This is the place to request sockpuppet checks or other investigations requiring CheckUser privilege. Checkuser is a last resort for difficult cases. Use other methods first.

Code Situation Solution
Obvious, disruptive sock puppet Block. No checkuser is necessary.
Disruptive "throwaway" account used only for a few edits Block. No checkuser is necessary.
Checkuser on yourself to "prove your innocence" Such requests are not accepted. Please do not ask.
Question about a possible sock puppet related to an open arbitration case Request checkuser on the arbitration case pages.

Open proxy where you already know the IP address List on Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies
You want access to the checkuser tool yourself You may contact the Arbitration Committee, but be advised that such access is rarely granted
G Request doesn't fit any of the criteria but you believe a check is warranted anyway List here with a brief summary of the situation and links to further discussion

Procedure

  • List your request using the Input box below. Choose one code letter that most closely applies to your request. No code letter, no check.
  • Wikimedia:Privacy policy does not allow us to make a check that has the effect of revealing IP addresses.
  • Indicate the usernames you suspect, using {{checkuser}}. Please do not use this template in the section header, as that makes it difficult to read the account names.
  • Include the diffs or links required for the code letter you have chosen.
  • Sign your request.
  • There are clerks to assist you and help with maintenance of the page.

Outcome

  • Responses will be brief in order to comply with Wikipedia privacy policy.
  • Due to technical factors, results are not always clear.
  • Check back regularly to see the outcome of your request. In most cases, any block or other action based on the outcome will not be taken by the checkuser-people or the clerks. Instead, you will have to do this yourself.
  • Closed requests are archived after several days.

To request a check:

Cases are created on subpages of Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case.

To do so, insert the name of the sockpuppeteer (the main account or puppetmaster, not the sockpuppet!) in the box below. Leave out the "User:" prefix. Do not remove the text in the box, add to the end only.

Example: if you want to request a checkuser on User:John Doe, enter the text:
Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/John Doe

Then click "Request a checkuser." You will be taken to a page where you can fill out the request. Please make your request there brief and concise.

[edit] Outstanding requests

[edit] Buffadren

  • Code letter: A, E

Kertu3 has only 6 contributions in Wikipedia - 2 of them in 18 February, when he started his wikilife accusing others of sockpuppetry (strange for a newbie!, it seems he knows a lot about editing problems in Wikipedia!) and other 4 today when he vandalized Transnistria article. While my main suspicion is that Kertu3 is a sockpuppet of User:Pernambuco (I made a separate report), I also suspect Buffadren to use this sock in order to breach 3RR, as the edits are similar and Buffadren had already 3 reverts when Kertu3 appeared. Evidence of vandalism and breaching 3RR: 29 March 08:52, 29 March 13:41, 29 March 13:58, 30 March 00:24, 30 March 00:28, 30 March 00:50.

One of my old suspicion is that Buffadren is a sock of old sockpuppeteer User:Mark us street which I discovered in December 2006 [1], his IP was blocked for a month and after that Mark us street claimed he retired from Wikipedia and Buffadren appeared imediately after the one-month block of Mark us street was over, with similar behaviour as Mark us street. [edit] Pernambuco

  • Code letter: A, E

Kertu3 has only 4 contributions in Wikipedia - 2 of them in 18 February, when he started his wikilife accusing others of sockpuppetry (strange for a newbie!, it seems he knows a lot about editing problems in Wikipedia!) and other 2 today when he vandalized Transnistria article [2], [3]. As today he appeared 2 minutes after Pernambuco did a similar edit I suspect Kertu3 is a sockpuppet of Pernambuco. In 18 February he also took Pernambuco's side in debates about Transnistria article.

