[edit] Guidelines

In general, this page should be used primarily to solicit outside feedback regarding mergers (particularly those of a controversial nature), or assistance with difficult or complicated mergers. Brief replies may be posted here, but lengthy discussions should be confined to the talk pages of the articles involved. After articles are merged (or a consensus that the articles should not be merged is reached), please remove them from the list below.

[edit] Current listings

Please list new proposals at the top of this month's section. Sign each listing or comment by typing: ~~~~

[edit] March 2007

  • Merge Motown music into Motown Sound. The topics are nearly identical. The Motown Sound article is older and probably better written, plus "Motown sound" is a fairly well-known description. Vandelay 21:50, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Melting temperature into DNA melting. I feel the name "melting temperature" is too vague to justify something specific to DNA, and it can easily be a section within the DNA melting page.-Madeleine 01:23, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Overselling and Overbooking. Overselling seems the more general term, but overbooking is the more complete article. 75.36.159.93 06:33, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Adult Kickball with Kickball. There's no reason why this shouldn't be included in a separate section of the kickball page, as the games are played the same way for kids as they are for adults. Amnewsboy 17:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Airsplat and MilSim into Airsoft. Airsplat is airsoft, but someone thought they were different. MilSim also applies to airsoft, and would fit well into the article.65.197.192.130 21:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge TV Junkyard into Cathode ray tube - it doesn't contain any information that isn't in the Cathode ray tube article, and I can't find any indications that a "TV Junkyard" is a specific type of facility. Mary quite contrary 17:02, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  • CD80 and CD86 into B7 (protein) - both are subtypes of the B7 protein, could deserve seperate articles, community feedback would be appreciated xC | 18:06, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Created kind into Baraminology. There's a huge amount of overlap in the subjects - one's a concept and the other's the attempts to justify it. However, while this direction of merger might make it easier to deal with some NPOV and referencing issues in the Created kind article, it might be appropriate to end it at Created kind, as the more general term. Adam Cuerden talk 19:35, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

SteveBaker 03:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] February 2007

Further merge Female sexual arousal disorder into Sexual arousal disorder xCentaur | 20:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Languedoc wine into Languedoc-Roussillon. The small article on Languedoc wine could easily be integrated. Additionally, the region of France is "Languedoc-Roussillon" and the wines from the two areas ("Languedoc" and "Roussillon") don't need separate mentions. This is reflected by the consensus of the wine project and France project which identify the region as the Languedoc-Roussillon. mroconnell 11:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge African tribal masks into Mask. The article on masks could easily handle a devoted section to African masks with the minute amount of information on that page. A separate article on "African" masks seems too vague, there are too many styles of masks, and way too many cultures creating them to have them grouped together in one article. - HammerHeadHuman 04:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge yo, Blair to yo. We definitely don't need a whole article about one single spoken greeting just because it was Bush who said it. JIP | Talk 08:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] January 2007

  • Merge all the sociological time line articles - which are mostly devoid of any content - listed in Timeline of sociology to that page. Roberdin 00:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Lester James Peries and Lester James Peiris - two articles on the same person. Verify spelling. AFAIK the second one is the correct one, in spite of Google result numbers (17,000 vs. 172). Krankman 14:23, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Perezhilton.com into Perez Hilton. Redirect first link to second. Same information, the person and his blog do not merit two seperate entries.
  • Merge Erb-Duchenne palsy with Erb's palsy. They are the same. It will be better to name the final article 'Erb's palsy' as this term is more frequently used. Alchemystical 18:19, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Newark Arena to Prudential Center. Newark Arena has been renamed Prudential Center. Prudential Center previously was redirected to Prudential Tower. This request is to get the edit history of the Newark Arena article under the Prudential Center name. Milchama 14:45, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Internet Society Bulgaria to Internet Society - Bulgaria. The organization apparently has two pages here on Wikipedia. The one without the '-' was cited for copy edit and is not even the correct title of the group, as evidenced all over their homepage [1]. The category for Communications in Bulgaria should also be added to the Internet Society - Bulgaria's page. Crumnut 02:47, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge Carousel In The Country into Robert B. Sherman. See Talk:Carousel In The Country for discussion. Please note that several very similar articles about other paintings by this person were subject to mandatory merge orders as per a recent afd discussion[2]. Please also see that discussion. Unfortunately I missed this particular painting out in the original afd nomination. Putting this notice here to generate consensus for the merge of the Carousel painting (one editor is opposing the Carousel merge despite the recent afd result) Bwithh 23:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] December 2006

