have added two new clerks, who are currently in the learning stage. We are currently experiencing backlogs and long waiting times for some actions to occur.
As you are currently listed under "inactive" on our clerk roster, we're asking that if you are willing to resume these clerk activities, please leave a message on my user talk page (quick link). A number of things have changed, so we reccommend re-reading Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Guide. The guide is currently being rewritten, but the new and updated version should be available by 00:00 December 12, 2006 (UTC) at the latest.
If you aren't interested in being a checkuser clerk any longer, we accept your decision and thank you for your service; it would be greatly appreciated if you'd leave me a note that you're no longer interested. If you would like to resume your role in the future, but can't do so now, please mention so on my talk page, and I'll note this on our clerk register.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Daniel.Bryant [ T · C ], Head Clerk, for Essjay (talk), 05:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Auto Welcome script
I just noticed and installed your Auto Welcome script. (See User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js#User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/autowelcome. You might have to manually purge the page to get the section link to work.)
Unfortunately, it activated any time I edited any page. Even when I attempted to disable the script, it ran. So I ended up with "Welcome" in my JS page. It was completely willing to replace whatever was on that page with Welcome.
Also, is it smart enough to switch between {{welcome}} and {{welcomeip}}? Will (Talk - contribs) 04:27, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding the new version you just mentioned, I might be interested. However, I was content with the auto welcome as it was -- provided it only activated for empty User Talk links. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:22, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
No. While I did describe that in the main scripts page, what I described as happening when I tested your existing AutoWelcome script works -- provided it only activated for empty User Talk links. Supposedly that script doesn't activate until a tab is clicked. However, what I saw today was the script was always adding {{welcome}} to every page you edit. No tab required. Restrict that to empty User Talk pages, and you might get it to work. As such, you would save room in the watchlist and have it work when I link to something like User Talk:No User Here. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:30, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see that as a concern. However, what you described is better than nothing and better than the bug I encountered. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:42, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
I almost forgot: The script wasn't signing its posts. ~~~~ will do the job. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:31, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I can confirm the tab shows up, but I have yet to test it. Also the flashing [welcome] appears on this page in the post I have above. However, it was omitted from My Watchlist and Recent Changes. I can confirm that editing a page no longer causes the script to activate without permission. I plan to eat dinner and then test some more.
- Also, how smart is it? Will it choose correctly between {{welcome}} and {{welcomeip}}? Will (Talk - contribs) 01:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Requiring users to copy the code is bad as it prevents easy upgrades. I think you should find a way switch to include_module. I thought I could overwrite the options you set with my own code after the module inclusion like I did with Popups and wikEd. But it had no effect.
I do think that Special: should be included. However, if you are unsure, make all namespaces options that can be turned on or off individually. Can you detect which namespaces are out there at runtime? For instance, in the Christian Music wiki at Wikia.com, I was looking at adding special namespaces for specialized functions. The talk pages there would have signatures. Some of those would have redlinked talk links.
Also, what about users that have empty talk pages, but omit the talk page from their sig? That is how MediaWiki configures all signatures by default. (You have to turn Raw Signatures on to get what I use.) So if the sig is simply "User:No User Here", I should get a [welcome] by it. Please note, that the user in question might have a user page. That is irelevant. We are only checking if they have a user talk page, even if that link is missing. One cleavet: Suppose both User Page and User Talk Page links are provided for the same user. I would suggest having "[welcome]" in only location per user per page. In the other locations where links to that user's user page and/or user talk page occur, put a small icon there. That icon might be a stylized W (for welcome).
Also, [welcome] was omited from the preview screen. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll upgrade shortly.
-
- It now also adds the link to red link userpages. I guess to see if the talk page already exists you could hover over the link with popups which seems to work for me.
- I should note that could only cause more confusion. I think if you are going to include such a feature, you should include the test for the user talk page in the code. Too many users will have one page and not the other. I have seen very few users (out of the total number out there) will have neither.