Adition: He also used this sock to violate 3RR: 30 March 00:22, 30 March 00:24, 30 March 00:28, 30 March 00:50--MariusM 01:07, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dr Lisboa

  • Code letter: E

There is a content dispute regarding adding a new section to Jesus. Dr Lisboa came close to violating 3RR two days in a row, and then all of a sudden, redlinked editors started making the exact same edits. Here are the diffs for Dr Lisboa:

Here is the diff for Triffid3:

Here are the diffs for Stalvione:

Clerk note: : Since you provided diffs for similar edits, here are edits that are exact reversions (and are enough for a 3RR violation):

[edit] Ikedanobuo

  • Code letter: G

This spins out of tag removals and WP:POINT violations on Asahi Shimbun relating to the comfort women article. DDRG is trying to call the paper unreliable (which simply isn't possible) in the scope of its coverage in 1991 regarding comfort women (so it can't be used in the article), and he vaguely cites some things that can't be found in order to shore up his case. User:DDRG references two people Seiji Yoshida and Ikuhiko Hata who have recent WP articles created by User:Amazonjoke (those being thew only things this user did), and apparently all of this spins out of something on User:Ikedanobuo's off-wiki blog, though the wiki user may not be the Wiki user, of course. [edit] Shuppiluliuma

  • Code letter: F (evasion of community ban)

Shuppiluliuma, known also as DragutBarbarossa and CalicoJackRackham (talk contribs), was indefbloced and community banned (here) for a number of incidents, involving edit-warring, personal attacks, block evasion, but above all the repeated uploading of a large number of unfree images. These come from a photo site, wowturkey.com, which he claims he manages, and the copyrights belong to the various photographers, who he claims are his friends. He claimed the photographers gave him permission to upload the images under free licenses, but could never present evidence of this. After one of his latest blocks and the deletion of a number of images, several apparent sock accounts appeared under the name of the photographers and re-uploaded the images as "self-made".

The identity of Shuppiluliuma with his main socks is not in doubt. This includes "7th Son of a 7th Son" and "Asım Kazancıgil", they are essentially self-declared ([11], [12]) and can be blocked on sight. What I would like clarified is the identity of the suspected impersonation accounts used to circumvent image policy: KeremTuncay, Faruk Koçak, and Hakan Noyan.

Fut.Perf. 05:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

P.S.: Please cancel this request, it's no longer needed. I now found the latest sock self-declared that the impersonation accounts are socks: [13] "Resimler için bundan böyle arkadaşlarımın adıyla birinci kişi yüklemelerinde bulunacağım ki bir daha silemesinler", translation: "As for the images, I'll be speaking in the first person under the names of my friends, so they won't be deleted again". That's as clear as it gets. Fut.Perf. 05:55, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 3GPP guru

  • Code letter: C.

Ongoing pattern of link spam vandalism. User continues to switch IP's after warnings have been issued, thus avoiding block. See [14], [15], and [16], for just one example. Contrib history of all four ID's accounts for 25+ vandal edits over past 2 weeks. Thank you, Satori Son 21:18, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] USMC Padre

  • Code letter: G

Tag-team editing on Gordon James Klingenschmitt. Accounts were opened near each other temporally, all echo each other in attacking the subject of the article, and have been involved in serious WP:BLP violations (see [17], [18], [19], [20], [21]). All appear to be single-purpose accounts used largely or exclusively on the Gordon James Klingenschmitt article. MastCell Talk 18:05, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Declined The Uninvited Co., Inc. 18:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I would strongly urge that a CheckUser be carried out seeing as we had to call in Oversight to redact edits revealing Mr. Klingenschmitt's credit card details at Gordon James Klingenschmitt which were made by:

--  Netsnipe  ►  19:54, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I would also urge reconsideration of this request. The Klingenschmitt article has been the subject of serious problems leading to a highly contentious and problematic BLP situation and deletion. See generally Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gordon James Klingenschmitt. The matter cannot be considered resolved as the article was deleted without prejudice to re-creation in a BLP-compliant version and what constitutes BLP compliance in this case is likely to be controversial. There have also been allegations (which I do not necessarily credit) concerning the role of Rev. Klingenschmitt himself in allegedly editing this article under multiple accounts. Rev. Klingenschmitt edits under his own name as Klingeng (talk contribs logs block user block log checkuser). Newyorkbrad 19:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] R9tgokunks

  • Code letter: C (serious pattern of sneaky vandalism by throwaway socks, while socketmaster maintains a facade of respectability)

There has been a series of throwaway accounts, clearly of the same user, whose contributions present a unique mixture of seemingly good-faith (though misguided/confused) edits, some edits apparently sneaky vandalism, some downright nonsensical, and some blatant attacks and other forms of disruption. Most of these accounts have been blocked and they are easy to spot. However, the suspected sockpuppeter, R9tgokunks (talk contribs), is a bit more difficult to link to this series of socks. He maintains a façade of respectability, for the most part making good-faith edits, though they are often aggressive, misguided and/or POV-pushing.