  • Merge Brig into Brigantine. The fact that Brig and Brigantine are not synonymous does not justify a separate page for Brig if it is only a stub. Unless there is significant content that clearly delineates one type of ship from another, not just a slight modification of the masts and ship construction, then the articles belong together, not separately. Gohiking 19:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] November 2006

  • Merge Genoism into Gattaca because genoism is a term used in the movie and has not gained significant usage outside of the film. 71.112.234.25 10:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Merge Franked mail into Franking. The former is more US specific than the latter, but there is interesting history in the former. Rpresser 15:38, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] October 2006

  • Merge Grappenhall and Thelwall. They are a single parish and ward, with population and census statistics available only for the two villages together. See discussion for more. Robnpov 19:34, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Merge Spriting into Pixel Art. Most things needed to be added to the Spriting article are already in Pixel art. Maybe give spriting a section in Pixel Art? 71.131.226.160 04:22, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Merge makkara to sausage. Makkara (a Finnish word meaning simply "sausage") is really not that different from common-or-garden sausages. Most Finns don't even acknowledge any special quality which would distinguish between makkara and other kinds of sausages. JIP | Talk 17:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Merge Portal:Forums and Portal:Internet Forums. They both cover the same territory, and it is clear one is redundant. Personally, I see the latter as having the better, or at least less ambiguous, name. Badbilltucker 14:26, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Ticonderoga class aircraft carrier into Essex class aircraft carrier. The building of both type overlaps. The Essex class usually describes both the short-hull (Essex) and long-hull (Ticonderoga) variants, with little difference between the two othet than length. As such, there is consideralble overlap between the two articles, and neither article is that long. Post war, some of both types underwent the same types of modifications (such as receiving angled deck), while others of both types remained unmodified. Most historical assessments deal with the entire history of both types together. Discuss at Talk:Essex class aircraft carrier. -BillCJ 05:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Ain't it Funny (Murder Remix) into Ain't It Funny. The former article is about a specific version of song in the latter article. I do not think the information in each article is substantial enough to justify them being split up, furthermore people looking for information on the song might be confused by there being (at least) two articles about it. Chsf 20:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Nasadiya Sukta into Bharat Ek Khoj. The former presents absolutely no information that is not in the former, and looks rather unprofessional as well. 134.84.33.72 20:28, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Hvar and History of Hvar Island. This latter does a better job of presenting some aspects already mentioned in the former. Hald-1-contrib 17:30, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Milk fetishism and Erotic Lactation. This appears to be an attempt to move selected contents from the older article to a new one. May need help to prevent a dispute. Robotman1974 21:10, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Propose to merge Electromagnetic therapy into Magnetic therapy. This merge was performed once before, but was reverted and is currently disputed on Talk:Magnet therapy. Regardless of the merit of electromagnetic therapy vs. magnetic therapy, they are closely related and do not warrant separate articles. johnpseudo 19:10, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
    • It would be nice to merge but currently I see some disputes with confussing certain POVs. On one hand their appears to be some strong skepticism against magnet therapy but on the other hand electromagnetic therapy is used by physiotherapy and some cancer treatment. I think it would be wise to keep them seperate for these reasons nevertheless suggestions to try and resolve this problem would be appreciated. On the other hand, (just off the top of my head), I think I remember someting saying that magnet therapy and electromagnetic therapy is about the same thing. But the quote went like this "Electromagnetic therapy, also known as electromagnetism, bioelectricity, magnetobiology, magnetic field therapy and magnetic healing, applies electromagnetic energy to the body to treat disease." Unfortunatelly I don't see any sourced relationship between both. Putting all this wiki rule stuff asside... and the possibility to confuse what appears to be two different methodes of delivering an electrogmatic field. I admit it would be nice to have something comprehensive yet non-conflicting that could encopass all of these. --CyclePat 00:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
    • This is a terrible merge since it puts the more general article as a section in the less general article. There has been plenty of opposition on the talk page. Don't do it. ObsidianOrder 19:02, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
    • P.S. The merge proposal above says Magnetic therapy but that is just a redirect to Magnet therapy. Also the merge I undid was to Magnet therapy. The two are not the same: "magnet" means just permanent magnets (typically worn close to the body for extended periods), "magnetic" would encompass any EM field, however produced, the main active component of which is magnetic. ObsidianOrder 20:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
      • I second that proposition makes sense. Plus we could put topography EMF scanning. --CyclePat 22:38, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] September 2006