-
- if it detects the same talk link as a previous user page link, there is no (easy) way to just turn it into a "[w]" or something link.
- Actually, what I thought you would implement was a list of user names that you added full welcome links to. If you make that list a hash table (or whatever JS calls hash tables, C++/MFC calls them "maps"), you should get decent performance out of that code.
- On a new note, what happens when a user was already welcomed? A few minutes ago, I clicked on a red talk link and proceded to use the new Welcome tab to welcome the user. However, by the time the edit page that activates the welcome script came up, the page was no longer empty. In that short amount of time that it took me to click the tab and for the new page to load, someone had already entered a template that added a section.
- In this case, the welcome template could have gone above the older template. However, I think your script, if it can, should check for the word "Welcome" as the first non-whitespace in the existing page. If it finds it, it tells the user that the account in question already has a welcome present. If it finds no welcome on a non-blank page, it asks the user if welcome should be added to the page anyway. If the user says Yes, put the welcome template up top, but don't autosave. That lets the user manually create a section header for the existing code if required.
Sounds like that list part might be the only one you can do. Still, I think you will find many users confused by the other two. You might want a FAQ section on AutoWelcome to help deal with that. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I just tested the new [welcome] link from my watchlist. The script both passed and failed. It did well until it ask if I wanted to add my welcome to a non-blank page. I pressed Cancel -- and it ALWAYS added the template name.
- Before that test, I welcomed something like 30-40 users with the welcome tab. That was proving to be very reliable.
[edit] Speedy Deletion provides nothing unique
I decided not to use your Speedy Deletion script until it can list with a combobox common templates. Select other, and a box appears that would be comparable to Easy Db's DB (CSD) tab. Select Reason and it would ask for a text reason (for use with {{db}}).
BTW: It might make sense to have the script confirm that the user hit Cancel when you are debugging the script, but normal users will hate it.

[edit] Popup conflict
I found a conflict with popups. From my watchlist, if I click a [welcome] link, I commonly get a popup that won't go away unless I refresh the watchlist page. I don't know if it should be considered your bug or Lupin's. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:50, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I will list it there. I do middle click the [welcome] link. That causes Firefox (1.5.0.8) to open the link in a new background tab. Could that be relevant? Will (Talk - contribs) 03:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
What did you end up concluding about OnMouseUp? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:50, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't follow you. I don't understand the terminology. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:57, 26 December 2006 (UTC)i would go for that reason instead of "because they were added by the script instead of being in the html"
We should have thought of this when I first brought this problem up. Suppose Lupin modifies the Popup code to ignore [welcome] links. They have a unique URL. Will (Talk - contribs) 20:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- So can that change be made? The only drawback that I have thought of is that when the talk link isn't shown and [welcome] was added to the user page link, I sometimes use the [welcome] link with popups to detect that the page isn't blank. Gain one, lose one. Will (Talk - contribs) 21:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Lupin has provided a work around that lets you hide the popups with a key press. I need three modifiers with the code he provided. But other than that, it works. I suggest adding it to both your Auto-Welcome instructions and Lupin's WP:POPUP. The code is at User talk:Lupin#Popups that won't go away. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Forget the work around. Some has added a real fix. Now when I middle-click a [welcome] link, the popup immediately vanishes. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:10, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article Copyright
Hi,
I was trying to post an article on Wikipedia, but it was deleted for copyright reasons after it was detected on a differetnt website. However, I hold the copyright on the text and the images. Can you please let me know how can I use the text and an image that are also available on that webiste? The site is [9], I want to post the article about the artist Dessy Dobreava on Wikipedia.org. Lieke I said I have posted the article Dessy Dobreva, but it was deleted, so I am not sure what I did wrong and what I need to do to prevent that happening again. Thank you.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I irrevocably release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, for use on Wikipedia and elsewhere."

- If you own the copyright, and you want to put that article on Wikipedia, all you need to do is change its license to GFDL or Public Domain.