Nevertheless, I believe R9tgokunks can conclusively be linked to the sock series, by a couple of striking similarities in their editing profile. These are too special to be coincidental:

Common interests linking R9tgokunks with the sock army
sneaky vandalism by socks
other disruption, attacks, nonsense edits, etc.
Admissions of vandalism, intentional disruption

I already have additional evidence in the form of temporal editing patterns, which I believe is almost conclusive enough to warrant a block on the sockmaster, but since we might be dealing with the need for an indef ban here, I'd appreciate confirmation by checkuser before I take action. Fut.Perf. 19:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I have never seen someone lie as much as yourself! You don't have evidence, and it's impossible TO have any evidence such as that, because I have no sockpuppets, and never did have any, well, other than my default IP address. EDIT: Let me also add that I am currently being stalked by User:Future Perfect at Sunrise as of last week, and it's quite disturbing for me to notice that he obviously is going to articles that I edit and is reverting my edits.-- Hrödberäht (gespräch) 22:23, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
May someone please perform the checkuser now? I think the sooner that we can calm the ignorance, the better it will be. -- Hrödberäht (gespräch) 22:35, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Venki123

  • Code letter: C

Repeated vandalism of Mudaliar and Sengunthar articles over the past few months. I furnish some of the vandalised diffs beside the above ips/users. Venki123 (talk contribs) has been constantly deleting and trashing heavily referenced sections. I suggest a block on the ips and this user. Could you check and say if any of the users are socket puppets of Venki123 (talk contribs) or if any of the ips are related to Venki123 (talk contribs)? Thanks. Mudaliar 14:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Both share the same Tamil nationalist worldview.

A 3 month block was imposed on Indrancroos for vandalism at the end of September 2006.

Wiki Raja has been editing since the end of September 2006.

Using Wiki Raja as a sock puppet/reincarnation, the user editing from 68.108.208.158 has managed to avoid serving a single day of his 3 month block. SiflOlly 11:50, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shervink

  • Code letter: E

There is evidence for sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry by the above users, and a CU would be useful to remove any doubts. Please fore give me I don't know how to report this properly. The following diffs show a suspected use of sockpuppets to violate the 3RR rule: [52] [53] [54] [55]

Arteban1 03:06, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Comment: I would like to note that this accusation is baseless. The accuser (Arteban1) is a proven sockpuppet himself and has been blocked for this reason, as had been a previous puppet (Faranbazu) of the same puppet master (Artaxerex).
Moreover, two of the provided diffs are made by an editor who is not even present on the above list (Mehrshad123). Shervink 09:22, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] El Chulito

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by SameBatTime (talkcontribs) 18:16, 23 March 2007 (UTC).

  • Case letter: D

All accounts set up in same manner and activity follows exact same pattern - then the accounts are left dormant until "needed" in a AfD !vote or other RfC situation etc they appear again with a lot of editing especially on anti-Irish republican issues and then go dormant again.

  • User:El chulito, Created the account 17:55, 26 November 2006, his first edit was to create a user page with an assorted number of user boxes, all alined to the right and never edits his user page again. He then makes 38 edits in a two hour period on US biographies such as [56], [57], [58], [59]. Then the account goes dormant for two months with no edits and reappears 22:55, 20 January 2007 the following day he makes his first edit on a page regarding Irish republicanism here at the Fergal O'Hanlon page. From then on he makes various edits against myself on AfD's, reverts my work and must importantly makes this edit to the Kieran Flemming page where he removes the Irish language name of Kieran and the Irish word for Volnteer - Óglach. And also accuses me on attacking him on talk page note the capital letters. Then !votes on a number of Irish AfD's [60], [61], [62], [63]. And that day (8th Feb) he stops editing and hasnt edited since.

