From the Balkan region, Romania is a country in southeastern Europe. Its capital is Bucharest. It is 238.391 km² and has 23 million inhabitants.
The Romanian people speak the Romanian language, which is like French, Italian, and Spanish and comes from Latin.
The country has a big Hungarian population.
The neighbours of Romania are Bulgaria, Yugoslavia , Hungary, Ukraine and Moldova. The country is divided in 41 counties and one municipality, around Bucharest.
Bucharest, the capital of Romania is the biggest city with 2,3 million inhabitants.
Romania has been part of the European Union since January 1st, 2007.