- Then you can copy it to wikipedia (if you made it GFDL you need to credit your site somehow, possibly in the "external links" section) and if someone deletes it you can show them that it was under a free license and they should un-delete it.
- I hope this answers your questions. If not please just ask what you don't know, i'm always here to help!

[edit] New AutoWelcome Bug: 500 links
AutoWelcome has developed a new bug. Everytime it loads a page, it complains that it has over 500 links. This is true even if I am editing a blank page. It is also true if I clicked a [Welcome] link to open the page that triggered the warning. It doesn't happen if I use the Welcome tab.
Furthermore, I was accidently closing my watchlist tab with AutoWelcome. I had used [Welcome] to welcome an user. When the edit page came up, it warned me that I had over 500 links. I pressed OK. I think that is when the tab with My Watchlist vanished. The My Watchlist tab was the only tab with more than a handful of links.
Wishlist item: Please make the warning that is causing this problem customizable. I think 500 links is way too low. I am seeing way too many pages that would trigger this warning -- even it were working correctly. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:00, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Then I have to report a new bug that I had thought was related to the problem above. The [welcome] links are missing and won't come back. It is as though I said to cancel scanning the links in the new box.
BTW: I suggest changing the buttons in that new warning dialog to Yes and No. Then change the question to match. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Will Pittenger (talk • contribs).
No it wasn't. The [welcome] links are NEVER showing up on the My Watchlist page. Could something be corrupting your internal flag? (Namely the new flag you added for when the user hits cancel after being warned about the number of links.) Will (Talk - contribs) 05:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't add the second option because I thought you defaulted it to true for reverse compatibility reasons. Could you have failed to default it? (Beginners' error, I know. But we all make that mistake.) I don't know how JS handles uninitialized variables. C assumes you know what you are doing. Most other languages either complain or implicitly initialize them.
- I bring the uninitialized part up because only the My Watchlist page doesn't have [welcome] links. All other pages get them. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I'll add it. Let you know shortly if it fixes the problem. I thought you could init the variable when you declared it. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- This appears to be fixed.
[edit] Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the info for the anchor parsing. I found {{anchorencode:foobar}} which does everything accept removing wikicode. Even with that a little pre a post processing of the string is needed, but is far easier(especially when strange characters are involved). I should be done in a little while, just finishing up the caching system. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:17, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] rpotd 12/29/06
I tried to add a picture for 12/29/06 using the template and it didn't seem to take. The image is from Commons is that a problem? I think it's just user error (me) sorry for any inconvenience.--Alex LaPointetalk 05:36, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] No welcome links for history
There are no [welcome] links in page histories. Any reason why? Will (Talk - contribs) 22:04, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for reverting the damage to my page.
Any reason you didn't warn the user? I know that some users don't believe in warnings. I found general apathy at the central Wikia wiki. Unfortunately, normal users can't block a vandal without admin help. Even so, most admins won't block someone without paper trail of warnings. Will (Talk - contribs) 00:22, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hi, George...
I was accidentally automatically logged in and noticed the new messages.
My reason for leaving is simply that I don't like where Wikipedia is going. Whereas it used to intrigue me, now I find myself disappointed at everyday activities here. It's depressing. Bickering over the smallest details, taking weeks just to have any action taken with trolls...
Not that I'm saying you should leave.
I'm young, George, perhaps too young for this. Younger than ninety nine percent of other Wikipedians, even. I'm easily hurt by people and simple words and phrases. And I've been hurt here far too many times lately to be able to call it me home...
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for everything. You helped me so much with everything. Good luck. --Light of Shadow 01:13, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright problrem again
Hello, I am sorry to bother you again for that but I did what you have suggested me about the article (Dessy Dobreva) and it was deleted for 3rd time. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I even noted at the end of the article that its context is borrowed from a different website and that I have the rights to that text. Do you have any suggesttions? Thank you! Best
RE: article copyrights If you own the copyright, and you want to put that article on Wikipedia, all you need to do is change its license to GFDL or Public Domain.