He also used these IP's which I picked up when he sometimes signed over an edit he made when he wasnt signed in -

  • User:216.194.0.99
  • User:65.88.88.214
  • User:216.194.3.132 - these IP's will prove important as he has used computers from the same system again in his new accounts.

He edits for one day only on a number of pages mostly bios such as [64], [65], [66]. Then the account goes dormant but again reappears 11:43, 1 March 2007 and has been attacking me since them despite the fact I have never come across him before and he made this trademark edit to the Kieran Flemming which he made two days ago. He made this edit which he left an IP almost identical to the above IP's here.

  • User:Conrad Falk, Started 10 Sept 06 makes one days editing then goes dormant and then reappears 9 Feb 07 - again identicial set up procedure to his other accounts.

He states he is Polish living in NYC and going to a NYC uni which ties in with the IP's above. First edits his user page with info boxes and alighed to the right, only once ever edits this page and then some Polish pages then nobility such as Isabel Maria Hamilton-Gordon, Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair Stewart Gore-Browne Dame Diana Keppel Countess of Albemarle and then moves on to a number of pages on Irish republicanism including AfD's here, here, [67], [68] - please note that some these AfD's where not formed correctly and could not be found on the daily register but El chulito, Inthegloaming and Conrad Falk all voted on them.

  • User:Inthegloaming, registered 28 August and edited for a day then reappers six months later soley for AfD's that infact where not even registered on the daily AfD digest. See his short history here.
  • User:Jill Teed, again same set up in terms of the account, same edit profile and turned up on the same AfD's. Additonally used the Americanise spelling of words on these pages like the other accounts
Please note I have posted additional information about this on ANI recently, details are here. One Night In Hackney303

[edit] LegoAxiom1007

  • Code letter:G

User is pretending to be a newbie and is pretending to be "learning" how to use Wikipedia, and is vandalizing Wikipedia and getting away with it in the process. Experienced editors "excuse" this user as a newbie (see Wikipedia:Community_sanction_noticeboard#Proposal_to_ban_User:LegoAxiom1007) although at least one other person agrees this user is not a newbie User_talk:Nardman1#User:LegoAxiom1007. Nardman1 02:10, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Request checkuser to see if this is a sock of a known user. Nardman1 02:13, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Checkuser is not for fishing. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 03:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
It is perhaps too late but I would endorse reconsideration of this request. The user in question is causing substantial disruption and needs to be dealt with very differently if he is making newbie mistakes, albeit in a persistent and varied fashion, versus deliberately trolling us. If his infractions do not warrant revelation of who the primary account, if any, is, it would be helpful to at least know whether other registered accounts are associated with this one. Newyorkbrad 19:11, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rugby 666

  • Code letter: F

Rugby 666 was blocked for one months (then two months, now indefinitely) for abusive sockpuppeteering (see Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Ehinger222). The present socks are simply extensions of an enormous sockfarm dating right back to user:licinius/user:NSWelshman etc...

Reddoll17 (talk contribs), Signor12345 (talk contribs), Fifa1998 (talk contribs), Wacko Jacko2 (talk contribs), Redneckyank (talk contribs) all tucked into some edit warring with tancred (talk contribs), in particular over Marconi Stadium, reminiscent of edit wars started by 147.10.112.157 (talk contribs).

144.132.221.157 (talk contribs logs block user block log checkuser) - almost certainly. even calling tancred (talk) a troll (a habit of other socks of rugby 666 (talk contribs) in edit summaries. even questioned the legitimacy of bans imposed by essjay.

Ehinger222 (talk contribs logs block user block log checkuser) - this is the big papa, this one's been going for ages and ages, spawning new puppets and puppeteer accounts. See the belowmentioned link to RFCU. past CU processes haven't been able to check him as activity was too old, but has been active recently. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dibo (talkcontribs).