  • Assisted living and Retirement home. I don't think there's much difference between the two. --CliffC 12:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Not entirely sure, but I vaguely suspect that many people in assisted living communities would be quite irate and offended to hear they were living in a retirement home. It may be true that in practise that the precise place where you draw the line between which is which may be difficult to draw; nevertheless, the question of what title to put the merged article should prove to be quite thorny. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. 19:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
  • hammered dulcimer and psaltery... in the first page's discussion there are propositions for merge with dulcimer or with cymbalum, that are completely different instruments... while "psaltery" is exactly the same thing (notice that in many languages they have the same name, and in English the choice between the words "psaltery" and "hammered dulcimer" usually depends only from the geographic location or from use - picking strings or hitting with small hammers). Toobaz
  • A Limnological catastrophe & limnic eruption merger is recommended. They both overlap rather extensively—the translation of the Russian article has the better structure and the English article has the clearer text. Looking for an author to combine. Williamborg (Bill) 04:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Ordination and Holy Orders. There is total overlap of the subject matter, but it is a little sensitive as most protestant denominations don't have a concept of Holy Orders. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 17:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
  • David Copperfield (character) and David Copperfield (novel). David Copperfield (character) refers to the main character of David Copperfield (novel). As the main character is fictional and the book acts as a biography, any information that is relevant to the main character is relevant to the book. As the article stands now, it is simply a rehash of the plot that already exists in the novel article.
  • Merge John Prescott: Contentious events into John Prescott. Material was recently removed on the grounds of excessive article size (although even with the expunged material, the overall article length was around ~34 kb; cf, for example, Tony Blair, at ~>80 kb). Consensus was not established, and a recent AfD on John Prescott: Contentious events (where 'Merge and redirect' was not accepted as an option) provided significant support for a merge. The current situation poses significant POV problems for both articles. Badgerpatrol 00:10, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August 2006

Update - Schottenklöster has been merged. Merge tags put up on other two. xCentaur | 20:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] July 2006

  • Merge Saffuriya with Tzippori/Sepphoris. These are the Arabic, Hebrew and Greek names of the same site, despite attempts by the authors of the Tzippori page to claim otherwise. Please see: 1) discussion between Kathleen Christison (theology expert) and Benny Morris (Israeli historian)at [4], and this brief from archaeologist Leroy Waterman in 1931[5]. Tiamut 08:39, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] June 2006

  • Merge Wildcats v2 into Wildcats (comics). The main entry covers volumes one through three of the series; there's no reason for volume two to get an article to itself. Gabriel Roth 07:39, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Merge Environmental design into Sustainable design, writing a new article for the former. Currently, the former is described as synonymous with the latter, which is actually a neologism (albeit a widespread one). An entirely different normantive meaning (also widespread) for "Environmental design" already exists, which is not given any coverage in its current article.Skybum 18:04, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] April 2006

  • Voice organ and Phonation. I don't know which way to merge - the latter is the better article but the former is a more familiar term. -- Djbb2 19:31, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Having read Phonation, I think they should either be left seperate or phonation merged into voice organ, as the second includes the first. I'm no expert, though...Djbb2 19:37, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community-supported merger proposals

Please shift the merge proposal from above to the list below once there is consensus to merge the article(s).

  • Merge History of anarchism with Anarchism/historical and Origins of anarchism; this merge is likely to be controversial, in part because the NPOV is questioned on at least one of the articles. All three of the articles seem to address the same topic from different perspectives but with significant duplication of effort. --Vampyrecat 17:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merger Proposals without consensus

  • Merge MSN Messenger to Windows Live Messenger. - both Microsoft products, arguably the same product line. Controversial as talk page and article history indicates. Greater community feedback is appreciated. Luke! 21:40, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Depersonalization disorder into Depersonalization—they both describe the same disorder in slighly different ways. They could possibly be made more separate, but each has so little content that I'm in favor of merging them. --Tifego 04:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Shouldn't all the lawsuits on the Lowell page be on the San Francisco Unified School District page instead, since they're NAACP v. San Francisco Unified School District, Ho v. San Francisco Unified School District, and the Consent Decree applies to ALL schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, not just Lowell? --69.106.248.138 18:09, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

List already exists List_of_Westfield_Group_shopping_centres_in_Australia Is merger rqd? The pages are quite large, notable or not, and merging them together would make the resultant page huge.xCentaur |  talk  12:18, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