Then you can copy it to wikipedia (if you made it GFDL you need to credit your site somehow, possibly in the "external links" section) and if someone deletes it you can show them that it was under a free license and they should un-delete it.
I hope this answers your questions. If not please just ask what you don't know, i'm always here to help!

[edit] Toolbox links
Any chance of getting a toolbox link to archive the talk page? It would help a lot. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand the context of the code you sent. Do you have the right toolbox? Your code uses images. The toolbox on every sidebar is text links only. I think you are coding for the JS toolbar on edit pages. I don't use that as I have User:Cacycle's wikEd. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Do you have any user boxes for your scripts?
Providing them might help you get more users to use them. Will (Talk - contribs) 21:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sidebar as a menu bar with drop menus
Please look at Wikia:Starwars:User:Sikon. See what happens to the sidebar? I would like to see the same thing for Wikipedia. I would make only two changes (other than the lack of ads). First,I would keep the Account links (what Sikon puts into the User menu) where they would normally appear on the right end of the top line. Second, I think the menu bar needs to be fixed (like it was a seperate frame.
Any ideas? Will (Talk - contribs) 04:28, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. Let me know what you come up with. I may be able to help test it. :) Will (Talk - contribs) 07:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- If it is easier, could the sidebar disappear to the left? Then it could move back if you hover over the border. The only conflicts would be auto-hide toolbars (like the Windows taskbar) and a Firefox tool that auto-hides the Firefox sidebar. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:42, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] No bottom tabs on my talk page
Since I installed some of your CSS stuff to hide the copyright and footer at the bottom of the page, my talk page has been missing the bottom tabs that I have installed. All other pages have those bottom tabs. Do you know how the bottom tab stuff could be overridden? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:05, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I was just reading your post when I noticed the tabs were back. Really strange. Let's not fix what's not broken. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Admin CSS List doesn't work for me
I am having problems getting your Admin CSS List script to work. Do you have screen shots of what should be different? I see no changes. I have it installed at User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js#User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/adminlistcss. Remember to manually purge the page if needed to get the section link working. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you get a moment, you might check my JS page for conflicts. Your script is so simple, I don't know how it could malfunction. Will (Talk - contribs) 03:19, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Enhanced Recent Changes and Enhanced Watchlist. Do you think those could be the problem? Will (Talk - contribs) 03:27, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MediaWiki:Cascadeprotected
I see you've been experimenting with the above mentioned page (yes, I do watch the entire MediaWiki: namespace so i know of interface changes more quickly).
If I may make one suggestion: instead of using {{#ifexist:{{PAGENAME}}, why not {{#ifexist:{{FULLPAGENAME}} as that would cause less bugs.
Thanks, GeorgeMoney (talk) 07:12, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Good catch! Thank you!
- Perhaps you'd care to comment on the proposal for which I tweaked this code. —David Levy 07:17, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Archive system shouldn't archive header
I have noticed that the archive tool is archiving my talk page header with the conversations. Can this be fixed? See this edit where I corrected the problem. Do I have it configured wrong? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- I just archived again. This time, the archive tool did not copy the talk page header. But before you rejoice, the archive page was new. When the tool was done, no header was present. I had to add that myself. Do I need a settings change? Will (Talk - contribs) 07:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I have the settings shown below.
//The header to put on top of all archives (if the archive is in 'w' mode (modes explained below)) var archiveheader = '{{User:Will Pittenger/Archive Indexer}}'; //Your talk page header for to use when archiving. Remember to keep the '; //Your talk page archive page. Insert "NUMBER" where the number of archive you are on goes var archiveurl = "User_talk:Will Pittenger/Archive NUMBER"; //The mode to archive your talk page. Making this value 'a' will make the script add your archive to the bottom of the current archive. Making it 'w' will totally erase the contents of the current archive (usually you should set the current archive value to a new archive to avoid erasing old archives, where as in append mode (a), you should set it to your current archive to append the contents) var archivemode = 'a';
Will (Talk - contribs) 02:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I added the noinclude as suggested. However, I did not understand which questions you were answering as mine weren't numbered. Also, I used 'a' because I didn't want the archive page erased. That helps minimize how often I need to update my archive template. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:43, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- I archived again. This time it archived the header -- after stripping off the <noinclude>. Will (Talk - contribs) 22:35, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] How do you create collapsible sections?