Additional information needed Please include a diff of the discussion that resulted in the ban or block. Thanks! Greeves (talk contribs) 23:41, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
There's continued activity here as can seen:
  • In the article on Footy blindly reverting an edit that actually tried to find a bit of wiggle room between two more extreme positions.
  • In the article on Robert Brasillach repeatedly inserting a bit of text that is neither especially relevant nor supported by any verifiable source
  • repeatedly removing a disambiguating term, in order to keep the word 'football' in reference to rugby league.
  • edit warring over the page Australian National Football Team
petty edits to a number of pages. Latest is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2007_Australian_football_code_crowds&diff=116979406&oldid=116782761

This user has had over 12 months of warnings, currently evades bans by editing with IP's, always pushes the same POV rubbish. If Wikipedia is serious about stamping out this problem his/her ISP needs to be contacted, or at the very least, the IP range given a serious ban. He/she has been warned in the past, has been banned, how long is this going to be allowed to contine for? Personally I am sick of logging in twice a day, just to remove rubbish edits! I'm sure others feel the same.Tancred 09:49, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Some more comments

Both these IP's are in the same CIDR block. They are both controlled by Telstra - an Australian ISP. Editors that use these IP's have been pushing a POV for over 12 months here. These edits all take the same form. The editor picks 1-2 words each week, edits for his POV and then spends a week or so reverting despite what other editors suggest. How do I know they are the same person? A number of things. The constant refusal to sign any comments is one key. User talk:Rugby_666 was finally banned. That case can be looked at here:
‎Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Ehinger222
‎Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-27 Alan Oakley
‎Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Ehinger222 (2nd)
‎Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Ehinger222
‎Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Rugby 666

The Rubgy League POV pushing stopped for a short time but quickly started up again. Some examples: User 147.10.112.157 (A known Ehinger222 IP) made this edit [69] about Marconi Stadium. A week later the plans for a new stadium development were called off and the article updated. Then 5 new accounts were created, just to revert back to the now incorrect edit:

Reddoll17 (talk • contribspage movesblock userblock log) Signor12345 (talk • contribspage movesblock userblock log) Fifa1998 (talk • contribspage movesblock userblock log) Wacko Jacko2 (talk • contribspage movesblock userblock log) Redneckyank (talk • contribspage movesblock userblock log).

After this the user has given up with registering new usernames and just uses IP's. His/Her latest series of edits are nothing more than tweaking Wikipedia for POVness. [70], [71], [72]. not to mention the endless POV stuff here [73].

here [74], both 144.132.217.29 (talk contribs count) 144.132.221.157 (talk contribs count) revert the page back to edits made by Rugby666, one of the banned usernames.

Given this has been going on for for many months, something really needs to be done. I would call for at least raising this ongoing wikipedia attack with the ISP, and blocking the IP range. Tancred 12:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

The blocks previously followed from the discussion quoted here and the previous RFCU cases archived below on this page.

Neither of those clearly mentions a ban, however. I'm going to break neutrality and should recuse myself from further clerking as relates to this case, but given the prior checks, numerous blocks, repeated sockpuppetry, and assorted abuse warranting month-long rangeblocks, couldn't this be submitted under letter G? – Luna Santin (talk) 18:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Code letter: E.

During a revert war dealing with whether or not Daniel Brandt should be able to post comments about his own biography on the talk page of said article, a new user popped out of nowhere to delete the comment twice [76] [77] when DennyColt (the user most vigorously opposion the idea of DB posting there) had used up his 3 reversions [78][79][80]. Given the extreme sensitivity of the article in question, the use of sockpuppets in such a case would be extremely inappropriate and possible disruptive to Wikipedia. [edit] Kzq9599

Kzq9599 (talk contribs) seeks to remove WP:RS from Heather Wilson. The request is rebuffed by the community. Ten hours or so later, WPBio (talk contribs) becomes a new user and uses his/her first edit to create a user page and second edit to support Kzq9599 [84] and modify wikipedia policy [85] and remove entire criticism pages [86].

What makes this troubling is Kzq9599 accused a long time editor of "beginning to suspect that you're a paid political operative from the Patricia Madrid campaign."[87] Self projection? Maybe, but:

Also check NeilinOz1 (talk contribs) who got involved arguing the same line as the other two.[88] As in this post he wrote "I'm from Australia, so I have little interest in American politics"[89] but in another post wrote "I'm in Washington DC, here for the big stop the war rally."[90] Thus, obviously he is wrong in one of those accounts to be active in a US protest as an Australian means you do care about US politics. (Note: His IP was blocked before reason given on user's talk page: "Checkuser block.")

Is this part of a political attempt, as Kzq9599 suggested, to mess with wikipedia? A Washington DC IP getting blocked at a protest, but doesn't care about politics? The above claims seem strange and I thought of this. Arbustoo 22:41, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Artaxerex

  • Code letter: F

The user Arteban1 has joined the discussion on Talk:Mohammad Reza Pahlavi right after User Artaxerex (and his sockpuppet Faranbazu) were banned for sockpuppetry and violation of 3RR on this page, supporting the arguments presented by Faranbazu. Arteban1 has also immediately filed (albeit on an incorrect page) a request for checkuser directed at all those opposing the arguments of Artaxerex/Faranbazu, presenting practically no evidence for his claim. It therefore seems likely that Arteban1 is just another sockpuppet introduced to evade the ban on Artaxerex. It would be good if this could be checked.

Link to previous discussion and decision on the ban: [96].

Link to Arteban1's edit in support of the sockpuppets and accusation of sockpuppetry directed at many editors opposing his opinion: [97][98].

Thanks. Shervink 08:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Dear admins, I am sure many of you are interested in providing good and balanced articles on wikippedia. Please look at Faranbazu's contribution on Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's discussion page. I hope you agree with me that he has provided a large number of references for his balancing arguments. Unfortunately, a group of Persian editors from belogs places like Iran Chamber have blocked or reverted all his edits and through a coordinated efforts have caused him to be blocked. Is it not the case that in wikipedia one has assume good faith? Is it not the case that in wikipedia a criterion is verifiability? Is it not the case that in Wikipedia another criterion is NPOV?

Why then these editors are allowed to stop any efforts to provide some verifiable facts about Reza Shah's sympathy with Nazis? A large number of respectable Western historical sources (if not all) agree that it was because of these sympathies that allied forces removed him from power. The Persian editors say that this is "allied propaganda"!! (please see the discussion page on Reza Shah). They want to stop any discussions on how the two Pahlavi shahs destroyed the constitutional democracy and created the today's political misery in Iran.

It is possible that again some young and innocent editor who does not understand these issues block me, as they blocked Faranbazu, and inadvertently help this group of editors to promote their agenda. But there is also a chance that some editor decide to investigate this issue, and this why I am here to plea this case. There have been some positive intervention in the past by editors like Scott Wilson, and Melca that had resulted in some NPOV voice in those articles. But apparantly the Persian editors have decided to rewrite everything back to their POV. I appeal to you to stop this. There are many students that are using Wikipedia as their source. It would be wrong to allow a lopesided view to prevaile. Please check the contribution of Shervink, Mehrshad123, SG_talk, Azalea-pomp, Jahangard, Behnam, Khorshid, and some other Persians who want to recreate a copy of their IranChamber belogs on Reza Shah (please read the discussion about title of "Great" in the discussion page of Reza Shah). [edit] Kermanshahi