Is it simple to do collapsible sections like you have in your user page? If so, I was thinking about putting whats needed into a template that I would host via my collection at User:Will Pittenger/templates.
BTW: My new navigation bar at the top of my page needs an icon for the template collection. I have been looking at some tools. However, since the word tools implies more than just templates, I would prefer something broader. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- I stumbled on the class earlier this afternoon. Until then, I could not figure out what was going on. I was expecting to find some JS somewhere. The source I found lists several existing templates. They listed below. Could you tell me what you think of them? Should they be substed? How well are they documented?
- {{hidden}}
- {{hidden begin}}
- {{hidden end}}
- {{afd}} (This "afd" doesn't stand for "Articles for Deletion"?)
- {{afdx}}
- {{Dynamic navigation box}}
- {{Dynamic navigation box with image}}
Will (Talk - contribs) 05:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- I just tried the code you sent (rather than the templates). Some problems as listed below.
- First, the your code does not respect the user box column. How do I tell it to not use that space?
- Second, the section is collapsed by default, but the show/hide link starts out at "Hide". I have to click it twice to show it.
- Third, the section links don't work when the section is collapsed. Is there a way to expand the section when a section link is used?
- Fourth, can I use an icon for the Show/Hide link?
- Fifth, your comment says to leave the "display:none" in. However, it works better without it. The default state is expanded, but at least the Show/Hide link now reflects the correct state. (I did want some sections to default to expanded anyway.)
- My test is at User:Will Pittenger:Map of My User Space Will (Talk - contribs) 09:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
At this point, I see no reason to continue with the class=navframe system. If you know of another way to get the same type of look, please let me know. As is, it's not worth it. I might use it to collapse my user box groups, but that's it. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- And presumably you can't write your own version. Are you able to fix the JS bugs in what we have now? Will (Talk - contribs) 02:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
BTW: The reason I was confused as to what you were answering was that I had the wrong topic. You had been talking about Archiving elsewhere in that post. When your subject is simply "RE:", please don't be surprised if I (and probably others) get confused. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:16, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I hoped you would at least be able to tell the people that could fix it what the problem was. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:18, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RfA nomination
This message was sent by Wikipedian, — Meteoroid ← 18:48, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you Meteoroid for the nom, but I feel I must decline. The thing is, I have not been very active recently, so therefore I have not gotten a chance to show the community how I would do in a dispute other than the way I used to deal with disputes when I was new. Also, I have not participated in XfD's recently, due to my inactivity, and have not shown the community how I deal in XfD's. I do plan on becoming more active in the near future and then I might try again at RfA, but now is not the time. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Overriding the welcome message with popups
Is there a way for popups to display extra items with the Auto Welcome script is installed and the popup is for a [WELCOME] link?
I was thinking a Welcome This User submenu of the Action menu in a popup could have a variety of items that would change the welcome message to something like {{welcomespam}}. That might save me from entering two messages. Your settings would have two entries for each custom item. (IP and non-IP.) If the IP entry is omitted, the template provided should be assumed as capable of differentiating between the two types of accounts on its own. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have asked that Lupin provide his comments. So we all can see this conversation in one place, I ask that everyone reply here. I will attempt to check back fairly often. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:01, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I've just remembered that, a few weeks ago, I was made aware of something you supposedly said about me near the end of January. If possible (to keep this off-wiki), can you email me? Thanks, Will (Speak to Me/Breathe)(Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash) 20:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