  • Code letter: G

This whole mess came to light when Ayatollah Rhobijnie started Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kermanshahi. Mrlob and Kashwialariski then soon voiced their support a full two days before the RFA was publicly listed by 84.87.138.105. After Chrislk02 (talk contribs) struck out their votes as sockpuppets, Ayatollah and Kashwialariski both attempt to tamper with that page. Chrislk02 then blocks Ayatollah Rhobijnie and Kashwialariski which then triggers an autoblock on Mrlob. Subsequently, I've indefinitely blocked all the above accounts as sockpuppets, while Kermanshahi himself has been issued with a 1 month block. All the above users and ip address have frequently edited each others userpages and handing each other barnstars. Judging from the articles edited, I can safely say that Ayatollah, Kashwialariski and Mrlob (oldest account) are the same user. However, the link between Kermanshahi and Mrlob is a bit weaker if we ignore the RFA voting, and the strongest evidence is that Mrlob did appear twice only to support Kermanshahi's Iranian figures at Talk:List of countries by number of active troops and Talk:List of countries by number of active troops despite never having edited those articles. So could a CheckUser please determine if Kermanshahi is also Mrlob. Thanks --  Netsnipe  ►  13:11, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

For the record, I did not strike the votes as sock puppets, it was User:Michaelas10 with this edit. I think a checkuser here is a good idea however, and believe that Kermanshahi probably does not have sock puppets, however the other disruptive parties may have been close friends of family members. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 14:18, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Results as follows:

Confirmed that Ayatollah Rhobijnie = Mrlob = Kashwialariski = 84.87.138.105
Likely that Kermanshahi is the same as above set. Close geographically while not the same IP, which means likely to be either a work/school IP, or a meatpuppet.
Likely that El Alamajin is the same as the above (for the same reason).

[edit] Requests for IP check

  • Vandal and attack accounts may be listed here for the purpose identifying and blocking the underlying IP address or open proxy. Requests to confirm sockpuppets of known users should be listed in the sockpuppet section above.
  • If you already know the IP address of the suspected open proxy, list it at Wikipedia:Open Proxies instead.
  • Use === Subsections ===, do not create subpages.
  • List user names using the {{checkuser|username}} template. Add new reports to the top of the section.
  • Requests may be acted on or declined according to the discretion of the checkuser admins. Responses will be noted here.
  • Answered requests will be moved to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check/Archive for 7 days, after which they will be deleted. No separate archive (other than the page history) will be maintained.

[edit] Hinomaru

The user Hinomaru has constantly been creating sock puppet accounts since October 2006 to continue vandalise Wikipedia. There are currently 111 socks:

    • Code letter: A

I've been chasing after his socks since a month or so and have observed his strongly malicious technique: he creates a bunch of sock accounts, and begins using them only a few weeks after. His vandalism concerns mainly Asian non-Japanese related article. It consists in deleting a fragment of sentence in the articles while hiding the entire page's contents in comment tags, and putting a picture of the Japanese flag (hinomaru) at the top instead. This is especially malicious because if people don't undo the edit correctly (i.e. if they just remove the picture and the comment tag instead of reverting), there would still be a fragment of sentence missing in the middle of the article.

When his vandalism is noticed and his accounts blocked, he doesn't lose any time because he always has a few sock accounts created weeks before: he just continues to vandalise with these sock accounts while his others are being blocked.

This is the same pattern since (at least) October 2006; Hinomaru has created 111 socks and shows no sign of getting tired. Something has to be done, please! Kariteh 14:35, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Burnsvillemike

The story starts here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mike_Satter where three (identical) deleted articles on Mike Satter were recreated. This disclosed a web of socks - see the text. The theme has been the injection of Satter into a wide range of law enforcement articles, replacement of images with ones of Satter, creation and recreation of copyright images (some of which have been hanging around on C:CSD for a long time awaiting deletion). Burnsvillemike (talk contribs) has been blocked for a week here and most of the socks on that page were banned indefinitely. User:Seraphimblade is doing a great job. However, as you will see from User talk:Seraphimblade#User:Burnsvillemike the socks are multiplying faster than I can track them down. I think that some decisive action is needed on the IP(s} being used. Bridgeplayer 02:36, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] However whatever

User However whatever (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) is being very aggressive and miltant on BLP related issues on William Oefelein. To the point that others are routinely reverting him, and he is endless edit warring over the inclusion of specific words... he was also 3rr blocked, and has another 3rr report pending at this moment, on the heels of the last. As seen in his entire history here, he is a SPA for this one article. Similar matching edits were done weeks ago by Banana Republic (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log), as seen here and here and here. Baba gump (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) is the same again--matching edits, as seen in the full history here, and all three seem to have the identical vindictive bent towards Gwen Gale (talk contribs) who has religiously tried to keep the lurid mess that is the Lisa Nowak and Oefelein story... compliant with common sense and our BLP rules. the user Baba gump does the same sorts of edits. I believe all three are one and the same. they push the same agenda at the Nowak/Oefelein articles, and all are ready to throw verbal punches at anyone that counters them in the same sort of language. Thanks, - Denny 04:18, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

All I can meaningfully add to that is he uses the same distinctive double dash (--) before all three user sigs. Gwen Gale 04:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree that they seem to be the same user. Although to be fair about the dashes, that is what you get when you click on the signature button in the editor.--HarryHenryGebel 05:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Eternal Pinkish

Hoping I could get some help on this one. This particular troll has been a very persistent problem, for over a month or more -- issuing death threats and harassing users. Tried mass protection, tried blocking. Have already rangeblocked BT-AOL's 81.145.x.x addresses as a bit of a last ditch effort (not quite a /16, but looks like one at first glance). ISP hasn't yet been responsive to abuse reports. This one cropped up, today -- are they working out of the 81.145.x.xs range, still? Or some other address? If so, any sleepers to worry about? Supporting diffs: [129] [130] [131] [132] [133] [134] (and plenty more if you need 'em). Thanks in advance for any support you may be able to provide. – Luna Santin (talk) 01:38, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Very strange edit for a first-time edit. Likely sockpuppet or meatpuppet of Terminator III who has a host of other sockpuppets. It might be difficult to tell, but let's see.. --Hamsacharya dan 23:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Clerk note: The account, Terminator III (talk contribs logs block user block log checkuser) made its most recent edit on 24 Jan 2007, which is too old to check.[135] --Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 00:02, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Can you try these two accounts just added? Hamsacharya duh and Akal Purakh. Thanks. --Hamsacharya dan 00:34, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Clerk note: Hamsacharya duh's last edit was even earlier, (Jan 19). Akal Purakh edited most recently on Jan 30, which is still too far back. (Anything before Feb 10 or so is too old) Note further, that CheckUser works from the recent changes table in the databasem, which (as a general guide) only goes back 30 days. Mike Rosoft 09:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC) From my talk page:

84.169.195.10 (talk contribs WHOIS block user block log checkip) has recently been blocked for some similar vandalism (putting a picture of a monkey or gorilla in pages related to African Americans). Not sure if it's a sock, an imitator, or a coincidence. Natalie 01:56, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adishankaracharya

This is a motion for reconsideration. Users' agenda are identical as per 1, 2, 3. If it is the same person then IP should be blocked to avoid registration of more user names. Thank you! Armando Barrera 00:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 512theking

Self-confessed vandal socks. Harassing JohnnyAlbert10. --Slowking Man 01:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Comment: The situation seems to be a bit more complex; see my Talk page. --Slowking Man 02:54, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Paradocks

Obvious vandal socks, admitted at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Paradocks2 (see the deleted revisions). --Slowking Man 00:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Northwich Victoria F.C. vandal

Hi guys,

Could someone please identify the underlying network our vandal puppeteer is operating from? He's been hitting the article on a daily basis with a new sock every day since March 13. I believe he operates in the 80.47.0.0/16 range -- probably a dial-up range belonging to Tiscali. --  Netsnipe  ►  14:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-compliant requests

Requests that do not follow the instructions at the top of the page will be moved here. Common reasons for noncompliance include:

  • Did not cite a code letter.
  • Cited more than one code letter.
  • Did not cite any supporting diffs if the code letter requires diffs.
  • Included IP addresses.

The specific deficiencies may be noted with Additional information needed. Cases which are corrected may be moved back to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Pending. Cases which are not corrected will be deleted after 3 days. If you have questions, ask for assistance at Wikipedia talk:Requests for checkuser/Non-compliant.

Please note that meeting these three criteria does not ensure that your check will be run. The checkusers retain final discretion over all cases.
